It all depends on how different the design is. It makes more sense to make Lucario from the original sprite, but then make something like Abomasnow or Diancie from scratch. Not everything can use the base

While that may be true, something like Venusaur from HGSS couldn't be easily animated due to its pose, nor would it fit in BW style battles. Idk that's just my take on it.

To be fair though, is it really worth spriting a whole new body for a pokemon when upon mega evolving, its body doesnt change? I dont see the problem in them being edited sprites, it makes the animation transition look pretty clean from my experience. I couldn't see salamence having another...
