Keep units next to each other (eventually it'll give you the option to "pair up"--that really buffs the active unit's stats, and is highly recommended). They'll randomly attack/guard each other, activation based on their relationship level.
Also, Lissa can't attack in her starting class, but if you grind her up (heal units even when they're only short like 1 HP), she's actually a pretty good magic user once you can reclass her after level 10. She also has access to the most broken class skill in the game: gale force (only certain female units can get it). Need to reclass her to a dark flier (advanced class of pegasus knight) to get it, but it is SO WORTH IT.
Also, do you know about the child units yet?

Dude I didn't get to the fifth mission before i restarted but yeah, I found that out. The enemies kept focusing her and she died :/

Yup, that happens. Are you playing casual or classic? Also, you can always SR and redo just the battle if your character dies in classic (casual it doesn't matter).
Also, press the "x" button to see a purple outline that shows which spaces the opponent units can reach to attack. That'll make it easier to keep her out of range. :)

I'm playing Classic of course. (On the beginner difficulty though.) I don't think there's any other way to play Fire Emblem honestly e_e

I play Casual because if my character dies I'm restarting so either way they're going to be alive at the end so really the result is the same. flawless logic right??

Hey, what'd you final class your MU to, Hula? I'm still playing around with mine (+HP, -Luck). Tried Hero (meh), might do sorcerer (mine has better physical attack, though), or might make her a grandmaster again (wish it had better movement, though).

I'm playing classic, but yeah, I totally SR everytime a character dies (been a while since then, though, since I did a lot of grinding to get good kids).

I did +Strength, -Magic is that good?
