National Dex Monotype has suffered too much power creep, which led us to ban most of the offending Pokémon, no matter how cute they were.

Even if Chien-Pao is the goodest cat, when it’s coming into your home alongside piles of Dragon and Flying teams, you know it’s time for it to spend some time with Pokémon of its own level (Ubers). Dragapult and Kartana were too strong on their respective types, and Z-Moves made their checks feel more like maybe checks. It was fun blowing up Heatran and bullying stall Water, though.

Anyway, the same thing happened to Ogerpon-Hearthflame. Even though deleting Steel-types is arguably a net positive for the tier, it still broke every semblance of balance teams in NDM. The same goes for Annihilape, whose bulk made Rage Fist effective enough for players to emulate the move against their own (device's) screens.

Basically, these Pokémon were problematic because they were too strong on one of their other types. Which makes us wonder: is there a Pokémon that’s only single-typed, so we wouldn’t have to worry about it breaking other types? Some types have suffered enough from the tyranny of their Pokémon’s secondary typing, after all.

:arceus-bug: :arceus-fire: :arceus-fighting: :arceus-ice: :arceus-ghost: :arceus-grass:
Such a Pokémon does exist; The god of Pokémon himself, coming to save these types.

Starting today, Arceus-Ice, Arceus-Fighting, Arceus-Fire, Arceus-Ghost, Arceus-Grass, and Arceus-Bug will be legal in National Dex Monotype!

372 Speed isn’t actually that impressive these days, as these threats are easily revenge-killed by Choice Scarf users and Mega Pokémon, and they aren’t immune to hazards (unlike some setup sweepers like Dragonite with the broken Roost + Multiscale + Boots combo). Yes, these forms can hold Z-Moves, but only for their own types so there are no nasty surprises like Arceus-Bug suddenly OHKOing Corviknight.

Common Pokémon like Mega Aerodactyl, Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, Choice Band Excadrill in sand, Choice Scarf Meowscarada, and Alolan Raichu with a Z-Move can all readily OHKO offensive Arceus variants with minimal chip. Meanwhile, defensive sets suffer from four-moveslot syndrome, they’re prone to being worn down by threats like Toxapex or Gliscor if they lack Refresh, and they must choose between being setup fodder or sacrificing utility by dropping Will-O-Wisp or Defog.

Even offensive variants face dilemmas in move selection. For example, Arceus-Fire can’t break Steel teams with Air Balloon Heatran if it’s only running Flare Blitz + Earthquake. Because Steel is balanced like that, LOL.

What about the other types? Will other Arceus formes be unbanned?

…Do you really want a meta where Steel, Dragon, and Fairy become even more broken with Arceus? These types are already too powerful, we’re leveling the playing field by not adding Arceus to them. Also this doesn't break type clause since Arceus-Ice isnt the same mon as Arceus-Steel just as Ogerpon-Hearthflame isnt Ogerpon-Wellspring.

As this is a huge change and was just announced after the week ended, tours like NDMPL and Stellar Cup will be exempt from this update for this week. Please play these tours on SmogTours in the meantime to avoid complications.

Tagging dhelmise and Marty to unban Arceus-Ice, Arceus-Fighting, Arceus-Fire, Arceus-Ghost, Arceus-Grass, and Arceus-Bug in National Dex Monotype. Thank you in advance!

while i greatly appreciate the intelligence and foresight taken with such action, and entirely agree, i fear arceus-ice, fire and bug are all greatly crippled by stealth rocks to the point that they will not just be balanced but entirely unviable. its for this reason that i propose

BAN STEALTH ROCKS

as this will entirely solve the issue of the arceus types being downright dogshit in the tier, as with rocks in the tier even sunkern can ohko arceus ice with ease (252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Sunkern Weather Ball (100 BP Fire) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Arceus-Ice in Sun: 306-362 (80.3 - 95%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock), and when your 120/120 bulk mon is dying with ease to one of the premium offensive threats in the tier then you know you need to take some proper action.

Hm... it's not April 1 yet, must be real.

Ever thought that Pult blowing up a check then threatening with a sweep was too much? How about we slap ridiculously high bulk to the mix and far better coverage to let it pick its checks? Flying is already quite decent as is and certainly didn't need this buff.

Ever thought that Piloswine was a mid wall? How about we grant Ice a Pokemon that forces at worst a trade unless they run specific answers exclusive to few types like Rotom-Wash, Mantine, M-Charizard Y or Moltres? Having Thunderbolt, Power Gem, and Energy Ball to play around them anyways does not help in any case.

:sv/arceus-fighting:
Arceus-Fighting @ Fist Plate
Ability: Multitype

Have fun trying to proactively act against this and being punished if guessing the set incorrectly.

:sv/arceus-fire:

Semi Extreme Killer or just yet another bulky CM sweeper, fun!

:sv/arceus-ghost:

Ability: Multitype
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature

Pult except it has priority and better setup, what could possibly go wrong?

:sv/arceus-grass:
Arceus-Grass @ Meadow Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Judgment
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Calm Mind

TBH this may be among the worst Arceus formes of the bunch as it does not directly address any of the problems Grass teams have, however, it can still brute force past usual checks with colorful coverage and bloated stats.

:sv/arceus-bug:
Arceus-Bug @ Insect Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Judgment
- Earth Power
- Recover
- Calm Mind

Arceus-Bug @ Insect Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 248 HP / 156 Def / 104 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock / Thunder Wave / Will-O-Wisp
- Earth Power
- Recover

Being weak to Stealth Rock and having minimal reason to use STAB (and by extension making the item slot a waste bar absorbing Knock Off and legality), this is the worst of the bunch, all of that said, the set variability is still concerning, and more offensive teams are still forced to trade against this per the bloated stats.

TBH with this power level spike I can't help but wonder if stuff like Kingambit, Mega Mawile, Magearna, and Naganadel could be freed while we're at it.
