When I was a little boy, fiddling with ancient tiers, I had a dream. That dream was to create something big, because I had a goal. And so I created the Ancient Lower Tiers Premiere League 4 years or so ago with that dream and goal in mind. And that was...

I never really thought I'd manage in this tour. I created it and hosted it every year until this year, and then I retired and thought for sure I was done. But then also every person ever on Smogon dot com says they're done at least 12 times before they're done, so maybe I'm not quite there yet.
I'm very proud of the team but I'm also very proud of what this tournament has become over the years. It wouldn't have been renewed if the people didn't keep asking for it again. I think a lot of the people that play these ancient lower tiers really truly greatly appreciate more opportunities to play them in other team tour settings like this. The ADV community loves to play their games, even while having plenty of representation elsewhere. GSC and RBY are definitely less represented in other subforums for their respective lower tiers, but I have noticed over the past few years that this has been changing as well. Back when ALT PL first started, GSC PU was hardly a real tier, and after including it as the flex in season 2 it gained momentum, got into GSC PL, and now finally has a fairly good place in PUCL. Even GSC NU was struggling to get representation back then and now it seems to be one of thee most popular lower tiers on the website (thanks in large part to the goat JensenDale and his million dollar marketing team).
The most remarkable thing, to me, is that all of the lower tier representation issues that I outlined 4 years ago when this tournament started have, for the most part, been resolved on the website. Things like locking out RBY UU from all UU official tours (something that very heavily existed back then) is not a thing anymore, it's in UU Classic and UU (second team tour) every year now for the most part. We even got rid of the "official tiers" designation for the most part, which was further conflating the false idea that some tiers are less deserving of representation than others. People play these tiers, they have fun with them, and it's fucking Pokemon dawg who cares if there's some more RNG in them. We're here for a good time, and we need to let people play the tiers they want. The only correct indicator on whether a tier should or should not be recognized in any specific setting is whether or not the people want to play it. If they do, let them have their fun.
Now for the Wailord of the Flygons, you guys were incredible this season. Great vibes the entire time no matter who was or was not playing.
Accel when I asked you to manage, I wasn't even sure if I wanted to manage myself. But the thought of us doing it together made it more appealing, and it didn't seem like we'd really be able to both manage and play in any other tour anytime soon. I've always wanted to manage a tour with you and honestly, to me, it's no surprise we won it all on our first run at it. You've always been the goat manager and you were one of the only people in all of UU that kept your trust in me back when I was going through it. I'm happy you got some renewed play in ADV UU too - it's really a good tier despite what happened with your games, maybe you can keep playing it a bit in the future. Good luck in UUPL - I am def not managing that lol.
hammer798 you were the only retain we were seriously considering. I can play RBY but I'm not exactly a support, so you were absolutely essential to the success off this team. Not to mention you were the goat in your games, finished the season with the most wins in RBY NU - not bad for a 10k retain. As soon as you asked to join the "Whalecord" I knew this was gonna work out great. Also remember a lot of this team you helped draft on draft day too. Hope we can team up again sometime soon somewhere if I'm still here.
Suzuya the goat, benched Week 1, 5-1 record afterwards in my favorite tier. I had a really great time helping you in GSC Ubers this tour. I kinda always knew you'd be able to play it well since you play Ubers, and you play GSC UU well, it seems only natural. And you played like a natural too - and I know you know you should be 6-0 if not for one thing that you aren't forgetting anytime soon. You really gave us a huge boost and you're one of the main reasons we succeeded - being able to rely on you to win basically every week relieved a lot of pressure from the rest of us. Good luck goat.
Django other goat, you won the whole tour for us at the very end with all the pressure. Your slot is really a combination of you + Stox . We drafted Stox first hoping to follow up by drafting some youngblood they can support well, but instead of a youngblood we somehow got a seasoned vet on top of Stox support. The amount of prep and activity in that channel was well beyond any others, you both worked extremely well together and I'm not sure we could have found a more perfect combination of A) Player willing to put in near-daily prep with B) Support drafted player willing to review constantly. We were lucky to have both of you. Stox thanks for all the support you gave here, I wanted to try to get you a game during the season as well and you really weren't interested, you just wanted to keep helping Django and it is much appreciated.
