[SET COMMENTS]
Due to Hydreigon's wonderful movepool, terrifying Special Attack stat, and useful ability, it's a great wallbreaker on Dark teams and a huge asset in the Steel, Poison, Ground, and Water matchups. Draco Meteor, after a Nasty Plot, removes threats like Urshifu-R, Archaludon, and non-Choice Scarf Great Tusk. Dark Pulse is a great alternative due to its accuracy, good Base Power, and synergy with Flamethrower or Earth Power, terrorizing Steel teams. Flamethrower hits Steel-types like Corviknight, Scizor, and Air Balloon Iron Treads; however, Earth Power deals with Hisuian Goodra, non-Air Balloon Heatran, Toxapex, and Alolan Muk. Substitute raises Hydreigon's potency as a wallbreaker, providing safety in front of passive Pokemon like Amoonguss, Klefki, and Toxapex as well as putting lots of pressure on more offensive types like Ground and opposing Dark teams. Alternatively, Taunt prevents Hydreigon from being phazed by Ting-Lu's and Swampert's Whirlwind and Empoleon's Roar as well as blocking Blissey and Unaware Clodsire from using recovery moves. Dark Pulse may also be used in the final moveslot to have both STAB moves, but Substitute and Taunt give Hydreigon more setup opportunities.

Sableye provides a Fighting-type immunity and Will-O-Wisp support, threatening Choice Scarf Great Tusk, Sneasler, and Gallade. Meowscarada answers walls like Swampert and Gastrodon while also providing U-turn and Knock Off support. Furthermore, using a Choice Scarf, Meowscarada threatens faster targets such as Flutter Mane, Dragapult, and Darkrai. In return, Hydreigon checks Skarmory, Archaludon, and Toxapex for Meowscarada. Choice Specs Greninja combats Unaware Clodsire, Primarina, and the Ogerpon formes. Greninja and Hydreigon share checks in specially defensive Corviknight, Hisuian Goodra, and Empoleon, with both appreciating each other wearing them down. Bisharp checks Fairy-types like Hatterene and Flutter Mane while also picking off faster threats like Dragapult, Spectrier, and Iron Boulder via Sucker Punch. Bisharp values Hydreigon removing roadblocks like Great Tusk and Urshifu-R. Ting-Lu provides entry hazards and phazing with Whirlwind to wear down defensive checks while also pressuring Hisuian Goodra and Heatran. Alolan Muk is an additional asset in the Fairy and Dragon matchups, taking on Enamorus, Iron Valiant, Flutter Mane, Latios, and Choice Specs Dragapult. Assault Vest Hoopa-U blanket checks special attackers such as Hisuian Zoroark, Heatran, and Articuno, provides Knock Off support, and trades hits with Flutter Mane, OHKOing it in return. Hisuian Samurott sets up Spikes via Ceaseless Edge and removes Hisuian Goodra, Heatran, and Ting-Lu. In return, Hydreigon threatens physical walls like Toxapex, Great Tusk, and Skarmory.

Nasty Plot Hydreigon may use Flash Cannon to hit Fairy-types such as Iron Valiant, Enamorus, and Hatterene; however, Hydreigon has to be behind a Substitute to use it against the former two as they outpace Hydreigon and threaten it back with an OHKO. Focus Blast is an option to deal more damage to Ting-Lu while still threatening Hisuian Goodra and Heatran, but Earth Power and Flamethrower have greater consistency and more super effective targets.

Alternatively, Taunt prevents Ting-Lu, Swampert, and Empoleon from phazing Hydreigon with Whirlwind and Roar, respectively, as well as preventing Blissey and Unaware Clodsire from recovering health.
