I did some testing about 2 hours ago and having Work Up on his moveset really made a difference.

It's not too difficult for Herdier to get a sub in. The only thing he needs to worry about is coming in on a Fighting-type and if both Stealth Rock and Spikes are on your side of the field.

Probably, but unlike Raticate, Herdier has decent bulk thanks to Eviolite and higher base HP. Raticate may be faster, but Herdier can take a couple of hits without falling like a sack of potatoes. The only thing that makes Raticate stand out is Sucker Punch, so he's like a more terrible version of Zangoose.

With this moveset:

Herdier @Eviolite
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
-Substitute
-Return
-Crunch
-Pursuit

The idea is simple. Get Herdier in safely and set up a sub. Once Gothitelle comes in to set up CM / kill with Hidden Power Fighting, surprise the opponent with a Crunch attack. If they try to switch out, trap and then kill with Pursuit.

The coverage is a bit lacking, but that's what teammates are for! Because steels wall this set with ease, A Fighting-type partner is recommended. Torterra's STAB Earthquake can also dish out decent damage since most of NU's steels are part rock. Torterra also supports Herdier by setting up Stealth Rock.

That's crazy! I thought Escavalier was doing well in RU. It's falling in usage?

Also, I've had an increased interest in using Herdier. I think he could somehow check Gothitelle!

Actually, if we had Escavalier down here, it would dominate the tier. It's very strong, but slow as hell.
