XY NU I call it antimeta, if there is a meta.

Hello guys and gals! I am Soyacan and have been playing competitive Pokemon for about two years now. This team that I made is consisted of some of my favorite mons and I love it! So far, its been through a good amount of changing and I think this is the best it's ever been. The coverage is mediocre, but I've been doing fine with it. Oh yeah, this is my first RMT btw.
Team History:
Originally, the team was Chatot, Shiftry, Magmortar, Hypno, Weezing, and Marowak. Then Shiftry was raised to RU, so I decided to try out Leavanny instead, and switching Hypno (my special wall) for Mantine because it has Defog. Along with this change, I also decided to try out Pyroar instead of Magmortar, but found it a bit less effective and swapped back. After a bit, I decided that Leavanny and Mantine weren't working out too well so I swapped them for an offensive-ish Drifblim (who also gets defog) and a Musharna. Since I gained another special user with Drifblim, I swapped Magmortar for Rapidash. However, I felt Drifblim wasn't having as big of an impact on the game as I would have liked it to, so I swapped it out for Unfezant, and Weezing for Sandslash (Weezing is one of my favorite mons). This change allowed me to bring Magmortar back and also replace Marowak (since I got Sandslash) with Kecleon (surprise!).

Now for the team:

Chatot.gif

Chatot @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Chatter
- Boomburst
- Substitute
- Encore

Chatot is hands down my favorite mon and is AMAZING (which is super cool). He has a nice base special attack and speed stat, which allows this set to work. Chatter has a 100% confuse rate (which is hated by alot of people, but that's not going to stop me from using my favorite mon), and Boomburst hits like a truck. Both of them are sound-based moves, so they go through Substitute. Speaking of Substitute...I usually (more like always) lead with Chatot, as he can outspeed most other generic leads out there (besides accelgore, but I'll get to him). First thing I do is set up Substitute if they are slower than me or if they lead with Accelgore, if they lead with a faster mon, I switch out. If I get the Substitute up and they set up rocks or spikes, a simple encore will force them to switch out and the next pokemon will get hit by a Chatter. The confusion really helps keep the Substitute up, allowing Chatot to survive for so long. If there are pretty much no good switch ins to a mon, my substitute is down and if I put one up it will be destroyed, I just gamble on a Chatter and hope that confusion will proc. If it does, I can hopefully set up a sub and Boomburst the thing down, if not, then oh well. Like I said, it's a gamble. Pokemon with Soundproof kinda counter Chatot. If I can get a free switch in on a pokemon slower than me, then I will usually bring in Chatot. I'm dead serious though, this set can wreck everything. I used to use Chatot in UU (a few months ago, around March or something) and it still worked wonders. Don't underestimate this songbird.
Don't believe me? Here is Chatot wrecking in UU: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-151348678

pokemon-sandslash_00418228.png

Sandslash @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Sandslash is a nice physical wall for the team, plus he looks cool :D My team is relatively weak to Stealth Rocks (3/6) so Rapid Spin helps clear that up. EdgeQuake gives nice coverage, also deals with those occasional Steel types in this tier that give Chatot kind of a problem. He also provides my team with a rock setter, which is helpful in baiting out mons with Defog/Rapid spin that I might want to get rid of quickly.

250px-467Magmortar.png

Magmortar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Flamethrower
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt

ScarfMortar was one of the original members of the team, was taken out once, and quickly rehired. He does hit job near flawlessly (damn Focus Blast misses), and is a great revenge killer. Most believe that this thing is SLOW, and decide to attack first and try to kill it off. In reality though, it has a base speed stat of 83, and when paired with 252 evs and a Choice Scarf, the only other thing in the tier that can outspeed it are other scarf-wearers and a max speed Accelgore, who is usually taken care of by Chatot. Flamethrower is STAB, Thunderbolt is mostly for prediction water switches, and the last two are nice moves Magmortar has for coverage.

pokemans_352.gif

Kecleon @ Assault Vest
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Fake Out
- Power-Up Punch
- Shadow Sneak

Oh jeez that picture is big but I like it so I'm keeping it (retro) :D Anyways, Kecleon is like a little devil. Nobody ever sees him coming (cause he's a chameleon and a ninja at the same time). He has a base 120 Special Defense stat, so Assault vest works nicely here, and Protean gives it STAB on everything! Kecleon is INCREDIBLE late game, when most of the mons are worn down. One or two Power-Up Punches and then some priority moves can easily clean up. The priority moves are also nice for predicting opponents moves and then using Protean to switch types and resist it.

