National Dex Monotype Calm Mind Mega Sableye [QC: 2/2][GP: 1/1]

[SET]
Sableye @ Sablenite
Name: Calm Mind (Dark)
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hex / Dark Pulse

[SET COMMENTS]
On offensive Dark teams, Calm Mind Mega Sableye can serve as a sturdy setup sweeper that brings some defensive utility to the table and ignores common anti-setup moves such as Taunt, Encore, and Whirlwind. Additionally, its ability to spread status with Will-O-Wisp enables the team to handle threatening physical attackers like Urshifu-R, Mega Scizor, and Great Tusk. Prankster can be used before Mega Evolving to cripple faster attackers like Mega Lopunny that threaten Mega Sableye and its teammates. For its attacking move, Sableye can choose between Hex or Dark Pulse; Hex does more damage to statused targets, but Dark Pulse has greater base power and nothing is immune to it. Most offensive Dark teams do not run entry hazard removal, so they appreciate Mega Sableye's ability to make opponents think twice before attempting to set hazards. Grimmsnarl is Mega Sableye's best teammate, setting dual screens to provide Mega Sableye with the initial durability increase it needs to start stacking Calm Mind boosts. With screens active, Mega Sableye always dodges being 2HKOed by Mega Lopunny's Close Combat and Meowscarada's Play Rough, and it can use Calm Mind to dodge 2HKOs from threatening special attackers such as Choice Specs Tapu Koko and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, effectively turning them into setup fodder. In return, Grimmsnarl appreciates Mega Sableye's ability to prevent opposing hazard setters like Skarmory and Ting-Lu from stacking hazards in front of it. Hazard-weak teammates such as Flyinium Z Galarian Moltres, Weavile, and Focus Sash Hisuian Samurott hugely appreciate Mega Sableye's ability to prevent Stealth Rocks from being set easily. In return, Galarian Moltres helps handle troublesome Fighting-types like Mega Lopunny and Iron Valiant, while Hisuian Samurott's Ceaseless Edge limits foes from repeatedly switching into Mega Sableye. Revenge killers like Meowscarada, Greninja, and Weavile can help threaten opposing setup sweepers that would overwhelm Mega Sableye like Calm Mind Enamorus and Swords Dance Ceruledge.

On offensive, dual screens, mono-dark teams, Mega Sableye can serve as a sturdy set-up win condition that brings some defensive utility to the table. Mega Sableye's fighting immunity, bug neutrality, and effective status move immunity allows it to enter the battlefield in front of threats that many of its teammates would be threatened by. Hyper Offensive dark teams usually run no hazard removal, so they appreciate Mega Sableye's ability to make opponents think twice before attempting to set hazards. Additionally, the ability to spread status with Will-O-Wisp greatly increases the ability of the team to handle threatening physical attackers like Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, Mega Scizor, and Great Tusk. Prankster can be used before mega evolving to threaten faster attackers -- like Mega Lopunny -- that threaten Mega Sableye and its teammates.

As an answer to the wide array of physical fighting and bug types, Mega Sableye should always be run with maximum investment in physical bulk; Calm Mind can offset its lower special bulk. Mega Sableye's set always requires Calm Mind, Recover, and Will-O-Wisp, but it can choose between Hex and Dark Pulse for its sole attacking move. Hex can do more damage as Mega Sableye spreads status, and the ghost STAB provides some diversity from the array of dark-type moves present on a mono-dark team. However, normal types that don't fear burn can ignore Mega Sableye sets running Hex. Dark Pulse is a more reliable, lower-upside STAB option; it has no immunities, and it delivers more immediate damage against targets that can't be burnt such as Volcarona and Gholdengo.

Mega Sableye only fits on screens teams, so Grimmsnarl is a mandatory partner. Grimmsnarl appreciates Mega Sableye's ability to bounce back Taunt, Encore, and other annoying status moves that are aimed at preventing dual screens from being set up, and Mega Sableye uses Grimmsnarl's screens to get the initial durability increase it needs to start stacking Calm Mind boosts. Hazard-weak teammates such as Galarian Moltres, Weavile, and Focus Sash Hisuian Samurott hugely appreciate Mega Sableye's ability to prevent Stealth Rocks from being set easily. Weavile especially appreciates Mega Sableye's ability to completely wall physically-defensive Body Press users -- like Ferrothorn, Archaludon, or Corviknight -- that switch into Weavile's Triple Axel. Galarian Moltres relies on Mega Sableye to help overwhelm common checks such as Blissey and Hisuian Goodra. In return, Galarian Moltres can handle Volcarona and Mega Lopunny while screens are up. Other teammates, like Hisuian Samurott, Overqwil, or Bisharp, rely on Mega Sableye to prevent their Fighting-type switchins from picking up free revenge kills. Mega Sableye can prevent Spikes set from Hisuian Samurott's Ceaseless Edge from being removed via Rapid Spin. Overqwil has particular synergy with the gem goblin, as Overqwil can -- while screens are up -- switch into and force out many of the strong fairy types such as Tapu Lele and Iron Valiant that threaten Mega Sableye (and everything else on dark teams).

