Exactly the point. The main plot is finding the remnants of Old World America, and find the reason why they felt they had the right to change the world in the form of a nuclear Armageddon. While this might be a barren topic, I feel it brings out a identification with the character and it gives them a unanimous purpose for their journey to exist.
