Rules
  • Follow all rules listed here.
  • Schedule via Smogon VMs. It's easier for me to make decisions for activity calls when I can actually see what went down with scheduling.
  • If you are unable to schedule with your opponent, please let your managers know ASAP so they can communicate that to me or the other team's managers for a potential substitute.
  • Substitutions may be made after a week has started. When making a substitution, please tag myself, the managers of the opposing team, and all of the players affected by the substitute to ensure that everyone is made aware. Players who have already played in the week or were subbed out in the same week cannot be subbed back in.
  • If a match remains incomplete by the time of the deadline, it will be subject to an activity call.
  • Replays are mandatory. Not only are they useful for confirming wins, they contribute to usage stats and allow the people who couldn't watch the games live to watch them later.
  • Managers: Please send me your lineups in the same format that I used to post pairings. It makes it much easier to post future rounds more quickly.

Score: 1W/3L - Not too surprised since I made some risks like Laurel vs Louis, but sometimes you can't be as accurate at predicting, like Indulge vs Sheik lol. At least week 1 gives me some insight into the status of the player at the moment.

DPP OU: LouisIX vs Airi
My impression of Louis after week 1 is that he has a grasp of what he should click with no bad plays afterward, but I think he may have some sort of struggle in the long-term scenarios/sequences due to his lack of in-game knowledge. He did get extremely unlucky on Celebi bc that means CB Gyarados would go crazy + no rocks on the opposing side. After t14, I think Louis lost there pretty much since he's not gonna make double-reads and being forced to play on defense, as I'd prolly have gone to CB ttar as there's a high chance donphan is there in these days.
As for Airi, nahhh that early turn was insane for the funniest reasons. That Gengar-switch to make conditioned read on Explosion into them using Iron Ball t1 is frying me tf out LMAO. I think if Airi had Vaccum wave, they would have won with 2+ LO Aura Sphere vs Quagsire, especially the dmg on EQ from Flygon on Quagsire revealed it was impish. Unfortunate game either way, though.

But yeah, as far as I've seen here, most Chinese players are opting to run more balanced/defensive teams, and I don't think you'll see offense structures from them unless the teams are very straightforward flowcharts that have mons with a very narrow-minded gameplan(sub gengar, sub gyarados aka as long the mon can act on its own and forces the player to play linear sequences) that avoids them to make double reads. The best example of a team I could think of is if you meet 1314 / Zga guy that uses the brainrot skarm/scarfttar/nape/quagsire/lucario/gengar team lmao. But yeah, long rambling aside, I think Airi is winning here as they have many unique ways to map out their endgames that I don't think Louis will have nailed down by the end of the week. So there's probably a high chance Airi will bring smth unique offensive teams while Louis may bring stall teams that cover most possible endgame scenarios.

DPP OU: Laurel vs Sheik
I don't think I've seen these two play against each other, which makes it a very interesting matchup. I've a feeling Laurel can either bring a team with a unique mon like Shaymin, or bring a zapmie/para team vs Sheik, or both. While I have a feeling Sheik may opt for Blissey teams, Donphan teams, or more than likely use the team he used in SPL if he plays this after. Either way, I expect above average of dpp turns in this set tbh. I'm predicting Sheik to win as Laurel isn't that unique enough that Sheik lacks enough time to adapt his playstyle, and IMO will outplay while Laurel may make critical long-term mistakes, shrug.

DPP OU: Lazuli vs XYStarshine - I don't really like XYStarshine's team as it felt like it omega fishes for avoiding Loom and arguable Clefable as CM or Knock Clefable gives XY's team too many problems(Mixgon is not a Clef CT both phys/spdef especially when SpDef has some def investment in order to survive Mixgon STABS) in the long term. XY had an innovative take on mixgon structure overall, but it's smth that won't age as well as being prone to Loom, Taunt Gyarados, tspikes, and more upcoming anti-balance techs will come in the future. I will say that XY is willing to risk the mu if the preparation is right, which makes me believe Lazuli can get vibe checked extremely hard if being too complacent. But I think XY falls into the categories I mentioned on second paragraph, so as long as Lazuli has awareness of what XY will bring, he shouldn't break a sweat.

DPP OU: Tizio Potente Ao vs Kitoothe
Kitoothe should not have lost that week 1; that MU was horrid for XY since CM Clef alone causes havoc for his teams. Obviously, he got critted pretty early on, but that Clef should've been preserved until the end, and when it was gone, it was pretty awkward for him to come back for that. His team was pretty good and something I'd use myself in tours. Hopefully, he improves on the gameplay more because this player matchup is actually really close IMO. Tizio is better bc of obvious reasons, but I think it's a good chance Kitoothe can take this win unless things go out of spiral, which Tizio's offense can occasionally do.

Highlight of this DPP is Laurel vs Sheik, but I think Tizio vs Kitoothe could be argued personally.