(i would just re-write this and mainly just focus on the screens support and what we can comfortably setup now thanks to the screens support. I think m sab swapping into taunts / encore on a pokemon that has prankster priority + really not much mons are really utilizing encore / taunt is whatever here.) (redundant first sentence + the second sentence out of these belongs more on the teammate section) Additionally, the ability to spread status with Will-O-Wisp greatly increases the ability of the team to handle threatening physical attackers like Urshifu-R, Mega Scizor, and Great Tusk. Prankster can be used before Mega Evolving to cripple faster attackers like Mega Lopunny that threaten Mega Sableye and its teammates. Screens dark Most offensive Dark teams usually run no hazard removal, so they appreciate Mega Sableye's ability to make opponents think twice before attempting to set hazards. (moved sentence to the teammates section) This Mega Sableye set only fits on screens teams, so Grimmsnarl is a mandatory partner. (probably usable outside of them, too; either way, that's implicit from Grimm being the first mention and the selected teammates) Grimmsnarl is Mega Sableye's best teammate, as it allows Mega Sableye to use Grimmsnarl's screens to get the initial durability increase it needs to start stacking Calm Mind boosts. With screens active, Mega Sableye always dodges a 2HKO from Mega Lopunny's Close Combat and Choice Band Meowscarada's Play Rough, as Mega Sableye threatens both with burns. (mentioned earlier in the text) and it can use to Calm Mind to dodge a 2HKO from threatening special attackers such as Choice Specs Tapu Koko and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, effectively turning them into setup fodder. Behind Reflect, Mega Sableye always dodges a 2HKO from Mega Lopunny's Close Combat and Choice Band Meowscarada's Play Rough as Mega Sableye threatens both with burns. (merged both screens sentences into one) In return, Grimmsnarl appreciates Mega Sableye's ability to prevent opposing hazard setters like Skarmory or Ting-Lu from stacking hazards in front of Grimmsnarl it. (switched sentence order, as it makes more sense to justify why Grimm helps msab first, then the opposite direction) If screens are not active, Mega Sableye can still use Calm Mind to 1v1 special attackers like Choice Specs Greninja lacking Hydro Pump, Iron Moth, or Kyurem. Hazard-weak teammates such as Flyinium Z Galarian Moltres, Weavile, and Focus Sash Hisuian Samurott hugely appreciate Mega Sableye's ability to prevent Stealth Rocks from being set easily. In return, Galarian Moltres helps handle troublesome Fighting-types like Mega Lopunny or Iron Valiant, and Hisuian Samurott's Ceaseless Edge limits fairy type foes from repeatedly switching into Mega Sableye. Weavile, as a fast physical attacker, Revenge killers like Meowscarada, Greninja, and Weavile can help threaten opposing setup sweepers that would overwhelm Mega Sableye like Calm Mind Enamorus or Swords Dance Ceruledge.

On offensive Dark teams, Calm Mind Mega Sableye can serve as a sturdy set-up win condition setup sweeper ("win condition" refers to a condition where a match can be won, and can never refer to a Pokemon) that brings some defensive utility to the table and ignores common anti-setup moves such as Taunt, Encore, and Whirlwind. Additionally, the its ability to spread status with Will-O-Wisp greatly increases enables (changed to prevent repetition of "...abillity to..." within the same sentence) the ability of the team to handle threatening physical attackers like Urshifu-R, Mega Scizor, and Great Tusk. Prankster can be used before Mega Evolving to cripple faster attackers like Mega Lopunny that threaten Mega Sableye and its teammates. For its attacking move, Sableye can choose from between ("choose from" is typically used when there's more than two items; "choose between" is better suited here) Hex or Dark Pulse; Hex does more damage to statused targets, but Dark Pulse has no immunities a greater base power and higher base power nothing is immune to it. (reworded, "greater" is better when comparing numbers (in this case, base power) and the move itself does not have immunities) Most offensive Dark teams usually do not run no entry hazard removal, so they appreciate Mega Sableye's ability to make opponents think twice before attempting to set hazards. Grimmsnarl is Mega Sableye's best teammate, as it allows Mega Sableye setting dual screens to use Grimmsnarl's screens to get provide Mega Sableye with the initial durability increase boost it needs to start stacking Calm Mind boosts. implemented except for the above phrase -- I reworded to "initial durability boost it needs to start stacking Calm Minds" to avoid saying boost twice back to back. is that ok?
as a general rule you shouldn't be pluralising moves, so "Calm Minds" is a no

feel free to change the first "boost" back to "increase"; it read a bit weird at first but in retrospect it looks fine as-is. mb for the confusion
