I don't see a need to be picky about it. But, I'd rather it be X- / Y-type because normally it's Y-type, so it looks more consistent to me. If the grammar standards says it's not, well, I disagree. :)

Hmm, we also do X- and Y-type so I think they're pretty similar to this case.

N, grammar standards say dual types can't be hyphenated, so x / y type, x typing, x / y typing, but x-type, x- and y-type

Yeah, I'd rather not do that. If it were something like X / Y typing, I would do that because we do X and Y typing. The way it is now looks very inconsistent.
