Tournament Random Battles Extension League - PLAYOFFS (WON BY TTARS!)

I AINT HEAR NO BELL!

Wait... there was a bell? Like really? Oh.

Big shout to articoo for rescheduling this even though the finals were realistically already over. Big props for that.

Won 2-1 in the most serious RBEL match (idk if the replays will keep the april fools sprites down the line but they were there)

Here I am with my final post of this tournament, where I am going to give a shout-out and thank all the people who made this an unforgettable season for our team. There are two parts: the second part is for icy, drift and all the players while the first one is for all the helpers, supporters and those who played a role in this edition of Rbel as a whole.

--- Part 1 ---
:Tyranitar: Hosts and Teams :Tyranitar:
First and foremost, thanks to Bobo and Pulse for another smoothly run edition of Rbel. Everyone loves the event for its laidback nature: it really is the perfect opportunity to improve without having to bear the excessive, unhealthy pressure to get results. This year you even turned the Rbel server into a cozy place open to the players and I'd say that it worked out very well! Thanks for all the hard work, much appreciated :)
I hope I don't sound fake but props to all the managers for an amazingly close and competitive season. Talking to different players gave me the impression that pretty much every team had managers that were active and committed to foster a good environment in their servers. No matter the final record, if your players enjoyed the experience, if they are going to join future rands tournaments and improve more and more, that's a great result in itself you should be proud of. Hats off in particular to team Alakazam for reaching the final. As I already said in the server, getting #2 seed and qualifying for the finals while slotting a good amount of proper newcomers is a great achievement, made even more important by the nice vibes your team seemed to have.

:Tyranitar: Helpers :Tyranitar:
A big thank you for all the people we have contacted in order to gather feedback that made our lives way easier while preparing for the draft. Here are some names (and sorry if I forgot anyone!):
- Jordy004 for Draft
- R1C3M4N for NatDex
- Separation and Indulge in dreams for chinese players
- virae and YBW for Gen 1 and for being kind enough to help us with tryouts
- FreyaknightVGC and Sapphire for doubles
- sunsets for some tier advice
- Nudepantsman for Hackmons Cup

:Tyranitar: Supporters :Tyranitar:
A big thank you to all the friends who supported me or the team during the season, asking how we were doing and checking on me while things weren't going too fancy.
Last but not least, a message to all the people of who contribute to make ttarcord a lively, chaotic but also cozy place. This journey started 2 years ago and those past seasons ended in disappointment after such great runs. Now it's finally time to celebrate because this win is for you. For us.
Therefore, time to ping everyone >:)

--- Part 2 ---

:Tyranitar: The team :Tyranitar:
IcyPenguin2 and drifttrick > it's a bit of a repetition of what I already said in private but it was a pleasure to team up with you guys. You have been extremely helpful both in draft prep and during the tour to help review matches, train our players and keep a good team atmosphere when things looked quite bleak and all of this despite being busy with your studies.
I am happy to had a successful runback with icy after the heartbreak of last season and I am glad I got to know drifttrick better during these months. Probably the two best rands players coming out of Rbel I from team Tyranitar, it was meant to be you to take the team on top for real.

Fad IV > as soon as me and icy saw you signed up, we quickly agreed you were the best Gen 9 player of the pool and you would become our first round pick given the opportunity. To borrow a comment I saw regarding LaMelo Ball, you play "like you have airpods on". Multitasking, games not being linked, blitzing through your moves, using the alt "Evilfran" etc. were all part of the experience but I would gladly do it again and I am not saying this just because of your 7-2 record. It's mostly because I don't know if I have ever seen a young player who was as good as you are in rands outside of maybe JJ.
The highlight of your season is definitely the endgame of G3 of the semifinal vs Raiyan, which is probably THE match of our season. I just knew there was simply no way we were going to lose the semifinal after that masterclass.
You are easily Rbtt material and I want to hope everyone knows it at this point, so it's totally up to you to sign up next year. From my behalf, I will always be grateful for being a key piece in this title run.

goldmason > drafting you round 2 felt like a reasonable move to recreate the Midwest connection with my co-managers and also because we all knew how excited you were at the idea of playing in another rands team tournament. Your final record might not be fully satisfying but boy, did you lock in at the perfect time! The second game against Fantos led the comeback in the finals and it was quite hype to see Shuckle carrying us to a win. I wish we had more opportunities to interact (not your fault, you are the busiest individual on the website lol) but it was cool to talk to you in vc last Sunday. I am glad to see your enthusiasm and commitment to rands and now it's time for you to help Midwest in Wcor :p

