this SPL season probably had some of the worst teams I ever made TBH. however, it's very important to me personally to challenge the meta and see what I can get away with. probably my favorite part about building & pokemon! here are some mons that I really enjoyed bringing:
extreme sleeper pick, but it does require a lot of support around it. my team had a spinner, zapdos for static fishes on u turn, and other mons to surround Zarude and best assist it. I prefer this set >>> boots Synth bc it lets me aggressively Tera and trade into status mons such as the birds, dragapult, etc. offensive psychic types aren't too common and you play around em with the rest of your team or pre-tera Zarude. it has insane natural bulk and applies a ton of presh with two powerful stabs + great healing (status + recovery)
I.. really wanted to make this work LOL. ever since I saw LpZ use it, I ran calcs and realized Tera Normal QA ohkos almost every offensive steel resist including Woger, Bulky Cinderace, Iron Moth, etc. my first game it unfortunately got tbolt full para'd after taking an LO psycho boost, and my second game I was extremely goobed by webs.
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Scizor Quick Attack vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Iron Moth: 282-333 (93.6 - 110.6%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO this being a favorable roll is pretty insane. I'm a big fan of the scizor set but it probably needs to be on complete HO
I spammed the hell out of this pult set in SPL and it's definitely its best set to me. ridiculously powerful and if Tera Blast gets banned I'll be most sad to lose this. no tanky fairy type can switch into CB pult, so every time its in is either a free giga stab ghost attack or you scare them out and get free momentum. mono-dark type gambit on teams and ting lu is very easy to take advantage of with u turn and then you can clean the game up :fire: super oppressive set when played right. I'm sure people who've ran mono-steel scarf ghold have felt the absolute pain of switching into CB darts
and finally
there were many times where I realized how weak my team was to special kyu or iron moth or something and I just decided.. fuckit. AV Ttar. before bpress was being spammed on my patented AV Kyurem, this was a really solid trade machine into Kyu teams. I think it still has a strong niche with hard knocks and constant sand chip, but you definitely have to be wary of random fighting coverage on stuff. this thing will destroy those iron moth offenses and make them play 5v6
overall, I'm of course disappointed in my 4-4 record. that's just how it goes, though. just gotta invest the effort and time I'm capable of and it's apparent that the time especially decreases with each tour .. regardless, I'm looking forward to how the test shapes out and Gen 9 OU will forever be my favorite no matter what. let's see what happens?
