Zangoose never had the bulk to perform well as something that crumbles to about every hit, so a mere ability change or a type change will not be helping much. On the other hand, Zangoose just has the right coverage to pull of a Protean set by abusing Normal/Fighting/Ghost coverage to gain various immunities to make up for its subpar defenses.
