I'm not Shake, but eulogies do seem fun. Let's give it a try.

Ruiners:
I will admit, I did not believe in this team, I saw them as a bottom-three team at best. I predicted them to put up 50 wins in the regular season, and while they can still technically meet that, they'd need to beat the Cryos 11-1 this week. I wasn't really even going against consensus here, with the power rankings slotting them in ninth.

It'd be easy enough to say "bad team did badly, moving on," but that's kinda lazy. Their managers didn't build a team with the intention of being bad, after all. So let's instead start by looking at how each slot was projected:
  • SV1: lax (1)
  • SV2: fakenagol (22)
  • SV3: ACR1 (26)
  • SV4: sunsets (34)
  • SS: ChrisPBacon (4)
  • SM: Metallica126 (8)
  • ORAS: pj (5)
  • BW: sugarhigh (10)
  • DPP: Tizio Potente Ao (8)
  • ADV: Prinz (4)
  • GSC: Fakes (6)
  • RBY: SaDiSTiCNarwhal (7)
It's easy enough to see why the team was projected poorly. Only four of their twelve slots were ranked in the top half of their pool, after all. But I do think that that meaningfully undersells Fakes and ChrisPBacon, that the Ruiners were almost certainly more optimistic than consensus on their BW and SM slots, and that their rankings in DPP and RBY are probably too punishing if you view the bottom half of those pools as basically all the same. Essentially, the optimistic view on this team would be that they have an elite Masters group, two oldgen carries, an average SV group, and a few holes in the oldgens that aren't too disastrous. Instead:
  • SV was worse than PRs expected; they're currently 8th in the league in team wins. I don't deserve much credit here (I had them as my 10th-ranked SV group), although I did get their win total almost spot on (I predicted 15 team wins, and they're currently at 14 with three games from ACR1, sire clod, and sunsets remaining). Getting 7-6 records out of ACR1 and fakenagol combined has to be considered a success, but lax didn't perform like the top-ranked player in the SV pool, and they finished with a 3-9 record across the rest of their SV games.
  • ChrisPBacon is tied with three other players for the best SS record. Unsurprising, moving on...
  • The combined 7-10 record in ORAS and SM is less interesting than the way it played out. pj went 0-2 into bench in ORAS, Metallica126 went 0-2 in SM into 4-1 in ORAS, and the PZZ/devin combo went 2-3 as SM backups. That's a lot of moving parts to say that in the end, the PRs for these tiers looked about right, and crucially, the SM slot did not live up to the optimism that Empo support might offer at all
  • BW went better than expected! Sure, expectations were low, but sugarhigh went 3-3 and the subs went 1-2. RBY, likewise, went about as you'd expect. Fakes went 6-2 in DPP and GSC, and non-Fakes players have gone 2-7 in those tiers. That, too, is a bit better than the PRs expected, but a little below my optimistic predictions. The actual issue, though, was...
  • Prinz went 0-3 into switch to BW into bench. This was the real disaster here, not only because of the losses themselves, but because the Ruiners just didn't have the backups to cover an unexpected hole. Because Jabba had to go here (and did well enough, for the record), he wasn't an option for GSC in case they wanted to move Fakes into DPP or BW to cover issues there. In other words, Prinz going 0-4 meant that the Ruiners had to use Kingler and pj as GSC subs, and they went 0-3 together. Overall, even with Tizio Potente Ao having a short leash in DPP, the Ruiners outperformed expectations in the combination of GSC/DPP/BW, but you can really see how much it hurt to have more holes than they had players to fill them.
