A year ago, I saw a Youtube video posted by Haydunn about Power Trip Incineroar. Ever since then, I decided to bring it to OU because I've seen weirder things reach top of the OU ladder and also because it's funny that Incineroar is really good in Doubles but not good in OU. Here is a team I created to try to reach high ladder with Incineroar. However, I am not good at team building, so any advice would be appreciated.
Lackadaisy (Incineroar) (M) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Power Trip
- Drain Punch
- Flame Charge
Incineroar is the featured shitmon and the team is built around it. The gameplan is to set up with Bulk Up and Flame Charge and then (hopefully behind screens) take a super effective attack, which activates Weakness Policy. Power Trip is a 20 base power Dark type move that increases by 20 power per stat boost. Assuming Incineroar activated Weakness Policy (+2 Attack and +2 Special Attack) and managed to set up a Bulk Up (+1 Attack and +1 Defense) and used Flame Charge (+1 speed) once, that would get Power Trip to be a 160 base power move off of Incineroar's decent 115 attack stat.
Dr Squatch (Grimmsnarl) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Spirit Break
- Parting Shot
Grimmsnarl is used to set up screens and safely pivot Incineroar into the battle with Parting Shot. Grimmsnarl has Spirit Break as its only attacking move as Grimmsnarl matches up decently into Raging Bolt. Spirit Break always lowers the target's special attack by 1, further ensuring Incineroar can set up in front of it.
Meg (Magnezone) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Substitute
I noticed that the team struggles with Corviknight and Kingambit when Incineroar is not set up. A niche but well known answer check to them is Probopass. However, Corviknight's Body Press does a lot and Tera Ghost does help, but that would use to Tera. Probopass' special attack stat is 75, so Corviknight will live a Thunderbolt. A workaround is Magnezone. It does have lower Defense, but a higher Speed, HP and Special Attack. Magnezone is already slower than Corviknight, but Corviknight can't kill it with Body Press. Corviknight takes a lot from Thunderbolt from a 130 Sepcial Attack stat and can set up with Iron Defense in front of it, which will kill Kingambit with Body Press.
P. Squiddy (Tentacruel) (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Liquid Ooze
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Knock Off
- Surf
- Sludge Bomb
This is the same set used by in minecraft. Tentacruel is used to outspeed Great Tusk and kill it with Surf, as my team does struggle a bit with Tusk. Base 100 Speed is good in OU, outspeeding things like Great Tusk (without Booster Energy), Landorus, Garganacl, Glimmora and other common leads. Assault Vest is not needed, as an offensive mon with no recovery would not need an item to boost Special Defense when it already has good Special Defense.
Farallah (Hoopa-Unbound) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Magician
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Psychic Noise
- Knock Off
- Drain Punch
- Gunk Shot
My team struggles against stall, so I put a stall breaker I have experience with on my team. Psychic Noise and Knock Off off 434 Special attack and 356 Attack (after nature, Evs and Ivs) hurts a lot and even without stall, it matches up well into many Special Attackers, like Dragapult, Iron Crown, Raging Bolt, Iron Valiant, Zapdos and many others, with most of the Special Bulk coming from the Assault Vest item.
Baltimore (Corviknight) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Mirror Armor
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Defense
- Roost
- Body Press
- Brave Bird
I always struggle with finding the 6th mon for my team, but I've found that Corviknight works well here. It matches up well into Great Tusk, Excadrill, Ogerpon and other Physical Attackers. Brave Bird is to nail Ogerpon with big damage and Iron Defense is used to further boost up Physical Defense to make sure that Physical Attackers are not a threat. Roost is to recover health and to lose the electric type weakness, making the matchup with Raging Bolt very risky but winnable if the stars align.
