Monotype Rising Sets
:sv/ogerpon wellspring:
:sv/iron moth:
:sv/wo-chien:

Welcome to the eleventh edition of the Monotype Rising Sets that aims to unveil the future of Monotype. You have been using an unknown set for a long time or have just thought about a new way of using a Pokémon? Come sharing your findings with the community!

This event will be run in the form of a contest. You will have 2 weeks to submit ONE set of your choosing for whichever Pokémon, before a poll is launched in the Monotype room to determine the winning set.

Rules:
  • Only one post per person is allowed.
  • Both the Pokémon and the set you want to feature are up to you.
  • A set is valid if and only if it does not exist in the Monotype SV SmogDex.
  • Item/Move-swap sets are not allowed, unless they change fundamentally the way the Pokémon is used.
  • You may import your set from your PS! teambuilder or write it down.
  • Your set proposition must include the following elements: set, description, potential teammates, and either replays or damage calculations.
  • Replays and damage calculations must showcase the set's uniqueness, so choose them wisely.
  • Please convey the uniqueness of your set while avoiding emphatic language ("It's the greatest set ever!")
  • Do not react to other submitted sets in your post, focus on yours.
Hereunder you will find the accepted format for submissions as well as an example of accepted and rejected sets.

Name of the set + Pokémon name + (Type) (ex: "Choice Specs Dragapult (Dragon)")

(you may import the set directly from your PS! teambuilder)

Pokemon @ Item
Ability:
EVs:
x Nature
- move 1
- move 2
- move 3
- move 4

Set Description

Describe what your set is achieving, which niche does it fill? Why is it interesting in the current metagame?

Teammates

Describe who would be the ideal teammates to surround it with which set.

Replays OR Damage calculations (doing both is accepted)

1. xxx
2. xxx
3. xxx

They should be commented and help you to make your point.

Barraskewda @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Flip Turn
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab

Changing one coverage move by another does not change the way the set is used, it is still Choice Band Barraskewda inside.
Barraskewda @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Muscle Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Flip Turn
- Close Combat
- Psychic Fangs

By swapping Choice Band with HdB or Muscle Band, the way the pokémon is used drastically changes. Now Barraskewda acts as an Offensive Pivot, which comes with its own perks. Changing the moveset is not mandatory, but it does not mean the moveset should be lazily copy/pasted from an existing set. Your moveset should always be backed up with arguments.

Rewards:
  • ^ rank on Monotype room for a month
  • The winning set will be featured in the Monotype room
  • Addition of the set in the SmogDex

If you feel the heart of a builder, come sharing your best craft with the community!

Deadline for set submission is February 22th @ 11:59pm GMT-5

Support Serperior (Grass):
Snek (Serperior) @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Glare
- Leech Seed
- Substitute

Set Description:
It was to my great surprise that while going through the Smogdex, I found out that Serperior had not a single set for Monotype. Well, here is one that utilises what Serperior does best in Monotype in the absence of coverage to make it offensively threatening, namely: being insufferable. Glare is its primary tool, serving as both speed control and an easy way to cripple an enemy. It is particularly nice at enabling slower partners, such as Breloom, Sinistcha or Torterra. Leaf Storm is then Serperior's only actually good offensive option, combined with Contrary. Even Grass resists don't like taking a boosted Leaf Storm. Substitute and Leech Seed are then a good way to chip down the opponent, while providing good healing combined with Leftovers. Substitute also allows you to fish for full paralysis turns to set up another Leaf Storm.

