  • it's not that bad, international schools are generally pretty chill LOL - at least compared to my previous Singapore school (that one was definitely hyper-competitive >.>). the IB also has lots more project work and continual assessments so it's more varied, and final exams being worth ~50% surely can't be a bad thing :p
mmhm yeah I think most people in HK, especially those in the city / more central areas, can speak English (it was a British colony and all..)

haha I'm not too clear about the distinction myself, but we do things like IGCSE, IB, BTEC while the local schools do HKCEE I think. and we get to not wear uniforms, and most of our teachers are British / Caucasian, I guess. you're in high school too? what do you do, AP / SATs?
I grew up in Singapore, where it's mostly English - actually, Singlish lol which is some extremely slang-y mishmash of English, Chinese, various Chinese dialects, Malay, and probably some Indian dialects thrown in there too idek. classes are in English, but we start learning Chinese / mother tongue right from primary school.

as for HK, i'm in an international school, so yeah English, but on the streets Cantonese is definitely used more - and I think local schools use Cantonese too. I don't speak Cantonese but I look Chinese, so it gets a little annoying sometimes :/ I'm going to college next year, so I think I'm in grade 12 now? called year 13 in my school (and the IB is eating my life D:)
thinking in English and translating phrases actually works though, most of the time? S:

for me it isn't so bad when I go to China and have to speak Chinese for a few weeks - I kinda get used to it after a while. I know a few people who do the one parent one language (?) thing though where say their dad speaks English and their mom speaks Chinese / Cantonese - I can't imagine how confusing their family dinners and stuff must be.
then again no one's ever _really_ bilingual imo? I've been speaking Chinese forever, but given the choice I'll always, always pick English lol - it's like I think in English and then translate it to Chinese, somewhat. what about you, do your parents speak Chinese much?
I believe that's the case. But I'll let you know when Oglemi allows NU analyses unless he makes a big announcement :P

Edit: well I suppose you could ask Oglemi about it?
I believe Oglemi wants the main RU analyses listed in the OP done before anyone starts reserving NU pokes.
Oh, well that's no problem. Tomorrow for you is probably tonight for me. You do live in the USA right?
oh wow, how did they manage to get mods and all even with the timezone difference, that's pretty awesome. haha, I've never been to the USA :/
Hey, if you got time, could you check UU Jynx (Dry Skin Update) for me? Just to get this update on site, it's just been sitting there.
I do occasionally, but I'm gmt+8 and actually in school now >.> and hardly anyone is ever online when I am. I'll be sure to try though!
Oh man, midterms are coming up, and I've been limiting myself to two GP checks a day. Sorry, how bout i get to it tomorrow?
