Project SV DOU Teambuilding Competition v3: Week 37 (Volcanion)

Congratulations to Skwovetboi to winning! This week will be
:sv/tyranitar:
Tyranitar, one of the most consistently good mons in Doubles, boasts an incredebly high Attack stat and Sand Setting capabilities. Tyranitar has fallen out of favour as of late due to more Landorus representation but Tera Ice TeraBlast can fix it I promise

Team submission ends Thursday, 19th of February!

:tyranitar: :excadrill: :indeedee-f: :iron-crown: :ogerpon-hearthflame: :kyurem:
sandy psyspam team featuring firepon and kyurem, who are tasked with bullying rillaboom and landorus respectively. SD excadrill creates space for itself to setup by baiting protects and with the help of sand provided by tyranitar, can 1v1 a lot of mons in the format. tyranitar is a fat wall and the defence investment lets it live rillaboom wood hammer without grassy terrain. indeedee wears safety goggles to both deal with amoonguss and sandstorm chip, and provides iron crown with the terrain and redirection it needs. crown can ko wellspring at +2 while living a chi yu heat wave, and kyurem lives specs gholdengo make it rain

note: rillaboom is kinda hard to beat

replay against a rillaboom (2nd take after the first one also had rillaboom and i lost :p)

:tyranitar: :excadrill: :iron hands: :kyurem: :latios: :ogerpon-hearthflame:
My own version of a sand team. AV Ttar is an incredible special wall that still exerts offensive pressure with STAB knock off and rock slide. Tera flying tera blast lets it get out of many of its weaknesses and hit grass types like rilla for super effective while low kick helps deal with mons like ursaluna and kingambit. SD excadrill is a classic sand abuser with oppressive speed and ability to threaten mons like chien pao, chipped iron hands, gholdengo, etc. Tera ghost lets it dodge fake out and fighting moves. SD Iron hands provides a secondary physical threat as well as much needed bulk to the team. Kyurem provides speed control with glaciate, ability to one shot problematic mons like walking wake and waterpon with freeze dry, and can tera water to better handle gholdengo as well as being better able to wall sun teams. Latios provides additional speed control with tailwind. Latios has far more offensive presence than torn or whimsicott and unlike roaring moon, it can threaten big damage on fighting type mons like iron hands without having to tera. Eject pack also lets it easily pivot out of incin leads as well as letting it drop draco and pivot out. Finally, firepon provides additional power against rillaboom and gholdengo while also providing redirection support.

Congratulations to budgie pup stew for winning! This week will be
:sv/volcanion:
Volcanion has a very unique combination of type, stats and movepool to be an interesting Fire attacker with the capabilities of forcing out Incineroar and Ursaluna with incredebly strong Water STAB and murks the likes of Sinistcha and Rillaboom switching in to tank Water hits with powerful Fire STAB.

Team submission ends Thursday, 26th of February!

This is my first time doing a team of the week, and the first time in a while I've posted a team for any tier. I would not have expected this start nor ending of a hiatus to happen SV DOU but here we are. I've been trying to build somewhat for OSDT and have definitely been raging a lot (mb to opponents) about how to build for this tier. This thread did pique my interest a lot with Volcanion, one of the most unique Pokemon I've had the pleasure of using. I didn't really know what to do with it at first until looking at it with the bigger picture in mind.
I wanted to point out a couple specific sets here, most of them are standard but still wanted to go over a couple things which I think make the team unique. Don't have any calcs ready, as I made this team very very recently. Note, I'm 99% sure this team has a bunch of weaknesses, however I'd rather get flamed publicly and learn than to not risk it, so here we go.

:sv/volcanion:

Volcanion @ Life Orb
Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heat Wave
- Steam Eruption
- Sludge Bomb
- Taunt
I really like having Pokemon that can be very offensive and provide utility. I've found this nice to lead off with Torn or Iron Hands. On Farig ins Torn can't get its own taunt off so Volc can completely block TR. Heat Wave compounded with Chi-Yu also does a huge amount of damage, meaning if you need to switch out either Torn or IH Chi Yu can come in with Torn for a Heat Wave.
:sv/sinistcha:
Sinistcha-Masterpiece @ Eject Pack
Ability: Hospitality
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 248 HP / 60 Def / 4 SpA / 168 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rage Powder
- Matcha Gotcha
- Trick Room
- Shadow Ball
I do have a weakness to using the Eject items a lot. I really like using them and Sinistcha felt very strange to use it on, but I think it worked out well. It was very good for helping me get an emergency exit whenever Incin would be on the field, or any Intim mon for that matter, and even though I haven't seen this it's gotta be good against Icy Wind too, I did see Rock Tomb at one point in an unlinked game which it did work on as well. What this allowed me to do was get off multiple hospitalities for Ursa and Volc, keeping their hps high due to them losing HP a lot. Trick Room is meant to turn the tides for Ursa if needed, and I don't need to explain the rest of the moves.
:sv/chi-yu:
Chi-Yu @ Focus Sash
Ability: Beads of Ruin
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heat Wave
- Snarl
- Overheat
- Protect

Definitely this team's MVP even with the others being great. Great to switch into for if you want to get just a little bit more SpA, great at utilizing that itself. I went with Focus Sash and tect because I wanted it to stay on the field longer than it would with other items, like specs or scarf. It can deal a lot of damage yeah, but I want to use it more to enable the others rather than let it take all the glory, since it can easily do both.

Gonna include some replays, after testing some lackluster teams my rating went a bit down but still wanted to test a bit.

That's all from me, let me know if there's anything I can fix up on for these, otherwise have a great day.

- Jensen

Pretty standard tang room build i went like 7-0 with from 1700. Dual water absorb gives this a very strong rain matchup, while the combination of specs volc and sd wellspringpon gives immense water type breaking power(Grass types get smoked by specs heat wave anyways). Fast diancie and volcanion are meant to outspeed lando, pons, torn etc. while sash lando allows stealth rocks to be gotten up against chien pao, improving paonite mu. I think volc has a lot of potential as a fat SPA statstick unfortunately ladder only uses it to run haze vs me whenever i try any setup.

:chien pao: :diancie: :sneasler: :ogerpon wellspring: :volcanion: :dragonite:

Standard semi room team, assault vest Volcanion helps taking so many hits and eats so many popular mons like Gholdengo, Sinistcha, Ting lu ,Incineroar. Sucker punch and extreme speed on Pao and dnite respectively helps them to work in trick room. Sludge bomb helps with waterpon and firepon, earth power with Raging bolt and other Volcanions. Pretty cool team. Helped me to reach 1900 on ladder
Note: I accidentally pasted wrong team :skull:

Volcanion is my next candidate for the "replace the av mon's item with psychic seed and tack it onto psyspam" and it fit better than i expected as it matches up well into chi-yu, incineroar, rillaboom, gholdengo, and chien-pao, which are some of psyspam's hardest hills to climb. ogerpon rock and zapdos galar deal with snow and rillaboom respectively, and taunt roaring moon is an amazing tool that i've recently come to admire and a godsend into snow, hard trick room, and low ladder in general.

Notes: the ogerpon and zapdos slots are very flexible, i chose ogerpon rock to minimize type overlap and zapdos galar to beat rillaboom and discourage the parting shots that otherwise eventually forces volcanion out and removes its psychic seed boost.

EVs: crown and indeedee are the same spreads as last week, zapdos lives bolt thunderclap and kos rillaboom with brave bird, volcanion outspeeds uninvested rillaboom and lives landorus earth power, roaring moon is standard
