Why is Scizor considered "not very viable" in gen 9 OU? What outclasses it and what common threats can check it?

Who said it wasn't viable? It is.

It has 3 known and effective sets ; Choice band, Swords dance Life Orb and Utility with defog.

In terms of mon that can check it we have :

Zamazenta, Gholdengo, Healthy Great Tusk, Cinderace, Corviknight, Moltres, Raging Bolt, Zapdos, Heatran, etc.

I meant to say gen 9. I cannot type.
Scizor is far from unviable, but it's more niche this generation

I honestly think that SD and utility are garbage, and the best set is CB. Scizor has a really important trait of being an anti-offense mon with BP that also helps against the mighty Kyurem, but against balance or fat it can be quite uncomfortable, because the birds (Zap and Molt) are everywhere and they can punish it with Static/Flame Body. Corviknight is more manageable thanks to CB Close Combat being neutral. Also without the right prediction you give free switch into pokemon like Gholdengo (althought you can pop it's Air balloon with U-Turn) or Iron Valiant

Can anyone help me improve my team built around Skeledirge? I’m pretty trash at team building so I would like some advice.

Probably not the right place since Champions will be its own meta, but I’m excited for it not just for myself but because it also will be bringing my brother and cousins back to competitive battling.

So quick question. I’ll be wanting to build a competitive team involving my favorite six pokemon (singles, though I’ll be dipping in to doubles/vgc for the first time too):

Electivire, Swampert, Arcanine, Scizor, Breloom, Dragonite.

At a glance would this team work competitively (I know some individually do)? What pkmn would do what they do better? This is a VERY general question lol. Just curious

This wouldn't be a very good competitive team since almost all these pokemon aren't OU, and while Scizor has a niche in OU and Dragonite is a good OU pokemon in general, the other 4 are basically mid to dead weight.

Frankly there's a lot of pokemon to list that could do better than Electivire, Swampert, Arcanine, and Breloom (such as Great Tusk over Swampert, Kingambit over Breloom, etc) but your team is also missing many roles and doesn't fit any archetype

That’s what I was thinking as well. This could be a team I just EV train for the fun of it to vs. the family. While Mega Swampert could be something, we’ll have to see. The roles aspect will be a learning curve for me in terms of VGC doubles. Trick room, speed control, misdirect. It’s different! Thanks, FayaWizard

How come Kyurem is still allowed in OU? I’m not all that experienced with the metagame to make an accurate assessment, but based on the games I’ve played so far, that thing seems about as broken as it gets.

I just recently picked up Gen 9 OU after awhile of not playing pokemon at all and I was wondering the same thing. That demon can run like six different sets and for me at least it feels hard to switch into it especially if it’s choice spec

Each set it runs comes with enough drawbacks that it’s not truly broken

SubTect lacks power and requires heavy hazard control
Boots lacks power and struggles into faster threats (SubTect does as well, but it’s at least mitigatable)
Specs requires heavy hazard control and can be played around
Ddance usually requires Tera + can be stonewalled by the bulkier physical mons
