Hmm, one way that we can avoid it is if he goes by a nickname and nobody knows his name is Magmortar. Maggie would be a good one but that is a little too girlish which can lead to more bullying. Morty also works, but then that might seem like a reference to Rick and Morty instead which would be even worse than Pokemon (even though there is a morty in pokemon)
