Wierdly enough we have a tie between Grandmas Cookin and ABUELA COCINA. Since they both submitted the same set we'll add them both to the hall of fame. Anyways here's our next Pokemon.

Kartana has been one of the most defining presences for some time rn thanks to its great support in TW while being a monstorus offensive presence on the field. So lets snatch it from its role and lets figure out what it does best besides that!

Assault Vest gives Kartana surprisingly good special bulk, which synergises with its good defensive typing to take even stronger attacks than the standard set, while still hitting fairly hard and having good coverage. For example:

Smart Strike is mostly a filler to help with 50/50s (also Kartana doesn't really have a lot else to go there), and Knock Off is chosen primarily for the utility of removing items, but it also hits Dragapult and Metagross.

General idea
This is a basic offensive set with 252 Atk EVs/252 Spe+ EVs.
Leaf Blade + Sacred Sword is the classic dual STAB combination with Protect to preserve its bulk.
Swords Dance is mandatory to deal properly with Intimidate users and Focus Sash allows Kartana to be less dependant on a redirector.


Team(mates) support
A redirecor is welcomed, especially those with Pollen Puff/Heal Pulse to recharge Kartana's health if it doesn't have already used the Sash.

Scarf Kartana

Choice Scarf allows Kartana to outspeed the entire metagame even with a neutral nature. With choice scarf and 252 attack EVs + adamant nature, Kartana with still get the attack boost. The goal with this set that once you get one or two beast boosts up, with scarf and your ginormous attack stat, Kartana would destroy anything that gets in its path. Leaf Blade and Sacred Sword are the two standard moves for Kartana. Psycho Cut is more so a filler move, but it can hit things such as Amoongus that can give Kartana some trouble. Max speed scarf genesect does outspeed this set which can give this set some trouble.

this kartana aims to be switched in (ideally by using a pivot move)alongside a tailwind, and use its choice band to punch holes in the opponents team. The stab moves are for general purposes, knock off’s for utility, and psycho cut can surprise an amoonguss/kommo-o.

(it also appreciates rillaboom’s grassy terrain/lele’s psychic terrain, so put this on a team with one of those)

Giga Impact Kartana

Whatever you thought was a check isn't actually a check. Choice Band-boosted Giga Impact is a guaranteed OHKO on 152/0 Zapdos (the dex spread) and uninvested Rillaboom, and a roll to OHKO Amoonguss and uninvested Kommo-o. This is a very high-risk, high-reward set; if the Giga Impact goes into something that doesn't KO, Kart is dead. But if you can take out something that the opponent was relying on, then Kart will have cleared the way for its teammates. The fourth move can be a lot of different things; however, Smart Strike to almost always OHKO AV Kyurem-B and Knock Off to hit Dragapult or Metagross are probably your best choices. Still, there's value behind X-Scissor for Rillaboom, Tailwind as filler, or Psycho Cut for Amoonguss, though I'd personally only use the latter if you also have Psychic Terrain support.

Crit everything, without sacred sword u lose some coverage but can hit some other stuff you couldnt previously, team needs to be built with that coverage to compensate.

Substitute + Aguav Berry gives widespread utility. Uses include:
  • Increased staying power. This in turns helps with
    • Keeping Kartana alive so it can more easily accumulate Beast Boosts and keep them without switching out or fainting
    • Stalling out threats. For example, opposing teams often only have 1 Fire-type, and Kartana outspeeds all of Heatran, Incineroar and Volcanion, which lets you Detect + Sub continuously in their face until your teammate can handle them.
    • Abusing Kartana's strong defensive typing for resisted hits
  • Mitigating Intimidate
  • Avoiding status. In combination with the increased staying power, this helps with setting up a Kartana sweep
  • Scouting for Superpower on mons like Rillaboom. Unlike Detect, it also incurs the stat drop on Rillaboom (and after the stat drop, Rilla can't break Kartana's Sub with U-turn.)
Ideally you should have teammates who provide speed support, which justifies the drop of Tailwind. The 4 HP dump gives you a HP stat of 260, which is divisible by 4. This lets you Sub 3 times without taking damage to activate Aguav. Aguav > Sitrus since you can Sub to activate the berry, aided by Kartana's high Speed.

Other moves and EVs are self-explanatory. I use Detect > Protect, because in my many years of Doubles and VGC, I have never found PP to be an issue with Detect or used Protect >8 times, and have run into the rare Imprison + Protect about 5 times.
