I'm trying to hop online, but there's something wrong w/ Showdown's connection. Says that it's timing out

Yeah I got the same problem, I can still do whenever for the next 10 hours, but if you can't or the server doesn't come back we might have to ask for an extension

I'll check back in half an hour to see if the problem has resolved

I'm still fine but I understand it's probably a server issue, I guess in the end we either wait until it actually gets stable or ask for an extention
