Randbats Spotlight Ladder!

The Randbats Spotlight Ladder's purpose is simple: to give formats that would not otherwise have a chance to be played on a wider scale. Each other month, four options will be given, and the winner after a week of voting will have its own ladder for a period of two months!

As usual, this Randbats Spotlight will feature a SMOGON TOURNAMENT related to it. More details about this tournament are included in this thread, so keep reading...​

Highlighted matches of the week!

Gen 9 Random Battle (Bo5): JJ09LIE vs GXE > if my nickname is a wifi password, those two could be postal codes. Michielleus and JJ, two of the best players on the Faction, will have played a mere 9 games combined together at the end of this week, which is one of the reasons why Heatrans are not higher in the standings. However! This is the time, this is the moment. The lights are bright and we'll see two of the best Gen 9 players in JJ and GXE duke it out to propel their teams to playoffs!
Gen 8 Random Battle: Zap vs mj > ok I know it's the umpteenth time I have mj here but it's because this series can be very good on paper. Zap has officially returned to his past high past levels between Wcor and Rbtt and one more win means he'll finish with an impressive 6-1 record in the pool. Is he going to get the job done against the austrian?
Gen 6 Random Battle: JustOut459 vs yerdunc > these two know each other and the format very well. Yerdunc's Rbtt debut has gone badly so far but at this point, you need to try and reset mentally because a win here does a lot for yourself and the team
Gen 5 Random Battle: Gom vs Hacker > speaking of resets, Hacker in 5 is super surprising but he had a rough season in 7 and Pigey, who was the designated Gen 5 starter, definitely needed a change of environment. Gom is also a player who didn't play this slot originally but they should be more accustomed to Gen 5 rands than their opponent
Gen 1 Random Battle: Kingslayer Caterpie vs royzin > Caterpie can clinch #1 in the pool (probably tied with others) with a win, while Roy can win his 4th in a row and prove once again he is quite strong at clicking Body Slam and getting locked
The doubles series > for a reason or another, Marco and Fede haven't played at their best level in Rbtt this season yet. However, what better way to be motivated than playing against a friend in a decisive match? I doubt they are going to be in the same room like they did at NAIC but hopefully we'll see some fun banter nonetheless. For the other slot, Dinis (along with srvoltmike) has been the revelation of the pool but he is facing Hare, who subbed in and got two convincing wins. Very hype series, these ones

Gen 7 Random Battle: BigWes95 vs LordST > I am making Wes happy and I'll highlight his match vs LordST. The american finally won a match last week and if he is focused and, well, available, he should represent a very good challenge for the brit, who won two series in a row and he is probably getting powered by Tim Hortons in the next few days
Gen 6 Random Battle: NoName6293 vs Vioz > battle of the indians, battle between first and second in the pool... which already happened because NoName keeps trying and succeeding at getting First Blood every week smh
Gen 4 Random Battle: Wigglytuff vs Click>Think > two of the most consistent Gen 4 ladder players who are sadly having a negative season. We'll see who is going to end their (regular) season on a high note
Gen 3 Random Battle: drifttrick vs xGang > similarly to NoName vs Vioz, we have the #1 vs #2 in the pool. If he wins against him for the second year in a row, we could say Drift has taken Gang's mantle as best player of Gen 3. The dutchman is having himself a strong season and he'll definitely try to show why he is (still) one of the Rbtt goats
Gen 2 Random Battle: Flights of Fantsy vs LoSconosciuto > Fantsy to top the pool (maybe alongside Mikon), Losco to finish his season strong. Fantsy was drafted by Losco last year but it seems like he just needed to hoop to get strong results. The italian needs no introduction, he knows his opponent and a win could still be useful for his team. At worst, 5-2 is still a very good record for the season
Gen 9 Random Doubles: pokeblade101 vs Karthik > Blade in doubles, Blade in doubles, this is not a drill! For the joy of FreyaknightVGC and the curiosity of many, including myself, Blade has the chance to prove himself in randdubs. Now, what's going to happen if he wins and Adelynn wins in bo5? Are we going to see a shake up in the Hoopa lineup for playoffs? I don't know but it could be a tempting change to make...

