Well than you can you use the guy in the Subway to confirm your Pokemon has the Necessary Flawless IVs.
An AR isn't always for cheating, it's a very helpful tool that doesn't modify your game at all.
A good way to confirm IVs with out Leveling is Auto Level from the Subway and the Man who tells you Flawless IVs in the Subway.
I just suggest getting an AR. You'd make things so much easier for trading, EVing, and IV Checking.

Most problems that you'll run into will be problems that you cause yourself through user error. I've done some very stupid mistakes and you just have to know where to identify where you could have a slip up.
Just read the guide and watch the Bearsfan videos on 5th Gen help thread then come to me with questions. For now start with captures.
Have you tried to RNG in 5th gen before? It's mind numbingly easy, just ask any one who can do it xD