Musharna_by_arkeis_pokemon.png

Musharna @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Toxic
- Protect
- Moonlight

When I first saw Musharna, I kind of fell in love with her, I mean, look at that elephant thing with the pink trail of cotton candy on her head! She is the special wall of the team and does an extremely good job at it. At first, Toxic was Thunder Wave, and Protect was Heal Bell, but I changed her to use Toxic Stall as I found that I didn't need Heal Bell as much as I did in other tiers, and at times I was wishing I had some more defense on my team. Dazzling Gleam instead of the Psychic STAB because Magmortar already runs Psychic and Dazzling Gleam allows me to hit the Dragon/Dark stuff.

Unfezant.png

Unfezant @ Razor Claw
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Quick Attack
- U-turn
- Night Slash

This set was inspired Pokefiend626's "Crit City" set. I decided it was interesting and gave it a try. I was also looking for another physical user at the time because my Marowak was to be replaced. After playing two games with this fellow, he was definitely here to stay. Night Slash has a higher crit ratio, U-turn is nice for scouting, and Return and Quick Attack are for STAB and priority respectively. Check out Pokefiend's team right here. Huge thanks to him!

I hope you guys liked the team, any feedback will be appreciated. Keep in mind that these are some of my favorite mon's and there are probably better alternatives, but I just don't use them. Another thanks to Pokefiend626 for coming up with the Unfezant set. Oh yeah, I got the idea of encore Chatot from TheCanadianWifier (I forgot if I already stated that). I couldn't find the exact set that he used, but I believe that the one I came up with is rather similar to his. Anyways, thanks for reading!

Hmm, this might be an ok team after a bit of help. Honestly, I actually like the structure of the team. This said, I feel Unfezant isn't the best choice for your team. Simply put, there are better pokemon to fit the Normal / Flying niche which have stronger attacks as well as faster attacks, and simply outclass Unfezant. Pokefiend was more experimenting with it than anything, and for your team I simply wouldn't reccomend it. This said, I do like the dual bird core with Chatot, and I personally this is a rather solid team. I would however be careful with Rock and Steel types as you seem to have trouble with them once Sandslash goes down.

The first thing I would do is to replace Kecleon with Gurdurr. This may seem unecessary, but I make the change for two reasons.
Most importantly, Gurdurr has perfect offensive synergy with your Dual Bird core, as it smashes through Rock and Steel types I've stated you have a bit of a hard time KO'ing, especially with Sandslash being worn down. Gurdurr removes some of the pressure from Sandslash, and paves the way for your birds to easily sweep. The second is that Gurdurr gives you a good dark resist, which is especially key with a Musharna on your team. Furthermore, ScarfMortar already acts as your revenge killer, and Gurdurr offers a strong Mach Punch which can help revenge kill if necessary, but you simply dont need a revenge killer like Kecleon. Simply put, Gurdurr gives you strong priority, but has far better mixed bulk, as well as Offensive + Defensive synergy with the other team members than Kecleon.

The next thing I would replace is Unfezant. It simply is outclassed. Toxic Orb Swellow is by far a better option, as you are more than not using this slot to punch holes for Chatot or clean after Chatot. The problem with Crits in this meta is that it only boosts 1.5x, and it isn't even consistent. Instead, Toxic Orb Swellow always has a 1.5x boost under its belt, and is going to more consistently deal damage. While you may feel it is in some manner "weaker" Swellow has far stronger STABs and easily 2HKO's most non-resistant pokemon in the metagame, but more importnatly has 125 speed. Anything under 95 speed is disliked in NU due to the wide distribution of NU pokemon in that range, but Swellow is far more reliable as a cleaner by being far above this speed tier, and more consistently cleaning teams for you than Unfezant.

