Project National Dex How To Lure (Week 42: Pelipper)

Status
Not open for further replies.
fini? one of the most annoying things ever. i love this week's idea!

im not using this as my sub since its copying 23gz's mon, but this lures a lot more than just fini.

Sploosh (Gyarados) @ Normalium Z
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 68 SpA / 188 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Happy Hour
- Fire Blast
- Waterfall
- Power Whip

Hahayes happy hour

anyways, the real sub.

in all seriousness though... check this out. pairs insane with dragmag teams, and volcrilla core teams, clicking delete on every nonclef check (this thing does 65% to blissey)

Komala @ Assault Vest
Ability: Comatose
EVs: 176 HP / 252 Atk / 80 Def
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Rapid Spin/U-Turn/Sucker Punch
- Return (facade dosent get boosted sadly)
- Earthquake/Rapid Spin

lets name a few things this lures. everyone expects "HAHA CHOICE BAND LAST RESORT GO BRRRR" but seriously, AV is what has gotten me to top 500 in natdexmonotype. (Also if you are wondering, no blissey, pory2, or mega lopunny)
pex is 2hko. bliss is 2hko. fini is 2hko. heatran is 2hko. Amogus can do nothing, and is a 3hko (or 2 if you run zen headbutt for it) Corv is trouble, even if you run rock slide, but you can just go into magnezone. Iron head is an option if clef is a big issue.
the phys bulk is lacking, but now it lives bullet punch from mega scizor.

please give tree hugger some love

:ss/heatran:

Heatran @ Grassium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest/Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Solar Beam
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt/Stealth Rock/Toxic

252+ SpA Heatran Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Tapu Fini: 316-372 (92.1 - 108.4%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Heatran Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Tapu Fini: 288-340 (83.9 - 99.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Pretty basic lure, tapu fini switches into heatran, takes rocks/magma chip and then dies to z, whilst not being able to scout for it due to magma trap. Timid does a bit less but probably should still kill after magma and comes with actually outspeeding fini.
Grassium-Z Heatran submitted by ChrisPBacon!

Steelium Heatran:
Heatran @ Steelium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Steel Beam
- Taunt / Stealth Rock / Toxic

When i saw Grassium tran being suggested, i knew i had to talk about steelium Steel Beam Heatran, because i personally really prefer Steelium.
Steelium is very easily one of the strongest nukes in the tier, and of course almost entierly annihilate Tapu Fini:
252+ SpA Heatran Corkscrew Crash (200 BP) vs. 252 HP / 64 SpD Tapu Fini: 271-321 (78.7 - 93.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
It quite literally hits everything that Grassium hits, except Gastrodon (both of which u could either abuse with teammates or just toxic), Slowking (which is kind of a fake check anyway - and pursuit trappable) and Mega-Swampert (which takes ton of damages from the Z move still, and has no form of recovery - 252+ SpA Heatran Corkscrew Crash (200 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Swampert-Mega: 165-195 (48.3 - 57.1%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO ).
It just completly deal ridiculous damages to anything that doesn't resist it (often scoring the OHKO), notably other common Heatran switch ins that Grassium doesn't really hit, such as Garchomp, Kommo-O, or Mega-Latios.
Steelium-Z Heatran submitted by R8!

:ss/kommo-o:
Kommo-o @ Kommonium Z
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Swords Dance
- Clanging Scales
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab

This Kommo-o, usually run alongside a Pokemon like Ash-Greninja, runs Swords Dance in order to act as better muscle against Pokemon like Corviknight, Clefable, and our lovely victim, Tapu Fini. With Rocks up (a common occurrence given that this Tapu Fini is Defog), +2 Poison Jab has a 50% chance to OHKO. Because any Tapu Fini below 10% is going to be a liability, this set doesn’t really need Poisonium Z, and can continue to threaten the team with Clangorous Soulblaze should Fini fall to Poison Jab. As mentioned before, this Kommo-o has utility outside of the Fini MU, as it hits Clefable, Mega Mawile, and Corviknight much harder while retaining defensive utility against Ash-Greninja, Heatran, Rillaboom, and non-Psychic Volcarona.
Kommonium-Z Poison Jab Kommo-o submitted by Solaros & Lunaris!

:Greninja:

Greninja @ Groundium Z
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Dig
- Ice Beam
- Gunk Shot
- Spikes/U-turn

252 Atk Protean Greninja Gunk Shot vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 282-332 (82.2 - 96.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Most people assume specs ash gren and it is the superior set in most scenarios, but easily checking both pex and fini which would other wise wall specs ash gren is no easy feat. With rocks/spikes up it is close to a guaranteed ohko.
Gunk Shot Protean Greninja submitted by zeno420!

:ss/Greninja-Ash:

Greninja @ Choice Specs
Ability: Battle Bond
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- Water Shuriken
- Gunk Shot

Normally Tapu Fini is one of the best Ash Gren counters there is, but with Gunk Shot, a Hasty Nature, and 4 Atk EVs, you have a good chance to just 2HKO it after Rocks. Protean is probably better at ensuring the 2HKO but with this you can get the power of Ash Gren while still having the ability to lure in and beat Fini

4 Atk Greninja Gunk Shot vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 148-176 (43.1 - 51.3%) -- 58.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
Gunk Shot Ash-Gren submitted by NuttyRabbit!

