Unpopular Opinions: Scarlet & Violet Edition

Friend Guard Evolite Clefairy is terrible for raids. Not because of stats or strategy, but because unenlightened internet randos will assume you're a troll and abandon the raid.

Don't know if this was discussed, but while the secondary effects of almost all moves are blocked by a barrier, Clear Smog is the exception. It will still nullify stat boosts, making it really useful against defiant Pokemon or those that spam swords dance.

Some more move quirks, be wary of Focus Punch. Dynamax pokemon cannot be flinched under any circumstances, meaning they can't lose focus and the move will always go off at the end of the combat round. They will tighten focus at the beginning of combat, use whatever other extra attacks they get...

Another thing that fails is moves that would instantly kill the raid boss like Explosion and Self-Destruct. Saw that while fighting a Claydol, wanted to explode so bad but it wouldn't let him.

What draws me to Silvally is it's bulk, as 95/95/95 with a resistant typing is pretty darn good at level 100. Power frankly is not that important. The Barrier HP thresholds mean you only need enough power to get to the next barrier, and the defense debuffs from barrier breaking make finishing...

It suffers a bit from the same problem the legendaries have, as dealing damage isn't absolutely important since you run into those barrier HP thresholds. But being able to dynamax does give it a leg up on Eternatus and the cover legends. Although I'd still say Silvally is the best pick overall...

Some other annoyances: Grass weak Pokemon are a trap (even those 4x ones like Dreadnaw), as Max grass sets up grassy terrain and heals them. Which can really suck when they have a barrier up. In fact, just be careful with your max moves as even the super-effective ones can carry "bonuses" that...

SPOILERS! Sword and Shield in-game team discussion thread

Got myself an Arcanine and didn't realize how crazy Gamefreak buffed it this generation. You can catch Growlithe in the Wild Area after the second gym at level 28 or so and immediately evolve it to Arcanine with a fire stone from the digging duo (providing you have some luck and watts handy)...

    Max Raid Discussion Thread

Kind of wondering if Shield's Zamazenta is the best pokemon for those going solo, as it gets both Wide Guard and Beheamoth Bash. Since after a certain point it doesn't matter how strong your pokemon are, but more managing barrier piercing with keeping your allies alive (yes I know wide guard...

    Unpopular opinions

It's more that the only new moves and new pokemon got the love as Double Kick's animation has been the same for 3 generations now. A few other grumbles are that Blastoise still can't use his cannons for anything (including Hydro Pump, which comes from his mouth). In general returning moves and...

    Unpopular opinions

The Sword and Shield animations are neither good nor bad, but fluctuate wildly between the two. Let me explain, sometimes these games have amazingly detailed animations and gorgeous scenery. But then they pull some really weird, cheap, or lazy stuff on you that gives the entire world a swiss...

SPOILERS! Mysteries and Conspiracies of Pokemon

So let's talk about those Sword and Shield Fossils and what they mean for the Pokedex. Spoilers ahead, obviously. So as you may know, the fossil pokemon this time aren't true fossils but based on the mistakes of early palentologist by putting any random dinosaur bones together and calling it a...

SPOILERS! [Crown Tundra!] List of Movepool Changes

From the posts on it, it seems to work like this: 1. Attack is blocked by disguise 2. Disguise pops 3. Mimikyu loses 10% of it's max HP. It's more a condition of the disguise popping and nothing to do with the damage taken. Think of it like life orb recoil. The true test would be to see if...

Sword & Shield **Official news only** DLC Crown Tundra 22nd October

I used the GTS to get the SmogonU giveaways. Had at least two boxes worth of those guys. And I know many breeders would giveaway their extra stock on the GTS, usually for decent offers if you knew what to look for (version exclusives and starters mostly). It was nice because it was so low-key...

SPOILERS! [Crown Tundra!] List of Movepool Changes

Mimikyu loses 10% of it's health, regardless of how strong the attack is. Honestly seems like a harsh nerf, given that Eiscue doesn't have this restriction (although I guess Ice Face only guards physical moves, not specials). I guess they just really hated the focus sash Mimikyu set (I always...

SPOILERS! [Crown Tundra!] List of Movepool Changes

Sorry, I couldn't find them and it wasn't listed on the first page with the other confirmed changes. EDIT: Decided to be less stupid and use the search function. Apparently this is just the one forum it wasn't mentioned. At least I'm not going crazy for missing what wasn't there!

SPOILERS! [Crown Tundra!] List of Movepool Changes

Haven't seen it here, but some other sites are claiming Mimikyu got nerfed. Disguise now deals 10% damage upon taking a hit, presumably to prevent stacking disguise with focus sash. Can anyone verify this?

Sword & Shield Battle Mechanics Research

Based on the vids I've seen, no. Since it's Showdown it is more than likely a bug.

Flying types and pokemon with levitate don't benefit from terrain effects. It's been like that since they were introduced.