Teammates:
As a support set, this Serperior shines through its partners, namely:
-The ever-present on Grass Scarf Meowscarada, which serves as speed control, utility with Knock Off and U-turn, and a powerful hitter into many problematic matchups with Play Rough and Triple Axel.
-Swords Dance Ogerpon Heartflame, the main weapon against Steel teams, a very powerful breaker in general, and with Glare support, a sweeper unimpeded by opposing Choice Scarves.
-Torterra is the slow partner that benefits most from Glare, as with Shell Smash, Headlong Rush and Heavy Slam, it can secure the win against Poison if Sneasler gets even slightly chipped. It is also very threatening in general once set up. Sash allows it to do said setup more reliably. Breloom would be a good alternative to Torterra here, but Torterra's lower speed and higher reliance on setup means it benefits more from Serperior, and handles more crucial matchups than Breloom does. (Yes, me dropping Breloom, shocking).
-Defensive Brambleghast serves as a hazard remover, spin-blocker, and hazard setter all at once, while Wind Rider boosted Poltergeist+Rapid Spin can be very threatening into Flying if you switch into a wind move.
-Sinistcha also benefits from Glare, this time on the special side. Calm Mind and Strength Sap let it rack up boosts, after which it can sweep with its stabs.
- Alternatively, the slow attacker can be dropped for Amoonguss, which makes for a more defensive team that benefits from Glare by using it to neuter threats to the team’s defences.

Life Orb Special Wallbreaker Swampert
Swampert @ Life Orb
Ability: Damp
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe
Mild Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earth Power
- Earthquake
- Surf / Ice Beam / Sludge Wave

Description
I’m not a huge fan of Archaludon OR Hoodra. However, the Mudkip line are my favorite Pokemon! Usually, Swampert runs a bulky support set, complimented by its great typing of Water/Ground. However, everyone knows the set by this point. Rocks, Knock Off, maybe an EQ or two. This set is to catch them off guard while also taking advantage of Swampert’s decent 85 SpA. Mild Nature is useful due to the lack of physical moves going to be used on Swampert, since most Grass moves (and really any move you’d want to actually hit it anyway) are special, there’s no worry on the Defense side. The EV set is to maximize Special Attack and a little bit of bulk, while also outspeeding minor speed invested Archaludon sets and other base 85’s and under. Stealth Rock for support, while also contributing to the surprise factor. Earth Power to kill Archaludon and other Pokemon that utilize Intimidate. Earthquake to 2HKO the Hoodra set on the Smogon Dex. The last slot depends: Sludge Wave counters all Ogerpon Forms save Cornerstone, Ice Beam to counter Dragonite and Hydreigon, who otherwise are immune to the set, and Surf for a good STAB special move. Damp is to counter any Explosion shenanigans. Archaludon with 52 Speed Investment cannot outspeed Swampert.

Teammates
:Pelipper: sets up rain for the other teammates. Also can create slow U-Turns for Swampert to get an opportunity to get in.
:Barraskewda: CB set greatly improves the physical side. Also benefits from Pelipper due to Swift Swim.
:Samurott-Hisui: adds more hazards to the opposing field, allowing Swampert to get a possible OHKO on Hoodra.
:Toxapex: can be used as a bulky pivot, an Eject Button could allow you to get Swampert in while taking minimal damage on Toxapex due to Regenerator.
:Tentacruel: is your spinner. Benefits Swampert since Swampert is vulnerable to hazards as it isn’t holding Leftovers.
:Urshifu-Rapid-Strike:, with a Scarf set, can act as a speed control set. Surging Strikes does major damage in the rain.
:Ogerpon-Wellspring: can act as a neutral to Electric, in case Swampert is low. Also adds Grass coverage.
:Greninja: acts as a secondary Special Attacker.
:Volcanion: can run Smack Down to counter any potential Skarmory or Corviknight.
Team Comp I will use (no replays yet): Swampert, Ogerpon-W, Toxapex, Inteleon, Greninja, Hamurott. (sorry i keep editing this team!)
Essentially, any water teammate can be combined with Swampert and the team'll still be great.

Replays
(put replays here)

Calcs
252+ SpA Life Orb Swampert Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Archaludon: 447-530 (116.4 - 138%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 Atk Life Orb Swampert Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Goodra-Hisui: 226-268 (62.2 - 73.8%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and 3 layers of Spikes
252+ SpA Life Orb Swampert Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Dragonite: 421-499 (130.3 - 154.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Stealth Rocks break Multiscale.)

252+ SpA Life Orb Swampert Earth Power vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Bisharp: 283-335 (97.2 - 115.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Honorable Mention to Pr1nce0fAllSaiyans. His rising set submission (VIII, if ur wondering) inspired this whole thing.

