Hiya.

It's random for the most part - pretty much any NPC opponent can show up as a partner, with two Pokemon from their pool. The quality of the Pokemon increases with the win streak - at first partners will have bottom-tier mons which gradually improve as the streak increases. You'll start seeing partners with legendaries around 49 or 56 wins. (cont)

If you create an apprentice, they'll appear in the rightmost position in the Battle Salon. They'll have the three Pokemon you chose for them; each has a random nature & 85 EVs in each stat. (cont)

If you mix records w/ friend(s), they'll appear in the leftmost position. Their team will be the one used for their most recent Tower streak. If it was a Singles streak they'll have a random two out of their three Pokemon; if Doubles, two out of their four; and if Multi, just the same two. Note that the order of their team can vary.