Gen 3 Random Battle: Jordy004 vs MasterJ007 > rematch of the Gen 3 final open! Unexpected final back then, unexpected to see them play 3 in Rbtt but here we are
Gen 2 Random Battle: Mikon vs KeshBa54 > one of the highlight matches of the week. Mikon is, to the surprise of no one, doing great in the pool. Keshba is 3-3 but one was an act loss and he has proven to be a strong player that definitely belongs to Rbtt

Gen 9 Random Doubles: snorlax142857 vs soTsoT > even the amazing soTsoT couldn't beat the rubber duck and this week he faces snorlax, who is coming from a much needed win against Karthik. Are we going to see the best version of Snorlax or are we going to get another reminder of why soT is, probably, the second best randdubs player right now? Hype match between two veterans of randbats
Gen 9 BSS Factory: Emboar02 vs luisin > battle of two friends who are having completely opposite seasons. As I said last week, friends playing each other can lead to funny moments and wild plays so let's see what these two have in store for us
Gen 9 Hackmons Cup: Panty&Stockings vs MultiAmmiratore > one of the good old classic matches of this format, these two are some of Hackmons Cup's strongest soldiers on this website. The series they had last year was quite good so let's see if it's the same in 2026 (they are playing right now so I am posting this immediately after the series is over)
Random Roulette: Piyu vs MichaelderBeste2 > rematch of the Rbtt final of last year but this time in Roulette and not Gen 7. Piyush winning means he would go 19-3 in his last 3 major rands tours (Rbtt 8, Wcor, Rbtt 9), while Michael will try to get his revenge and finish positive

The Gen 9 series > if you look at these pairings, all of them involve players who started and who are still maining tiered formats but who have been gaining experience with rands for a while. Career Ended is an OM guSeparation is going to be a hard test to pass. Drifting is 4-1 and something tells me he'll no longer be snubbed in Rbtt, even if he loses to zS. Buhrito vs aim is a series that could offer good entertainment too
Gen 8 Random Battle: teresbahji vs Clem > for the "long tenured randbats players facing each other" theme, Teres, who had his best Rbtt season under Clem last year, now faces his former manager not in gen 9 but in gen 8, which I guess works as home turf for both of them. Celebi's gen 8 slot has not gone well between Clem, Haunter and Zio but Teres himself isn't doing too fancy at the moment so this is an open series
Gen 4 Random Battle: blundergoth vs O1V7O2X9O > similarly to Click vs Wiggly, here we find two of the most dedicated Gen 4 ladder players. Blunder has had a pretty solid Rbtt debut so far but Steven is Steven so you need to bring your A game to beat him. And rocks. Always bring rocks in Gen 4
The doubles series > Ionnss can establish a record that I don't think can be replicated, aka going 7-0 in regular season in Rbtt... for two years in a row. Absolutely insane. Who was the last person to defeat him in this tournament? His long-time rival Idyll, who is having a comeback season after a disappointing Rbtt 8 and Wcor. Something historical will happen, in a way or another. Lrogue is the good old reliable sub everyone is happy with but he is probably worth more than that in doubles. He'll try to go 2-0 in this slot but Mike is having a wonderful season and he finally seems to have adapted to randdubs. Is he going to be the long awaited dubs messiah for team US West in Wcor?
Gen 9 BSS Factory: Sapphire vs IcyPenguin2 > Sapphire started playing BSSF to test people in tryouts and she felt comfortable with this format despite her being - her words, not mine - a fraudulent singles players (outside of cc1v1). So yeah, an unexpected self-slotting but given how non BSSF mainers did this tournament, she could pull an upset