Inazuma-Fulgur > three years ago, you were one of the people who welcomed me in Pokevin's server, which was probably the first real pokemon community I was apart of. For all the nice memories I have about the server, it's very cool and fitting to win my first team tournament with you. After Rbel I and Wcor 2024, I admit I had lost track of your progress as a Gen 1 player but our trusted "sources" unanimously agreed you were making a name for yourself in that community. It's abundantely clear they were right since you topped the pool with an amazing 7-2 record. You also gave us the longest set ever seen in Rbel with the best of 11 vs Cake that kept us watching and chatting for way more than one hour of immaculate gaming. Good player that seamlessly adapted to the server's atmosphere, between Wordle and the abuse of jokes directed at me, this breakout tournament you should definitely allow you to be in Rbtt next year, where I am sure you'll show everyone why you were one of the MVPs of this season.

Incognition > I joked that you are the british version of Fragments because I can't fathom how you dabble in so many tours at the same time ahah. We wanted to bet on you because your profile was pretty much perfect for Rbel: relatively new player who had just started in rands and who had already gotten some nice results. I am happy we had you on the team because you are a lovely guy (as seen in your final post) and you always tried to stay active despite the aforementioned commitments. I really think that joining all the events of the Circuit like you are doing right now will help you get more accustomed to rands and improve as a player. You are certainly skilled and capable of making plays, you just need more polish. Looking forward to stalking spectating many more games of you on Smogtours :p

Irene > your record sadly reflects a mistake in our preparation of the draft, so I apologize for that. You still gave Gen 8 a shot without complaints and that was definitely appreciated. In hindsight, our insane turnaround of the season started thanks to your win in week 5 against Zams so I hope your future managers won't make the same mistake we did and they will give you a Gen 6 starter spot right away :p

Scizor Boladão > my cool manager in LJDA last year, I was happy to get the chance to team up with you once again! Another victim of the classic, initially suboptimal lineups of team Tyranitar, you probably had the most random experience in this tournament, playing Gen 5, 2 and, finally, your preferred format of Gen 7. If we were to give a "good soldier" award, it would probably go to you and it's only fitting you got a great win in finals to reward your flexibility. Most importantly, back to back Rbel titles for you!

Thanos > as a huge fan of trivia, I am so glad we won so I can finally say you are very likely to be the first person to win the same team tournament three times in a row under three different names! Another victim of the "big shuffling", you started in Gen 7 and were performing well enough. Then you gave us your full availability to play Gen 8, which allowed us to steady the ship. You took opportunities to train with us and got to #1 on the ladder, showing the kind of mentality every manager would love to see from their players. I liked teaming up with you in LJDA last year and it was nice to see you involved in the game discussion for most of our matches this season. I didn't understand the namechange at first but 3/3 in Rbel definitely shows that Thanos is indeed inevitable.

chiefbeef1234 > when drifttrick pointed out you were still available, we realized it was a great opportunity to draft what we thought was going to be the best Gen 9 core of the tournament. The combined records of you and Aurester show that our choices were spot. We are obviously happy with your performances, yet we are fully aware you wanted to do more. To do more, to take the next step and be in Rbtt next year, I think you really don't need to change much because it's clear your feel for the game is already quite good. I'd love to see you improve even more and if that were to happen under our guidance, even better! In the meantime, we'll enjoy the usual spam of :vous: and the horse emojis because we can't get enough of those :p

Django > one of the many brits we had on the team, most of your series in Gen 2 ended up being nailbiters that, understandably, took a toll on you. I hope Gen 4 was more bearable but it's clear that the season could have been less "volatile". Thanks for taking the burden of playing GSC for a few weeks and for listening to me rambling about Robot Wars and its cancellation. Hope to see you in Wcor and good luck in all the real and fake Gen 4 tiers you play!

ElectraineHeart > the logic behind your pick was the same we used for Incognition: someone who is a tier main but who was branching out to rands and already had some success (it was CCC but it was a good season nonetheless). We know the talent is obviously there but sometimes even a wacky format like rands requires some time before getting fully acclimated to. Despite being on the bench during the second part of the season, you deserve a very big thank you for offering to play matches with your teammates, in particular Gen 8 with Thanos. You were definitely a good team presence and I hope to see you joining future rands events!