Fc we won two tours in two months - not bad! (where's our other custom?). You're a great competitor - right away you were offering to help out in various tiers beyond the one you signed up for. This isn't exactly a super duper important tour compared to some others you may be in, but you still put in your best effort not only to win your own games, but to make sure the rest of the team was set in what they were doing too. I think it's because it's just part of your spirit - you aren't actually capable of not putting in your best effort probably regardless of what's in front of you. I hope we can team up in the future in other tours too, we've got a good winning streak going.
Micciu idk what happened bro lol this was not your tour. Don't worry though we all have them (just look at my UU sheet record), having a tough record sucks but being a champion is great, so you can go on and start winning elsewhere now and try to make a positive impact.
Raahel it's always great to team up with you. Sorry to kind of commandeer the GSC NU slot after the first two weeks but I appreciate you always being willing to sub in on any notice even when you're not starting. You're doing really well in GSC PU though and I'm sorry I'll have to beat you this week but I hope you win all your other games in all your other tours.
doso749 I honestly didn't know you at all (I still kinda don't) but you came in big in ADV Ubers this season with seemingly not a lot of experience going into it. You actually finished #2 on the sheet for it. You seem to play everything from what I've seen in your posts, but you also seem to win everything too lol I hope you can keep it up. Anyone who is looking for a wildcard draft slot in literally any tour should draft you, you could end up coming up big in whatever tier they put you in. Rambode thanks for sticking with it in this slot too and the help is appreciated. I thought we were gonna split the games here but Doso kinda popped off so we rode the momentum. You still helped out a ton even while on the bench and it really helped us push into the playoffs.
pengusheepie we didn't have a super solid Orre plan out of the draft so we drafted both of you hoping we could create a working slot here. It ended up working out as best as we could hope for in a very volatile tier. Pengu you were great starting in Week 2 and we wanted to keep slotting you in after that to help you stay in form and keep momentum. I know you probably wanted a bit of a better record but this tier is crazy (but also fun). Sheepie appreciate you sticking with it too, I know you probably wanted another game or two but we had to keep one playing consistently to prep once playoffs rolled around, though I know you are more than capable though of it - the whole reason we drafted you is because you were racking wins in other tours. I'm sure you can get another shot here soon.
A Welcome Guest you were one of our most expensive players (at $6500 somehow) and we kept you on standby to go into whatever slot was needed. I think you're a great utility player for virtually any tour, there's not many tiers you do not play. I was confident slotting you in wherever we needed as the season went on, but luckily we were mostly successful so you ended up just getting a couple good games in. Best of luck in the future tours, I hope people realize the value you add to any squad.
bernKafkafkaRoyalReloaded we didn't get you many games because of our loaded roster, but I'm happy we still got you in when we could. All three of you had a great presence in our teamcord nonetheless, and that's all anyone can ever ask for out of subs during downtime. All three of you are great players too, I hope you continue to try to play these ancient tiers and maybe make a comeback next year with some more experience. They are all quite fun to play.
BouffMrSoup Thank you for all the support during the season. It's kinda crazy to think you were the only two helpers we had all year, and you were both present from start to finish. No playoff adds or anything, just you two helping out throughout the season. I always believed too many helpers is counterproductive, and two very strong, very helpful supporters is more than enough to help push us over the top. Thanks again for everything.
Also a big shoutout to the hosts sequoiaHisoka and Zac . When Zac first approached me that he had "a crew" ready to go to host ALT PL I was thrilled (since I was definitely not hosting this year). I actually probably don't participate if Zac doesn't message me because I honestly wasn't thinking about it until then. Thanks for helping keep this tour running, and hopefully it gets run back again next year.
Special shoutout to Monky25Hiro'Akeras for helping me host this tour the previous 3 years, all of you are great (RIP Monky tho). Also special shoutout to phoopesRageSiatam and Waves for approving this tour back in 2022 and allowing it to happen. It's been 4 seasons strong ever since. Thanks to goldmason as well for helping out this year too, and for being an enthusiastic participant in years prior. At the end of the day, it's the enthusiasm that keeps things alive, and I hope this tour stays hype for the future.
And one final big thanks to all the players and managers across the four seasons of this tour, you are the ones that keep things going.
