Project SV RU: Next Best Thing (Week 6: To Be Revealed...) (Voting Closed!)

:mimikyu:
monstrosity (Mimikyu) @ Red Card
Ability: Disguise
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Thunder Wave / Will-O-Wisp
- Rest / Pain Split
- Light Screen / Curse
- Shadow Sneak

what the hell is this. Well, Mimikyu is my favorite spinblocker, not because it's good but because it's FUNNY. Phaze around with Red Card while patching up some of hazard stacking teams' sus matchups. You can spread a status of your choice, and you always have the option of Curse to troll demon sets, or set Light Screen if you have a free turn.

Will Choice Band or Trick Room support win this week? You decide.

This is a funny mmq set I cooked up a long while ago (though how good it is would be up to debate). The primary goal of this set is to lure in Pokemon such as Registeel or Quagsire, cripple them with Will-O-Wisp, then prevent them from recovering with Taunt. This ensures that if it switches in correctly, it can help break down bulkier teams for teammates to benefit. And this set still has the useful qualities of its normal set due to Play Rough+Shadow Sneak to help against offense.

Replacing one move with another? How original.

HO has some item removal options, such as krook's Knock Off and garde's Trick (it isn't techincally item removal, but garde can pawn off scarf to cripple mons). Thief is an unique item removal method, allowing mmq to steal and use an item. This pairs well with spike stack HO, as mmq can remove boots to rack up hazard damage. Thief can also cripple mons offensively and defensely outside of boots. For example, Red Card can force mein to come out, so mmq can use scarf against it (alternatively, mmq can stomach mein's knock off from full and steal its scarf). Even if mmq is faster, sd allows it to still abuse Red Card.

Thief has its downsides, however. The aforementioned speed problem against slower mons means it can't utilize Thief immediately. In some cases, mmq can't do anything, since it doesn't have Shadow Sneak for chip. Being choice locked or having av means it cannot futher boost its attack. Specs in this case is the most crippling, since it has no revenge killing opportunities, no physical attack boost, nor better special bulk. Stealing Toxic Orb from loom puts it on a timer, even more useless if loom already procs Toxic Orb. Finally, Thief is a one-and-done move, meaning it cannot remove another item.

I think mimikyu if not working as an all out attacker has to be used as a spd wall of some sort (seriously why does it have base 105 out of everything), sure there's def sets with willo that could work but it feels redundant with the low natural def.
Twave and sneak were automatically put in for speed control, destiny bond I think is a must in case Red Card wasn't enough, plus if you are slower and bond you get a free turn to Curse or Trick Room depending on how you build your team.

Reminder that Voting will close on February 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM!

As there is a tie between Claire's set and Tubular's set, I'll be breaking the tie, and by my own vote, Claire2525 wins this week's Next Best Thing! Thank you everyone for participating once again, and next week we'll be doing something a little out of the ordinary... An idea courtesy of our very own Winterbub!
