I always have issues finding a good water-type, so thats why I sometimes consider water-type starters. Empoleon may lack STAB coverage, but in all honesty only a Water STAB is needed. Meanwhile it can get Ice Beam, Aqua Jet, Surf, and Grass Knot

And it really depends, since in Platinum all the starters get a good secondary typing. I've always been a fan of Turtwig and Chimchar, but even Piplup has many merits. It really what mood you are in at the time, as they all match up favorably against certain opponents. (though Turtwig is the least favorable due to the obvious grass typing)

This is just going by DP's post of the Shadow's plan, but believe he wanted it so that everyone but Severus was consumed and then as the Shadow over exterted himself Jakob would either free himself/get freed by Severus, and the two of them would beat the Shadow.
That's just my interperatation, you should probably ask DP though, since I like your idea too.
Well after Anima is consumed by the Shadow, it will just be Severus and Domon, then you have to get consumed as well. So I say launch an attack at the Shadow so it accidentally messed up the plan Severus and Anima had, which gives the Shadow an opportunity to consume her.
Lets post in BpB. The battle against the Shadow is afoot.