If I had to boil that down to a few takeaways that don't just amount to "they weren't as good as the other teams on paper," here's what I'd argue:
  1. Prinz not panning out in ADV left them with a gaping hole in the lineup, and having to use Jabba there limited their lineup flexibility when they moved Fakes out of GSC
  2. The team bet that they could get elite performance out of SM without spending too much thanks to support. It didn't play out that way
  3. They had the longest bench in the league (18 players), and they clearly tried to use that by keeping a short leash on struggling players. Tizio Potente Ao was benched at 0-2 and never came back into the lineup, sunsets was benched at 0-2 and didn't play again until they were eliminated, pj and Metallica126 were also moved out of their starting tiers at 0-2 and never returned to that tier. But to me, a lot of that was a reaction to two 3-9 losses to start the season, and I just think that relying on backups in so many slots all season just put too much of a strain on their depth. Whether or not they ever had enough good players to make the playoffs, they definitely didn't have enough good players once they decided they couldn't count on Prinz or pj
Classiest:
PRs actually had them as the worst team in the league. I was more optimistic; I had them 7th, and you could talk me into as high as 5th. The PRs ranked them as follows:
  • SV1: Xrn (13)
  • SV2: LpZ (21)
  • SV3: Lazuli (24)
  • SV4: Shengineer (36)
  • SS: damien the genius (6)
  • SM: Spitfire (7)
  • ORAS: Piyu (10)
  • BW: Dark Eeveon (9)
  • DPP: Groudon (5)
  • ADV: Garay oak (5)
  • GSC: M Dragon (1)
  • RBY: Ctown6 (10)
I was more optimistic in a few ways. I thought the team would look much better swapping Spitfire and Piyu; the former had made Masters playoffs twice, whereas I had no recent record of Piyu playing anything older than SM. Plus, I thought London Beats was pretty overqualified as a backup. And really, I was just much higher on Garay oak than the PRs seemed to be; we're talking about someone with a far greater track record of tournament success than anyone else in the pool, coming off an 8-1 season the previous SPL, who had also won ADV Circuit that year. I know the Classiest were also more optimistic about their SV group than the PRs indicated, but I just didn't see it, even while being relatively high on LpZ (I had them and Xrn as 15th and 16th in the pool in some order). How did it play out?
  • They're basically middle-of-the-pack in SV wins among SPL teams, although that's a bit inflated because they moved Garay oak there to salvage things. I projected them for 16 wins and they're currently at 15, although given that they have to face the Sharks' SV juggernaut next it's not a given that they pass it. Consensus was about right here, and in particular I think this was a disappointing season for three of their starters here (6-12 record for Xrn, Lazuli, and Shengineer). For what it's worth, I was higher on Lazuli in DPP, but they just never got the opportunity because of Groudon and then Sheik
  • SS went basically according to expectations
  • ORAS and SM exceeded those extremely low PR projections; they're tied for 6th in wins across these two tiers, better than the Scooters, BIGs, and Ruiners. At the same time, though...I feel like my assumption that they would have been much better off switching Piyu and Spitfire from the start of the season would have left this team better off is still right, and while it's a very limited sample, they're 4-2 in the tiers I expected them to start in and 3-5 in the tiers they actually started in.
  • Consensus was right that their DPP and RBY slots didn't look particularly impressive, but also, 3-5 isn't really awful for your weak spots. 3-6 would be bad, 4-5 would be totally fine. And while Groudon never got into DPP this year, that's because Sheik just ran with the opportunity to sit 5-3 now.
  • But while every other slot either met or exceeded expectations, GSC and ADV were supposed to be the overwhelming strengths of this team, and they just weren't. Garay and M Dragon weren't bad, and I can point to at least one game off the top of my head (Garay - Triangles) where hax just kind of took the game out of their hands, but like, the biggest reason for optimism for this team was that the two Spaniards could put up dominant records, augmented by the fact that they can in theory support each other, and that just didn't happen.
So for takeaways that aren't just "their roster wasn't good enough," what do we have?
  1. Their carry slots weren't dominant enough. They still went positive, but on a top-heavy roster like this one you realistically needed more
  2. Suboptimal lineup construction in the Masters tiers
  3. Risky SV group, one that's worse than its final record will be because moving Garay there to squeeze out an extra few wins ultimately meant that they needed to rely on Groudon for GSC wins, and that didn't work out. Shengineer was an SPL rookie without OU results, Lazuli was basically an SPL rookie, Xrn was only intermittently active in the tier, I think it's just a group that needed more support than they had