Minor Changes:
Chatot: I would reccomend using Heat Wave + Nasty Plot > Encore or Substitute + Chatter. Encore and Substitute are redundant, as both are only used for the purpose of giving you setup opportunities, and only one is really needed. Heat Wave is completely needed to punch through steel types like Klinklang who would otherwise wall you. Life Orb is also reccomended, but not required, as Chatot is still rather weak.
Musharna: Moonlight > Protect for obvious reasons of recovery. I would also reccomend a physically biased EV spread of 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SDef to better check fighting types and tank knock offs.
Use 4SDef or Def > 4HP on Magmortar and Chatot, as they are Stealth Rock weak and such a EV spread grants then 4 switch ins > 3. Do this with any SR weak or LO carrying pokemon in the future.

Fun team!

Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off
- Bulk Up / Ice Punch

Swellow @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Facade
- Quick Attack

Hey soyacan

I am gonna suggest you to run Knock Off over Stone Edge on Sandslash as it will let you hit the Ghost-types that may try to block Rapid Spin, which is great as your team definitely need a reliable Rapid Spinner.

You should also try a different set on Musharna: CM+Baton Pass. The set works well with Choice Scarf Magmortar and Chatot as recipient.

musharna.gif

Musharna @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonlight
- Dazzling Gleam / Psyshock / Psychic
- Calm Mind
- Baton Pass

Finally, I would use Fire Blast over Psychic on Magmortar as you won't do much to Dragalge or Assault Vest Hariyama anyway, and a stronger STAB will come in handy more often than you think. Return over Fake Out on Kecleon would be a nice thing to try too, as it would give you a stronger and reliable option to sweep with if you get enough boosts.

You should also listen to Brawlfest regarding the EVs on Chatot and Magmortar (4 HP EVs->4 Def EVs), and trying out Gurdurr and Swellow. Oh and I think Heat Wave is illegal with Boomburst Brawlfest, lol.

EDIT: You are also really weak to Feraligatr, but I honestly don't know what you should change without affecting more than two Pokemon, so I am just gonna suggest trying out Physically Defensive Vileplume and/or a Jynx over something.

Hope I helped!

Yeah you are right about the illegality I'm just all sorts of stupid. I'd still want him to run something like HP Ground but lack of heat wave is kinda a turn off not gonna lie sg.

Actually, the SubEncore+Chatter has won me a good amount of games alone so I am definitely not changing it. I used to run Nasty Plot on Chatot, but then found that Encore was a bit more effective, as it can lock those Steel types into Stealth Rock if they lead with it and force a switch out.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-129705093 This is a replay of when I was using Chatot in UU about a month ago. I tend to stall with Chatot as long as I can, wearing them down as much as possible.

Kecleon just seemed like a fun mon to use at the time, but it turned out alot better than expected so I decided to keep it. I actually never considered Gurdurr and I'll see how it works out.

As for Sandslash, I didn't even know taht he gets Knock Off, and now I MUST use it :D Also, I thought about Calm Mind Baton Pass on Musharna, but seeing as how I only stall/peel with Chatot to get kills and never keep Scarfmortar in for long, I decided against it.

Thank you both for your feedback, I greatly appreciate it.

Hey dude cool team you have here. I'm going to agree with the Gurdurr, Musharna, Sandslash Knock Off and Fire Blast on Magmortar changes as I definitely think they improve the team. As Soulgazer pointed out your team team is incredibly weak to one of the most common Pokemon in the tier: Feraligatr, it's for this reason that I suggest you try out Ferroseed over Unfezant who seems like the most replaceable member. Ferroseed I feel would be a great addition to your team, letting you check Feraligatr while also supporting the team with Spikes of which Chatot especially appreciates due to Encore and Chatter forcing plenty of switches and therefore racking up more hazard damage.

ferroseed.gif

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Protect

Once again cool team, I hope I was able to help.

Yeah, while using Weezing, Feraligator wasn't a problem but after I switched to Sandslash, he pretty much charged through my team. I did try out Physically Defensive Vileplume and I'll see how well Ferroseed works out.
