Project Unluckiest Player of the Week (Week 14, see Post #288)

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9randombattle-2554849302

On turn 8, before a gogoat about to bulk up, I had to make a choice between revealing the existence of my honchkrow for brave bird and sending out my qwilfish to intimidate and gunk shot. And well, I decided to take the risk of using gunk shot as my opponent had previously switched his gogoat out.

Gogoat stayed in and bulked up.
Qwilfish missed gunk shot 4 times from turn 9 to 12. He did finally hit the target on turn 13 but he got horn leeched.

Anyways, all of my pokemon were physical attackers, it's randbats after all, so things were not looking good.

Honchkrow went in and thunder waved. Maybe I could delay the inevitable long enough for luck to swing my way?

Turn 17, 19, 20 gogoat couldn't move, but it was inconsequential.

However, on turn 25, something magical happened. My orthworm got a critical hit in, dealing 46% damage while the enemy gogoat bulked up (still). Turn 26, 27, 28 gogoat couldn't move. Turn 29 again, another crit. I just needed a little bit more.

And then gogoat just horn leeched its way back to full health and it completed the 6-0 sweep. :D

I honestly didn't think I'd ever submit anything, but this was insane. Almost every instance of RNG that could have worked against me, did. Freeze into misfire, misfire, full para, misfire - then another full para on Ausma, into an air slash miss. Then, on turn 29, I get confused by axe kick, hit myself immediately, get hit *and* crit by a blizzard, hurt myself in confusion again, and get blizzarded down to death (through para).

Sorry for the delay!
Today's UPOW winner is R1C3M4N!

Amoonguss was shaping up to be the indisputable MVP of this game, spore-ing and taking hits left and right - that is, until Greninja got that one faithful crit, knocking out the shroom and powering up with battle bond to absolutely bowl over his team. That's not the whole story though, because even with that boost Greninja needed to land a second crit AND a flinch with dark pulse to truly turn the tides of battle. Had any of these not happened, R1C3M4N would have had this game in the bag for sure! Misfortune like that is worth a UPOW win every day of the week.

We'd also be remiss to not mention RSB's entry, where he managed to flip the sacred fire coin eight times with no burns! He won this game, so it ended up being more happenstance than bad luck however, so this stays an honorable mention rather than a true winner. Unlucky in its own way, Ironically!

The 14th Cycle of UPOW will end on the 15th of March.
so about that deadline

we'll extend it by another week and pick it back up then, keep submitting for now!

End of game, lost two speed ties in a row and on the first one missed the high horsepower that would have ended the game. Arguably could have gone for double edge for a guaranteed hit but calc gave a 68.8% chance of OHKO (vs obviously High Horsepower's 95% acc).

Opponent's team was also impossibly fast (scarf mabosstiff, deoxys attack, weavile, virizion, iron moth, regice). Missed an opening will o wisp that also would have moved the needle.

Out of 13 attacks used by the opponent, 6 crit; although most didn't matter, Knock one was inconvenient, and the last 3 attacks in combination had a chance to not KO without the critical hits, winning me the game. Comfey also lives PJab a good amount in my favour(over 2/3) if Medi was Scarfed, if Brave Bird hadn't gotten the crit.

Considering some KOed anyways, not too significant; still a funny 'bruh' replay to share.