Psychic Seed Hoopa-U (Psychic)

Hoopa-Unbound @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Magician
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 248 HP / 160 Def / 100 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Expanding Force
- Hyperspace Fury
- Focus Blast

Set Description

Hoopa-Unbound is an amazing mon for psychic teams thanks to its natural special bulk and useful typing. It's nuclear bomba specs and band sets get the limelight, but this psychic seed set brings a special ability to astroblast ghost and other types that dislike being spammed with expanding force. As a mixed attacker, Hoopa-U is really annoying to switch into, and its natural huge offensive stats don't require much investment to be threatening. Once it consumes a psychic seed, its special bulk is amazing. With Magician, it also steals an item after consuming the seed, letting it do things like (1) cripple otherwise annoying mons like Hoodra and Archaludon by stealing their leftovers; (2) nab a damage boosting item to makes its damage even more ludicrous; (3) sometimes grab focus sash from ceruledge while at full hp. This set shines specifically versus hyper offense ghost and dark teams. You can basically solo ghost with this Hoopa set under terrain; also, while Hoopa cant break dark teams very well, it can tank crucial hits to set trick room for its teammates to make progress.

Teammates

Terrain Extender Indeedee is a mandatory teammate with this set. With 8 turns of psychic terrain, Hoopa-U can reliably get its seed procced and click expanding force. Hoopa-U also really needs the priority immunity, as it doesnt love eating strong priority moves like sucker punch, shadow sneak, or first impression. This Hoopa-U set also can struggle to break psychic-resistant or immune pokemon with recovery that can't be killed by Hyperspace Fury like Sableye, Mandibuzz, or Corviknight, so it appreciates teammates like Hatterene and Armarouge to break these. Psychic noise and hazard support from Bronzong or another combination of teammates is also appreciated.

Replay
Here's a replay where Hoopa-U cleans house vs Ghost (yes poltergeist misses hatterene but it didn't matter because hoopa would just come in and end the game)
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2528978269

Fellow Hoopa-U enjoyer Fentropy also showcased this set's power by ripping through Gliscor and its flying teammates

Damage Calcs

Offensive Calcs:
0 Atk Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Dragapult: 408-482 (128.7 - 152%) -- guaranteed OHKO
100+ SpA Hoopa-Unbound Expanding Force (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dragapult in Psychic Terrain: 397-468 (125.2 - 147.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Defensive Calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Dragapult Dragon Darts (2 hits) vs. 248 HP / 160 Def Hoopa-Unbound: 306-362 (84.2 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
100 Atk Dragapult U-turn vs. 248 HP / 160 Def Hoopa-Unbound: 312-368 (85.9 - 101.3%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO (Almost always live from standard hex set, always survive 0 invest uturn from specs)

Offensive Calcs:
0 Atk Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Flutter Mane: 262-309 (104.3 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
100+ SpA Hoopa-Unbound Expanding Force (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Flutter Mane in Psychic Terrain: 241-285 (96 - 113.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

Defensive Calcs:
252 SpA Choice Specs Flutter Mane Moonblast vs. +1 248 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa-Unbound: 254-302 (69.9 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Flutter Mane Shadow Ball vs. +1 248 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa-Unbound: 108-127 (29.7 - 34.9%) -- 13.8% chance to 3HKO

Ohkos everything else on ghost trivially with either expanding force or hyperspace fury + it tanks one hit from anything to reset trick room and continue blasting. It's immune to poltergeist when it first enters thanks to consuming its psychic seed too.

The combo of expanding force + hyperspace breaking protect also blows through things trying to scout or stall with protect.
100+ SpA Hoopa-Unbound Expanding Force (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Alomomola in Psychic Terrain: 357-421 (66.9 - 78.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Alomomola: 195-229 (36.5 - 42.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Fellas, I'm still low on Poison sets, so we're pulling out a complete wildcard today that I'm impressed doesn't have an analysis yet.
Is this cheap? Probably, but we ball.

