Pokemon Legends: Z-A Combat/PVP Discussion Thread

Is anyone else thinking about skipping this season? There isn't much incentive to grind through it this time. I have all the stones from previous seasons and the 3 titles that I care about, so...

Mega Chomp Z is a monster this season. Went with Chomp/Mage/Skarm, mostly firsts, often with 10+ kos. The double steel weakness caught me out a few times, I was initially worried about a Golisopod weakness but barely any showed up, and even fewer were able to Mega, making them easy Tbolt targets. Quite a few special Chomp but it gets smashed 1v1 by physical.

To be honest, I can't really bother writing up my experience climbing up the ladder. Beyond season 8's heavy restrictions, personal issues with my internet on top of Z-A's bad-latency issues and the increasingly dull luster of "new casual Pokemon multiplayer mode" due to "play chicken / third party" being optimal have made it difficult to find enjoyment playing. I'm most likely planning to just hold out for the Season Veteran title then pack up.

LO Pod is back :psysly:

After my hiatus during S7 and 8 I'm glad to be able to play S4 again actually. Imagine we get a S5 rerun for some more Volcanion use and Hoopa-U testing afterwards, would be nice.

Reached rank A this morning, using the following team that only lost 3 times, and won 1st place for the rest:

Marowak @ Thick Club
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bonemerang
- Stone Edge
- Thunder Punch

Armarouge @ Focus Sash
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Meteor Beam
- Heat Wave
- Psychic
- Solar Beam

Golisopod @ Life Orb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- First Impression
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Leech Life

This was the perfect combination of defensive and offensive synergy. It's was great to run Mega-less again!

Golisopod was easily the star of the show. I missed Life Orb Pod, cheesed out so many wins with opportunistic play, +fimping all the weakened targets. Marowak was also really fun and served a great lead that came with immediate power thanks to Thick Club, and Bonemerang was ideal for sash users and lead Amph. I thought about taking Thunder Punch off for Earthquake, but then I'd run into an ideal Thunder Punch target on ladder, and just kept it on. It was also a quick finishing move vs weakened mons, which helped a lot. Sash Arma did Sash Arma things. People have forgotten about +Solar Arma and I didn't run into a single sash Swampert, all Mega Pert on my climb.

Saw quite a few regular Mega Garchomp at the upper ranks. Not surprised, it's fast and has Ground STAB unlike Chomp Z.

Overall, very fun run and easily my best-performing season. It was great to bully everyone with LO Pod again. The climb to A only took an hour and a half.
