Aragorn the King
ME TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I REALLY liked it

The beginning reminded me of Count Dooku in the Star Wars prequels like how he is introduced as a big threat at the end of the second and then killed at the beginning of the third haha. But honestly there was nothing they could do with Smaug since he didn't have anything to do with the plot so it was okay.

Alfred kinda confused me 'cause I didn't know if they were going to redeem him or not but I guess he ended up a scumbag at the end. I love the part when he was like "nothing escapes my watch" and I started laughing out loud because I just knew there was gonna be something huge there, even before they revealed it. lol

Also imo the dialogue was kinda cliched and predictable, like I kept completing their lines before they could haha

and when Saruman and Elrond were like "milady" I couldn't not think about those fedora dorks ugh though I guess that's not their fault

also I kinda like what they did with Bilbo because I like when the protagonist is more a spectator and not the biggest hero, makes him more relateable haha

(SPOILERS PEOPLE)

Yeah. They did as much as they could with Smaug (as time would permit). Now that i think about it the first part of this movie could've worked at the end of the second. But I still thought it worked here.

I loved every scene with Alfred. I had a feeling he'd stay bad throughout the whole thing too. "Nothing escapes my watch" was hilarious.

I also loved the scene at the end-ish where the bridge starts breaking, and then Legolas climbs each piece as if time stopped.

I enjoyed it as well but something about it felt missing that tLotR had imo
I also like what they did with Bilbo. I can agree to what you said about protagonists being spectators.
My biggest problem with it is how far it strays from the book. It really is expected that it won't be 100% accurate but they could've done a better job in that area. Not enough Beorn imo :3
Overall though I really enjoyed it. At least it's not like these 70's animated Lord of the Rings

Oh definitely it worked here because it was a pretty big cliffhanger and everything that happens in the movie is a result of Smaug dying anyway (the mountain being abandoned and everyone finding out about it). I think if Smaug died in the second movie we'd still have a flashback of sorts to it anyway since it basically allows this movie to happen.

Also yeah they couldn't really do much with Smaug aside from showing him blow up the town even more, I mean it's not like he could've gone somewhere else haha.

Those few minutes were awesome though since I really got the sense of how terrified but also awed everyone was. I think a big part of having a good monster in a movie is not just the monster itself but how everyone reacts/talks about it since you'll be able to relate and put yourself in it more easily