CaptainKirby > Kirby, you are hands down one of the nicest people I had the pleasure to share a team with. You already know I thought your tryout was fine but not exactly impressive. Luckily for me, I suck at doubles and Icy took good care of that pool because he was firmly convinced you had a great sense of positioning. You finished with a superb 5-2 record that is absolutely deserved for all the effort you put into training, both on the ladder and in friendlies against the people of the server. Such record for a late pick would be enough to show how valuable you were but as I said above, it was even more valuable to have Kirby, the person, on the team. You have always been an active and supportive teammate and having you in our voice calls (I think watching together that cursed Stallion vs Kurt Kappa set counts as a bonding experience lol) allowed us to know you even better and enjoy your presence. I really hope and believe you'll stick around so cya soon :)

Akaru Kokuyo > one of the best DOU players out there, who we obviously drafted for randdubs but somehow managed to play a Gen 6 set for us too! Your record is so unfortunate because your doubles sets went down to the wire against tough opponents. Even if it was a bit limited, I hope you enjoyed the experience with the format because we have no doubts you can start dominating randdubs too if you want!

passionfruit_fan > at the end of our tryout games, I was already seriously thinking about drafting you at least as a sub for a bunch of reasons: you obviously played well and from our conversations, I realized you were a friendly guy, easy to approach and eager to take part in his first rands tournament. One of my regrets for this season is fielding you only once but between the rocky start of the team and our Gen 9 core's solid performances throughout the season, we preferred to play it safe. Similarly to Kirby, I think and hope you'll remain to hang out in ttarcord so I can make amends and help you continue your training arc :)

DD Joe > this rollercoaster of a season was totally meant to finish with your set. For those who don't know, Joe was picked as a mid-season replacement and we used him to fill the Gen 4/2 slot in alternation with Django. Even if there were some moments of... uhm... suboptimal scheduling, you did play well and showed why you deserved a spot in Rbel all along. On a personal note, Toxicroak is a very good choice for a favorite pokemon :toxicroak:

Sylveesnom and Emkatt > I wanted to talk about these two together and for last because I have a story to tell, a story that shows how certain adventures can be full of coincidences and unexpected events.
Let's return to last year, on the day of the draft. Me and icy were pretty happy about our team but later in the day, Emkatt appeared in the randbats room, showing his sadness for not being drafted. I realized I had completely forgotten about him and I felt bad because I did tell him he was basically guaranteed a spot in Rbel thanks to his ladder records. In agreement with icy and Poat, we invited him in Ttarcord as a cheerleader, hoping to give him a chance to live the atmosphere of a team tour, albeit indirectly. It turned out to be an excellent choice as he quickly became an integral part of the server. Him and Drowsy were the ones to start the first vc of the season, a tradition that continues to this day and that represents one of the reason why I enjoy my time in the server. And he was also there to watch the last game of last season, the Mystery Box trio where we lost to Sylvee in a pretty unforgettable (for all the wrong reasons lol) set.
In a funny twist of events, this year we sniped our "enemies" Kangas twice and got both players on our team. Drafting Emkatt was the golden opportunity to have someone who had been with us for a whole year and whose growth we saw closely, month after month.
On the other end, Sylvee did have good experience and results in Hackmons, so we were pretty convinced she could do well as our starter. Once again, I apologize to you for not fully understanding that wanting to be on Kangas was more than just a whim. Despite what happened in the weeks before Rbel and the "kidnapping", you put a lot of effort into your games and you are rightfully this team's MVP with a crazy 8-1 record in Hackmons that I hope will help you get a spot in Rbtt next year. Most importantly, I hope this experience served as a reminder of what Pokemon should be about. We keep competing against others but especially against ourselves and our aspirations, fears and failures, often forgetting this is just a game. This website is a great opportunity to have fun and meet cool people without having to momentarily think about what is going on "outside". I believe being able to balance all of this is the key to find true enjoyment while playing and getting good results should be the natural consequence.

There is one last thing I'd like to add and that I think is the perfect way to end the post and the season. Here is a message I sent in the server on New Year's Eve and this is Emkatt's reply. It seems like we were right, what do you think?
I am still not doing particularly well right now but this win is the closing of a circle and I am glad I will always be able to look back at this thread and see that I finally managed to accomplish something I really wanted.
