Breaking with the Star(aptor) of the Show (1750+)

https://pokepast.es/97a1c59420aee441

One of the first pokemon games I fell in love with was pokemon platinum, and one of the pokemon that was a constant through all of my runs was :Staraptor. with access to a good attack stat and stab reckless boosted brave bird that does massive damage on any pokemon , but an inability to outspeed common pokemon like :ogerpon-wellspring: or :iron valiant: it was clear that it needed support, and to fulfill that requirement it felt like their were two team constructions that can support :Staraptor: : it was either webs for speed control, or stall for defensive switch ins. with boots spam having some level of prevalence though it felt like the ultra defensive core was the best path to success. With that being said this team is the team i chose to try and optimize :staraptor: .

:Staraptor: :

With access to stab brave bird that two shots physically defensive :weezing-galar: as well as one shotting :jolteon: through resist , brave bird does enough damage to break through most pokemon. while it 2 shots pokemon like phys def :toxapex: , :Gholdengo: , and :dondozo: as mons that are slower than it; its brave bird also one shots any pokemon like :Darkrai: or :Zamazenta: upon switchin making it a terrifying pokemon to see come in with the speed advantage. with access to close combat to ohko :kingambit: as well as target into resists like :corviknight: as well , and give it more move diversity. Next we have uturn to make it so that we have an easy pivot move to try and get the momentum in our favor. With tera fly as well we have a way to hit even harder into the opposition that makes this mon hit like an unstoppable train.

:Goodra-Hisui: :

Goodra-Hisui is an extremely good special wall that also has a resist to psyshock as well making it so that it can handle the pokemon that may be a threat into our other special walls on the team. With access to knock off as well goodra can make it easier to apply pressure with hazard stacks as well as target into :Slowking-galar: . next to hit into :slowking-galar: and :clodsire: as well as av :primarina: . then for a strong stab attack as well as a way to target into threats like :Walking Wake: and :Raging Bolt: as well as limiting one of the biggest threats into this team in nasty plot :Hydrapple: . Finally for another stab option that hits into lots of pokemon and targets fairy types like :Weezing-Galar: as well as :clefable: the last move on this guy is flash cannon. Once :Hydrapple: teras it can become a huge threat into this team so tera fairy with Sap Sipper makes it so that it walls the nasty plot giga drain fickle beam and earth power set by nullifying both grass and dragon type moves as well as making non stab earth power no longer super effective and with goodras amazing special defense stat and the assault vest it should be able to break down that matchup. With future sight :slowking-galar: normally being threatening into builds like this :Goodra-hisui: provides a good resist for this while doing enough damage that any physical attacker that comes in risks being chipped down completely.

:Corviknight: :

With access to the ability pressure to speed up the rate of pp consumption and a really good defensive typing, corviknight felt like an invaluable addition to the team. to amplify its defense stat as well as make sure that :Kingambit: doesn't get too out of hand the first move slot is taken up by iron defense as it makes it so corviknight can win the 1v1 against most physical attackers like :dragonite: and even pp stall out choice band :Dragapult: with iron defense. the second moveslot is a move designed to take advantage of that in body press as it hits gambit for 4x damage as well as just generally break through teams. third for some recovery option and to make sure that if hazards go up we dont just get chipped down the next move is of course roost. Finally to make sure that hazards don't become too threatening if we're knocked the final move is defog as we have a couple of pokemon that take hazards.

:alomomola: :

with 3 pokemon that take chip from hazards on this team and the existence of :gholdengo: making it so that defog is blocked , a backup plan was needed in case hazards stayed up, especially since two of the 3 pokemon that take hazard damage dont have options for recovery, wish passing felt like the perfect way to keep the hp up on those pokemon even if hazards are up. the second move added to this pokemon was scald to burn physical attackers as well as having a move that targets into :great tusk: .The third move was flip turn for a stab pivot move to easily set up wishes for other pokemon on the team as well as just pivot into a more threatening option. The final move is play rough with tera fairy to both make an immunity to dragon type moves as well as hit harder into meta threats like :dragonite: .
'
:Clodsire:

With access to good special defense and the ability unaware Clodsire felt like the perfect addition to this core. to apply pressure into long term threats like :enamorus: and :raging bolt: the first move is toxic as that can be a long term threat to many of the mons in the tier. second for an attacking move that is stab and can target into mons like :gholdengo: we are of course running earthquake as at least a way to chip down the opposition. third is to support the hazards stacks core of the team we're running stealth rock to target into mons like :lokix: and :corviknight: long term . The final move is to guarantee we have an option for recovery outside outside of :alomomola: , making it so that recover is a necessity. Then to limit the damage of psyshock we've made the tera typing steel.

