MY GUY U KNOW THAT SHIT I Love SHIT talk

I don't give a shit that I lost y'all are getting the shit I wanted to write out for the winpost anyways I've been wanting to do this so badly again after not being able to for the past month

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of my favourite quests in all of Monster Hunter are the multi-monster hunts that take place in the arena with the monsters being a high power level than the rank you're actually at. Think High Rank monsters in a Low Rank Quest, and G Rank in a High Rank one. Usually they're gotten after competing all the quests in the village campaign where they're featured or having to progress further into the hunter's hub to unlock them in the village. I prefer the former since it lets you go into these quests at the lower level compared to the actual monsters, makes them much more intense and satisfying when you actually are able to beat them with weaker gear. Some of my favourites are Out of the Fry Pan in Generations, Ultimate Generation in GU, and Master's Test in 4U. Really the only bad one I'd say is the one that exists in Rise, since it only came into existence like a month or so after the game released because Bazelguese is in the quest but wasn't yet added to the game, so despite the potential to have a difficult quest in the (rather small) village campaign, it ended up falling flat as I had already beaten Narwa and had the best gear in the game at that point in time (it was out for like a month don't forget, and Rise is really easy to just blast through...).

That being said, easily my favourite among these quests in Mark of a Hero from 3U. MH3U was my first Monster Hunter game back when I started almost 11 years ago now, so I was quite bad at it LMAO. I knew going into the game about Mark of a Hero, so I was really looking forward to trying it out. Took me a while to learn that I had to complete every village quest in order to unlock it, so I had to go through all the random quests that I had skipped over cuz they were either gathering quests or I thought they were too difficult for me lol. The quest itself has a nice lineup: Ivory Lagiacrus, Azure Rathalos, and Brachydios, all dealing damage equivalent to G Rank monsters in a High Rank quest. Really fitting to have these three considering Ivory is effectively the final boss of village High Rank, while Brachydios and Azure are the flagship monsters of the game (for some reason Azure is the flagship in North America but the rest of the world had Brachy???), and they all appear in the opening movie that plays whenever you boot up the game. Really feels like it's tying the whole game together y'know? Ivory Lagiacrus is probably the easiest part of the quest, considering you fight it on its own, but it's still challenging because you need to make sure you don't burn too many resources trying to kill it before Azure and Brachy make their way into the arena together after Ivory goes down. Then shit gets really chaotic unless you play your Smoke Bombs perfectly. I still remember the exact gear I was running when I beat this quest for the first time: full High Rank Ivory Lagiacrus armor with Deviljho Dual Blades. Took me three whole days of attempts bashing my head into a wall before I was able to complete the quest, and it felt so amazing to finally be able to do so.

And then that unlocks the real final quest in 3U's village, Alatreon. The only one you can fight without having gotten the download quests. Lmao. I wasn't able to actually kill this thing my first time around with High Rank gear, so I headed off to G Rank to craft better stuff so I could finally take it down. But fast forward I forget how many years and I'm playing through a second 3U file slowly over time and make it back to these quests, I managed to beat Mark of a Hero within 3 tries (first I forgot a bunch of items, second I died immediately and decided to cut my losses lol) with the exact same gear I had when I beat it all those years prior. And then Alatreon I was able to beat with High Rank gear this time. Really helped me realize just how much I had grown and improved at the game in all that time.

Also the 3U arena theme is absolutely amazing and is easily the best one in the entire series. It really gives this feeling that you're up against this great challenge, but that you'll still be able to overcome it so long as you keep on trying. Really helps me lock in for a match when I really need it.

You thought I was done but nope! Here's more.

I first heard about Monster Hunter when I came across a video on Youtube by this channel called octaneblue. It was part of a series where he and his friends were playing through MH3U and having a great time. Watching them was always hilarious, made me really want to play the game too even if I couldn't get online access at the time. That was nearly 11 years ago now, and while I don't really watch him much anymore, his 3U, 4U, and FU series were some of my favourite things to watch then, and I sometimes find myself coming back to them every now and then to this day. Hell, there are so many stupid ass quotes that I still think about and use to this day even if nobody else knows them LOL. Even if I don't feel like watching full episodes, the compilations are always nice to watch through and brighten my mood.

I guess I bring this up because playing this tier in this tournament really brought back all these old memories and helped bring back the spark I had for Monster Hunter after kind of falling off after World's release (partially because I can't really play it cuz I have nothing that can run it and partially because I don't care much for the new direction the series has taken since then). Going back to old games and reliving those old memories is nice, but making new ones with them is perhaps even more important. Maybe it's just a coincidence that I started playing this tier around the time I started having these feelings about my past experiences and memories and all the nostalgia, but I feel as though this tier made me learn to love again, for lack of better and less cheesy way to say it. I'll probably take a small break from this for a bit, playing a team tour is always tiring as shit towards the end, but I'll be sure to come back soon enough to fuck around with the new stuff. Truly an amazing series.