[SET]
Mamoswine @ Never-Melt Ice
Name: All out attacker (Ground)
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off / Smack Down / Stone Edge

[SET COMMENTS]
If opting for Never-Melt Ice, Mamoswine can become an All Out Attacker making it more capable of handling dealing with types like Dragon and Flying along with checks such as Air Balloon Gholdengo. Icicle Crash handles Flying- and Grass-types such as Gliscor and Sinistcha. Ice Shard picks off faster threats like Latios and Dragapult. Finally, Knock Off can be used to remove problematic held items from switch ins like Eviolite Porygon2. Alternatively Smack Down cripples checks in Skarmory and Moltres enabling them to be dealt with by Earthquake while Stone Edge can generally OHKO Moltres.

Teammates will generally be the exact same as standard CB Mamoswine. Landorus for Gravity support + breaking physical walls such as Avalugg and Great Tusk. Clodsire for its Water immunity, helping to check Greninja and Urshifu-R. Choice Scarf Great Tusk for dealing with faster threats such as Kyurem and Hisuian Samurott.

[Replays] (Two of these were during Gouging, but still shows off what Mamo could do, I'm not digging through severeal alts to find where I used a Ground team for a month of MMLT/MLT last year)
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2184618298

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2164305683
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2164257161

Also for releveant calcs, I guess this:
252+ Atk Mamoswine Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 244+ Def Moltres: 372-440 (96.8 - 114.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO, espessically as you can now Icicle Crash/Ice Shard into Moltres then follow up with this.

Terrain Setter Arboliva (Grass) :arboliva:

Arboliva @ Terrain Extender
Ability: Seed Sower
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Strength Sap
- Leech Seed
- Alluring Voice
- Giga Drain

Description
I noticed Arboliva didn't have any set in Monotype while thinking about which type of spice I could build, so I decided to make one, which has done me good so far. The thought behind it is to support the rest of its team. Leech Seed and Grassy Terrain gives great passive recovery to its allies, while Strength Sap gives it reliable recovery and paired with Alluring Voice, makes Arboliva able to check pretty reliably almost every physical set up sweeper that tries to set up on it. Terrain Extender provides longer terrain for the rest of the team. With this set, you'll be able to set up Grassy Terrain relatively often throughout the battle therefore helping the team with longevity, which Grass struggles with due to it being mediocre defensively.

Teammates

:flapple: : I find Flapple to be a great pick overall specifically with Arboliva, as I haven't tried it without it. Grassy Glide, paired with Choice Band and Hustle makes for an extremely underestimated revenge killer.
:decidueye: : I've had a great time pairing Arboliva with Decidueye so far, its Fighting immunity comes in handy most of the time. It also gets defog which is always appreciated.
:brambleghast: : I haven't tried Brambleghast yet, but theoretically speaking, it does the same job as Decidueye, so there's no reason why it wouldn't be just as great of a teammate, if not a better one than Decidueye.
:torterra: : Grassy Terrain gives Torterra the ability to power through things it normally wouldn't. Paired with Overgrow as the ability, it can be quite difficult to wall.

Resto Chesto Darkrai (Dark)
:sv/Darkrai:

Darkrai @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Bad Dreams
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rest
- Nasty Plot
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam

Set Description

A Bulkyrai with timeless RestoChesto technology to improve its longevity as a sweeper on Dark HO. The 240 Speed EVs are as low as you can go to maximize bulk while maintaining your favorable speed tier and reaching 380 total. This set is capable of completely improbable reverse sweeps when supported in the niche yet powerful Dark Screens archetype, where it can pull off astonishing feats such as living Close Combats from Flamigo (~60%) behind screens and surviving other powerful hits behind screens in order to facilitate enough turns to boost with Nasty Plot and trade for additional members of the enemy team (that usually carry priority and other methods of weak revenge killing such as Choice Scarf Greninja). Ice Beam and Dark Pulse are chosen as specific options to to strengthen the Flying match up, terrifying Corviknight 20% of the time, and potentially sweeping through the entire team. Limited moveset options (not having access to full BoltBeam or Focus Blast can stump you in the aforementioned Flying MU or Dark mirror without Lokix support) sometimes prevent the set from sweeping through entire teams, but I've found this set to be a star member and make Dark screens feel extremely dangerous, especially as this set isn't being respected. It's coverage moves are both capable of stealing games, and in order to safely get it in...

