Also in general there's just going to be a lot of people who just don't know or care about piracy. Lots of people will look at the eshop and go oh hey a Pokemon game for $20 alright
or: oh, i haven't played this one, $20? sure!
or: hey dad can i get this pokemon game it has charizard on it
or: i got $20 to burn what looks nice
or: wow...leaf green....that really hits me in the nostalgia...oh why not let's bite.

Corporations are always going to be soooooo mad about piracy and probably see stuff like this as putting up another wall, but on the whole they probably are marketing way more towards general "doesnt care" user base and less Guy Who Was Never Going to Buy It, so to speak.

Japan getting a fanciful limited physical edition, meanwhile, is towards nostalgic sickos.

Beyond the inclusion of the event tickets and the roaming legendary roar glitch fix, another benefit is multiple profile saves for one copy of the game. If you, or someone you share the switch with, wants to start a new game, you don’t have to delete your original save file. Just load up a new profile, boot the game on that new profile, and a new game will start while your old save remains intact.

Not even the original physical copy can do that. That only offered one save at a time.

Funny fact about these ports is that the games function as if the wireless adapter is always connected

The reason that’s funny is because, if Game Freak were to release Ruby/Sapphire on the Switch later, the games would literally be unable to link together in their current forms since the link confirmation prompts operate differently between link cable and wireless adapter connections

Considering Ruby and Sapphire run on the same engine as Emerald and that game is wireless adapter compatible, I presume either the proper functionality would be retrofitted onto them or Game Freak finds some other workaround.