:Gliscor: :

To finish out the hazard stacks core :Gliscor: is the last pokemon needed to complete the team. With this :gliscor: being phys def, itis able to live from an ivy cudgel from :Ogerpon-wellspring: and an ice spinner from :Great Tusk: to get off a toxic on these two long term threats; especially since this team doesn't have :dondozo: for the unaware physical wall. second to apply long term pressure we're running spikes. To force the other side to deal with said hazards; the attacking move on this guy is knock off as we want the opponent to deal with hazards. Finally to give Gliscor an opportunity to heal as well as wait out the toxic damage if you get it off, the last moveslot is protect.

Team Weaknesses: Jolly :Kingambit: can be a huge threat if it gets off a swords dance before :corviknight: comes in as you basically have to hope that you've chipped it down enough that the rocky helmet can do enough. :Gholdengo: can get a bit threatening if your :goodra-hisui: has been chipped down too much although if its healthy you should be able to beat almost every :gholdengo: set in a 1v1. Finally mixed :enamorus: can also be a bit hard to beat although if you don't tera then :clodsire should beat it 1v1. If you don't save your tera for :Goodra-Hisui: as well then nasty plot tera poison :Hydrapple: can give some trouble.

Anyways I hope that any other fans of :staraptor: and :Goodra-Hisui: enjoy this team as I've wanted to at least see :Staraptor: be used for the longest time. ANyways I hope Y'all have a great day.

:staraptor: is a really unique choice & i like the offensive potential it brings, i've got some critiques tho

:alomomola: -> mixed defense alo would help out against mons like mixed attacking :iron-valiant: as well as being a comfort check to some mons like :walking-wake: in a pinch. You've got phys def :gliscor: and :corviknight: anyways so i feel that mixed def :alomomola: would be fine.

there are also some threats that are super hard to deal with & i think needs some work on the team to be changed:

:ceruledge: this mon is super tough to deal with considering you have no ghost resist and everything gets destroyed by +two tera ghost poltergeist & bitter blade not to mention it has plenty of free set up opportunities from :corviknight: and :alomomola:

:kingambit: tera ghost gambit looks pretty unwinnable imo, best you could do is prob hope for a scald burn and pray since your :corviknight: isnt made to outspeed ada gambit.

:zamazenta: once your :clodsire: gets a defense drop, sub zama can be rough but you probably have to be mindful to preserve tera for either :gliscor: or :alomomola:

team also kinda struggles with hstacks since your only removal is an idef :corviknight: with your main ways of progress being hazard weak and something like a knock :darkrai: or :samurott-hisui: can easily wear down your mons with hazards and attacks.

The :ceruledge: matchup is definitely rough, but part of the reason I added tera fairy to :goodra-Hisui: was to deal with the mixed Valiant set, and I guess that I accidentally uploaded the version with max defense corv instead of 120 speed evs for :kingambit: so the gambit matchup definitely is harder than it needs to be. Thank you for your input its appreciated!

Cool team idea, I think I fought you a few times on ladder today. I hate to say it but I don't think :staraptor: is best suited for stall. Most fast mons on stall builds (common ones on recent teams I've seen are like :walking-wake:, :ogerpon:, :zapdos-galar:, :weavile:) are generally there for knock off support or which I don't think raptor gets or just speed control. Furthermore, with band it's so weak to rocks that you may need to defog your own hazards away limiting your own progress. I think it could fit better on a bulky offense over the place of an :ursaluna: for example.

Of course it's weak to rocks, it dies to a geodude stone edge