Teammates

Grimmsnarl and Sableye are both equally viable screens setters to support this Darkrai, and both have unique typings which support Dark well. Grimmsnarl offers a secondary form of pivoting to allowed Darkrai to hit the field which can be crucial in endgame scenarios, but Sableye's Fighting immunity and access to recovery make them equally viable. Choice Scarf Meowscarada is essential to pivot and revenge kill anything fast (Flutter Mane) clicking on Darkrai and stumping a setup opportunity. Lokix, Hoopa, H-Samu, Ting Lu, BB Greninja, Bisharp, Roaring Moon, and others are all great teammates to support Darkrai as Hazard Setters, Taunt users, and other Screens abusers.

:Meowscarada:-----------------------------------------------------------Pivot and Revenge-killer
:Grimmsnarl: :Sableye:----------------------------------------------------Screens setter
:Ting-Lu: :Samurott-Hisui:----------------------------------------------------Hazards/Taunt - HSam > SD, Sucker, extra sweeper; Ting-Lu > EQ, Ruination, WW
:Greninja: :Hoopa-Unbound: :Lokix: :Roaring Moon: :Bisharp:-----------------------------Screens Goblins to abuse Light Clay and beat down Rai's checks.

Damage calculations

1. 252 Atk Flamigo Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 16 Def Darkrai through Reflect: 193-228 (56.1 - 66.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
2. 252 Atk Ogerpon-Hearthflame Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 16 Def Darkrai through Reflect: 119-141 (34.5 - 40.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
3. 252+ Atk Choice Band Scizor Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 16 Def Darkrai through Reflect: 231-272 (67.1 - 79%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

I don't want to win but Showl threaten me to post a set
Capture d’écran 2026-02-20 à 00.52.26.png

So here we go

:CHESNAUGHT: Chesnaught aka Chestgoat :Chesnaught: (fighting)

Chesnaught @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Bulletproof
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD or EVs: 248 HP / 116 Def / 144 Spe
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Seed Bomb
- Synthesis
- Knock Off

Description:

Chesnaught is nice physical wall especially for checking Ground- and Water-type for Fighting-type with access to a healing move, Spikes hazard and a utility with Knock Off. Its ability allows to be less threaten by Shadow Ball spam even if Shadow Ball users are special attackers that will hurt it a lot. With Leftovers you optimized recovery and have more time on the field while Rocky Helmet allows you to punish Barraskewda and non-Punching Gloves Urshifu-R. With all those tools, Chesnaught acts as a defensive pivot and a utility Pokemon allowing Fighting-type sweepers to reach some KOs.
The first spread is generally good to be punish Corviknight slow U-Turn with Rock Helmet and incoming pokemon with a Knock Off while second spread allows you to outspeed Adamant Azumarill

Teammates:

:iron hands: allows to have a neutrality to Flying stabs and threatens those mons with Electric STAB and Ice Punch. Being either an Assault Vest user or Swords Dance
:Iron Valiant: pairs well with hazards stack allowing some 0HKO or 2HKO on some mons being either choice scarf, choice specs or expert belt
:Great Tusk: now can be used more offensively and free a slot for Ice Spinner or another coverage
:Gallade: is still a very good Assault Vest user for Fighting-type dealing with most special attacker and being neutral to Psychic-type moves
:urshifu-rapid-strike: deals with flying mons and is an important component of Fighting-type
:sneasler: absorbs toxic spikes and is a good choice scarf user or a unburden late game cleaner

Calcs:
252 Atk Choice Band Barraskewda Liquidation vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught in Rain: 93-111 (24.5 - 29.2%) -- 99.9% chance to 4HKO
252 Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 123-145 (32.4 - 38.2%) -- 97.8% chance to 3HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Excadrill Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 79-93 (20.8 - 24.5%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Excadrill Iron Head vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 127-150 (33.5 - 39.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 288-338 (75.9 - 89.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 Atk Chesnaught Seed Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mamoswine: 218-260 (60.3 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Chesnaught Seed Bomb vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 218-260 (63.7 - 76%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
