All Gens Past Gens Research Thread

Yesterday, my friend Etchy posted a video on his Twitter showing U-Turn causing a flinch when a Pokemon with the item King's Rock is switched in (as an aside, follow him if you're interested in research into old gens, his YouTube channel is amazing). This seems to line up with the research...

Not A Bug Dancer doesn't cure status

I can confirm that Dancer activating will not wake Oricorio up in Gen 7 or in Gen 9.

Mechanics Xerneas form in Hackmons' Team Preview

What type of bug are you reporting? Mechanics What is the bug? In Gens 6-8, a Xerneas with an ability other than Fairy Aura must appear in Team Preview as Xerneas-Active, as all abilities hacked onto a Xerneas-Neutral will be replaced by Fairy Aura once the Pokemon enters battle. Currently...

All Gens Past Gens Research Thread

Mold Breaker Fairy-type moves are not boosted by Fairy Aura in Gen 6 or Gen 7. Fairy-type moves still get boosted even when the activation message is suppressed in Gen 6 and Gen 7. Gen 3 and Gen 4 do not redirect Counter, while Gen 5, Gen 6, and Gen 7 it is redirected to the other Pokemon.

Mechanics Interaction of Pluck/Bug Bite and Jaboca Berry

Enigma Berry activates before it is eaten in Gen 5. ...I decided to test Chilan Berry with Normalize Bug Bite and Chilan activated before the move, so I double checked Coba/Tanga and they also activated before Pluck/Bug Bite respectively. For whatever reason I cannot seem to replicate the...

Mechanics Interaction of Pluck/Bug Bite and Jaboca Berry

Enigma Berry is eaten before it activates in Gen 4. Taking a quick look at the pull request, it looks like as it currently is it does not update Pluck as well, and does not seem to fix the issue with the Coba/Tanga berries either (though if I need to make that a separate bug report I can).

Mechanics Conversion2 should treat Struggle as a Normal-type move in Gens 2-4

Can confirm it works in Gen 3 and fails in Gen 4. Don't have the ability to verify it in Gen 2, unfortunately.

Mechanics Conversion2 should treat Struggle as a Normal-type move in Gens 2-4

What type of bug are you reporting? Mechanics What is the bug? In Gens 2-4, despite dealing typeless damage, Struggle is still considered to be a Normal-type move. This means that when a Pokemon hit by Struggle uses Conversion 2 in these gens, the move will succeed and turn the user into a...

Done Gen 3 OHKO moves do damage equal to the target's HP

The substitute disappears before the OHKO message in Gen 3.

Done Gen 3 OHKO moves do damage equal to the target's HP

What type of bug are you reporting? Mechanics What is the bug? In Gen 3 (and only Gen 3), OHKO moves are impacted by an oversight where they do a fixed amount of damage equal to the target's HP stat. While in most cases this oversight is unnoticeable, if the target has a substitute and an HP...

Fling does not exist in gen 3, but I can confirm that Recycle will restore the item in Gen 4.

The order of activation is based on speed in that scenario. Enigma - After Jaboca - Before Kee - N/A (doesn't exist in gen 4) Leppa - After

Mechanics Prankster hint during Illusion causes info leak

At least personally, my solution would be to simply not show the Prankster hint if the targeted Pokemon is currently illusioned, except if the Pokemon illusioned is a Dark-type (I am not a programmer so I have no idea if this is technologically feasible or not). Imo this would be the simplest...

From my understanding of the game's mechanics, that is correct. Here is a link for what happens when Prankster moves are bounced back onto a Dark-type.

    Not A Bug Zoroark

That was a Zoroark-Hisui disguised as a Lunala. Bitter Malice is Zoroark-Hisui's signature move, and Zoroark-Hisui is Normal-type, so it is immune to the Ghost-type Moongeist Bean.

The move state is completely reset when the status move is bounced back. (proof) This means that in the given scenario, the bounced Thunder Wave would be Electric-type. However, the bouncing Pokemon's ability can still change the type of the move before it is bounced back (for example, a Liquid...
