LouisCyphre idk if you still have this on watch and I don't really take formal notes but I do remember some of my thoughts during the game

So first impression is Gardevoir is a pain point for me, the only thing I don't mind there is snaelstrom. Notably there is the early identification that Gardevoir has patient which brings the odds of me having an angle to tera dark a sneasler in front of it by quite a bit (I remember stating that sneasler can only lead here if it's exactly gardevoir reponse clicking future sight). Not bringing my z-psychic crystal sucks a little here but otherwise my lichpin weezing doesn't mind 5/6 options here (this is a product more of it not minding most spots as opposed to lineups). I feel like Sneasler and Iron Valiant have a lot more good spots than bad ones from my side. Everything else feels relatively even in terms of line up odds

I lead snaelstrom because half round gives it the best options for just setting up a board for later with second order (also this mon just isn't that scared of rock types with torrent hydro cannon) and bc I'm pretty sure my "safe leads" of previous patches are most likely bad now in favour of more traditional singles style leads and it's a bulky water type that demands some interaction that isn't clicking big dmg into it.

I was a little scared of a counterswitch on my weezing since I still don't want to see gardevoir as I think it's the only thing that stops weezing just being an asshole for 5 rounds or so

So I was not expecting to have to fight matchup control as hard as I did here, trapped weezing is kinda upset in that eventually it has to explode to make progress and making sure the right time to click that button is found is one of the bigger stuggles with this mon, I like that weezing is able to make ttar spend as much en as it is doing (I have no idea how I'm fighting this thing otherwise rn) but I need a window to flip how much pressure I'm applying from "stall" to "sweep" since I'm pretty sure this weezing is never clicking chill with infestation ending on a timing to let ttar out

In the hunt for the tempo swing (tiebreakers are horrific for how I like to play, I think I'm behind on the hp one for almost the entire match) we finally find a spot to get sneasler in on first order into future sight, exploding weezing is a big commitment but I'm pretty sure it's right here. Also I'm feeling the pressure of trying to get snaelstrom in in time to catch the end of smog fog with the toxic orb gone but I feel like the weezing explosion lets me apply enough pressure to get a counterswitch to realise this or gardevoir gets commited to dying to sneasler, tho I'm not sure which one is better for me as sneasler is always getting off a big damage swing here regardless

I feel the tera restriction of not being able to combo a lot after that first round, snaelstrom has a lot of tech to spend now and not a lot of way to do it well tbh. Some neat interaction happened up until this point but I'm pretty sure by the time we hit crucibelle vs snaelstrom the only thing in my head is my entire job is making sure matching ttar into anything other than sneasler is as hard as possible, I'm not fully confident in my self sacrifice subs here but I also feel like they are disincentivised to begin with and making sure snaelstrom is able to be fighting fit if ttar comes in after Head Smash ~ Explosion is likely enough to keep it from happening

After the custap berry incident I feel like this is just closing moments, I fumble the sneasler into ttar round a lot but I think the boardstate is more than enough in my favour by this point that it likely doesn't matter, I did believe the ttar bring in was because it drew in sneasler as an answer so you could mismatch it into crucibelle but I felt pretty okay in sneasler's ability to take the role of a cleanup sweeper here (the lum berry was because I though unnerve wasn't going to still be in play by the time of round start)

I still want to push what I thing teams can do as a comp, and this feels like I'm back on the right direction

I had a hard time telling "playing fast and loose" from "playing with the new controls" in the early rounds, and I remember being pretty stressed about that.

Round 1 being a half-start round was honestly a godsend. Getting to pick and choose what I was willing to let slide in exchange for Poison was a good primer into exactly what kind of match I was about to get in to. Unfortunately, I probably chose wrong and should have just traded Rocks. I didn't anticipate just how much time Weezing would get to click various Fogs; a sign of what was to come.

I think I was just wholly unprepared for a threat like Weezing. So many of my Pokemon are ability-less stat checks like Tyranitar, or utility attackers like Garchomp, but this particular lineup felt hand-picked to be bad into this Pokemon. I was grateful that I hadn't built a team around Guts or other boosting abilities, sure, but Weezing sits on the pile of physical attackers I brought, and deals 30-ish to Garde with Gunk Shot.

I think I realized far too slowly that the pace of the match was working against me. By the time I clocked that we were settling in for a longer game, I had already spent resources on tempo. I hadn't brought any Pressure users or Pokemon with passive recovery, so I didn't have any opportunity to pivot to a slower game, either. These six would have wanted to push progress and put opponents on the back foot, but they don't really have the tools to do so in the modern game. I would've need a new, modern class of belligerent threat; like a particular Poison Touch Pressure user, with a backpack to match.

I'll need to make sure I have some kind of stall-capable Pokemon as a sixth slot on aggressive sends in the future; just like how I expect we should be keeping some kind of speed control Pokemon around on bulkier sends. Does that permute into potentially toxic teambuilding requirements? Hard to tell, but at least there are a few dozen Pressure users to choose from.

also i have pretty low faith now in pokemon that do not have "kill anything you want", "your opponent cannot" or "get this for free" written on them, which leaves a awful taste in my mouth. ngas and pressure, sand stream and p heal, tinted lens and guts, or get out of town.

i would feel kind of embarassed to submit a Swampert in the current environment. like an admission that i just don't have something busted to slot instead.

I would call it a good game overall, and one that leaves me optimistic to play more BBP!