:sm/hydreigon:

Hydreigon @ Poisonium Z
Timid Nature
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 8 HP / 220 SpA / 28 SpD / 252 Spe
- Nasty Plot
- Dark Pulse
- Belch
- Roost

Normally, Hydreigon absolutely hates Tapu Fini, as its standard Z-Earth Power set can't OHKO Fini even at +2 before Fini outright removes thanks to its Fairy STAB. However, this set completely flips that matchup, as Z-Belch obliterates Tapu Fini with little chip damage required (usually all you need is rocks + 1 unboosted DPulse to negate Leftovers bringing Tapu Fini out of guaranteed OHKO range), which helps to pave the way for threats like Quiver Dance Volcarona and Specs Ash-Greninja to sweep. This set also has the amazing quality of allowing you to utterly dominate Clefable, as even the Calm spread (for taking +2 Tectonic Rage from Hydreigon) is killed by unboosted DPulse into unboosted Acid Downpour even when factoring in Leftovers (if you really wanna lure Clefable, regardless if it's Unaware on stall or Magic Guard on Balance/BO, don't click NP. Always click DPulse and then either pivot out in order to sell your opponent the idea that your Hydreigon is helpless, or click the Z-move when you think you've fooled them). Meanwhile, this set still maintains its decent matchup against defensive teams thanks to Dark Pulse having decent neutral coverage. While your matchup against Heatran and Ash-Gren is a bit worse due to the lack of Earth Power to hit them after you've used Z-Belch, Hydreigon still has decent resistances to their STABs along with Roost and you're typically pairing Hydreigon with other checks to them anyways (at least in Ash-Gren's case).

Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall

- Power Whip

Fini likes to come into mgyara and annoy it so why not
+1 252 Atk Mold Breaker Gyarados-Mega Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Tapu Fini: 306-362 (88.9 - 105.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
Every other Fini drops without rocks so w/e it can't try to trade you.
+1 252 Atk Mold Breaker Gyarados-Mega Power Whip vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 396-468 (115.4 - 136.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Basically ignore the annoying "u only 2hko fini with eq 30% of the time or straight up lose if you arent" and start plowing right through it after a Dragon Dance.

moistshifu, gren, other mgyaras, manaphy, defensive mega pert and rotom-w (although eq technically already covers this).

Buzzwole @ Expert Belt
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Poison Jab
- Earthquake

Buzzwole likes having coverage because of how strong it is, but lures in fairies that can take a hit or two and strike back. Throwing poison jab on Buzzwole makes him threatening to new targets like Clefable, M-Gard, the Tapu's, and the occasional Hatterene or Azu. This set is all out attacking, and non-choiced because it doesn't need the extra choice-locked power to KO or outspeed fini, or likewise fairies, so that it can threaten other switch-ins like lando-t, dragonite, toxapex, or victini.

252+ Atk Expert Belt Buzzwole Poison Jab vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 216-254 (62.9 - 74%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

and if it's doing this much damage to fini, you know its a threat to the other fairies

Weavile @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Triple Axel
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
One of Weavile's few checks is Tapu Fini being resistant to both of Weavile's STABS and not even being close to fainting from them. But poison jab can make it so that Weavile can knock out tapu fini in one hit while letting Weavile also able to knock out clefable in two hits but it is usually more reliable than triple axel.

+2 252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 162-195 (47.2 - 56.8%) -- approx. 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Weavile Poison Jab vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 294-346 (85.7 - 100.8%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Toxapex @ Poisonium Z
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Scald
- Haze
- Recover

Tapu Fini is often tasked with taking on Toxapex as it is immune to burns from Scald, as well as Toxic due to Misty Terrain. Equipping Pex with Gunk Shot and a Z Crystal allows you to punish this, chipping it heavily and possibly outright KOing it with minor chip which isn't particularly difficult to achieve due to Fini's lack of non Leftovers recovery. A Z Crystal also provides your team with a knock absorber and protects Pex from being tricked with any crippling choice items.

0 Atk Toxapex Acid Downpour (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 252-296 (73.4 - 86.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 Atk Toxapex Gunk Shot vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 158-188 (46 - 54.8%) -- 9.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Happy Now Aadem? (Urshifu-Rapid-Strike) @ Electrium Z
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- Thunder Punch

A little self-explanatory, Bulk Up on the Fini switch and then click Gigavolt Havoc to delete it. This set also deals with some of the other bulky Water-types that would otherwise be relatively reliable walls to Urshifu-Rapid-Strike/wet bear such as the Slow twins and Toxapex. Pelipper/Gyarados base/Mantine to some extent too.

Needs a little bit of good play as a BU would definitely raise an eyebrow from the Fini player, but still, Fini is definitely one of those mons that would usually feel comfortable coming into wet bear, and to be able to delete it in 2 turns is nice as it could pave the way for it to sweep the rest of the team if the opponent is not careful.

+1 252 Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 406-478 (118 - 138.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252 Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 96 Def Toxapex: 296-350 (97.3 - 115.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO, guaranteed after Stealth Rock
+1 252 Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 308-364 (78.1 - 92.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Normally Mega Latias is pretty keen on using Clefable as setup bait, as it can Psyshock to win the Calm Mind war while Moonblast starts bouncing off of the jet plane at +1/+2. Imprison turns the tables on this, as suddenly Clefable is capable of winning by watching Mega Latias hit it with pitifully weak attacks. The difference between Imprison and Encore is, because Clefable is slower, Mega Latias just gets free Calm Minds for three turns. Imprison also has use in shutting Reuniclus down without too much trouble.

Typically Mega Latias is a decent switchin to Banded Blaziken, takinng little from anything other than U-turn or Knock Off, and even then those moves can be worked around, with U-turn forcing Blaziken out and Knock Off being able to be pivoted around. While those moves can let it win longterm, Blaziken isn't something you really want to play the long game with. Enter Assurance, a move which takes advantage of the fast BO/generally offensive builds Blaziken fits on by using their rocks to smash Mega Latias with a now 120BP Dark move (because Assurance works with hazards), resulting in this calc.
