(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Idk I'm a fan of all three and I find Snivy much more consistently competent than the others (besides ORAS Treecko specifically), even if that's just because of Leech Seed and, to a lesser extent, Coil.

What pokémon got affected most by changes in the remakes of their games?

Wrong on both counts! Top-level speedrunners absolutely do play Voltorb Flip to get Thunderbolt. It takes a little under 3 minutes to get the coins needed and buy the TM (plus Abra for Teleport and Dratini for water HMs) thanks to RNG manipulation. The old route used Thunder, but you generally...

What pokémon got affected most by changes in the remakes of their games?

Mawile's been mentioned as a success story, thanks to its busted Mega Evolution and its new Fairy typing, but I think you could also frame it as an intergenerational loser, along with Aron and Sableye. All three are victims of the new Granite Cave layout in ORAS, which makes the lower floors...

Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

"nature changes mean that Palace is deconfirmed" is very funny, both because it's the last battle facility anyone should want back and (more importantly) because they could still bring it back and just alter the specific mechanics to suit the smaller array of natures or completely rethink the...

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

I think Eeveeto was saying "since we are in Gen 4 (and these items/features don't exist yet) my justification for them being on my team is that they came from the future, in-universe" But yes, I agree that some ground rules would be appreciated.

    Sticky Orange Islands SQSA Thread

As much as I like doing Gym Leader and Vs. Seeker rematches for their own sake, I find them a little tedious to rely on for grinding (and the Battle Chateau is just tedious all round lol). If your team can't just OHKO every E4 mon, then alternative grinding spots become much more appealing...

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

Overcoat didn't exist in Gen 4, sadly. DP is always tough for this challenge and I can never put my finger on exactly why. I guess having the Platinum dex available as such a direct comparison makes any team feel a little undercooked.

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

Fuego Safety Officer The Fuego Ironworks is best known for 1) the hazardous process of metalworking and 2) a network of floor tiles that make workers dizzy and confused. Sounds like they're in desperate need of some health and safety procedures! This Ice-type specialist is the only person...

Pokemon that disappointed you in-game despite looking good initially?

In fairness, I don't think there are any dialogue boxes that tell you what the baseline obedience cap is with zero badges, so it's more like "this is what you get for not doing a 20-second search on Bulbapedia" It's not unique to Sinnoh: every game released prior to HGSS keeps the cap at 10...

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

Black Sand Abrasion Sinnoh Route 228 is where the hostilities of the Battle Zone converge, penned in by the intense volcanic heat from the north and Sinnoh's brisk ocean winds from the south. The swirling air has whipped up a brutal sandstorm, driving away all but the toughest of trainers and...

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

Ooh looking forward to tackling this in the morning! Is this the first time that our only on-type options have had the same secondary type as well? Makes it literally impossible for the specialist type to be the single most represented option, which is kinda fun.

Since that's specifically May's dialogue, I wonder if Brendan says something different when you delay the Lilycove battle. So much to investigate!

    Unpopular opinions

Diantha's Hawlucha reveals the folly of Flying Press as a move, because it would have strong neutral coverage if it just used Acrobatics + HJK or whatever, but instead the weird dual-type move means it gets thoroughly walled by Ghosts and mostly walled by Poison-types, which is actually very...

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

No that's the Ula'ula one. The Akala one is the Psychic-type Pa'u style, but I understand people not worrying about the formes. After all, getting another island's nectar to transform your Oricorio is arguably no different from using a Z-Crystal that the player normally gets from a different...

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

SM has several lines referencing Kahuna Olivia's single status. Now, I certainly don't think anyone needs a romantic partner to be complete, but I do wonder: what would a match for Olivia look like? This trainer's team focuses on the interplay between light and precious gems, as a nod to...

You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

I always find LGPE Kanto uninspiring tough, but I'll have a go this time! Just as Tinkerbell was revived by belief expressed through clapping, this team hopes to clap its way to victory. In honour of their Fairy forebear, every Pokemon here knows the move Encore, alongside ways to take...

The dumbest thing the AI has ever done?

Yep, it's fixed in Emerald (and probably in Colo/XD too, based on DrPumpkinz's reply). Interestingly, the T&L battle is also a notorious run-ender for Emerald speedruns, but it's because their extra team members make the battle genuinely tougher, rather than because of pure AI randomness.

The dumbest thing the AI has ever done?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect Colo/XD use the same AI as Ruby/Sapphire, where even 'smart' doubles opponents choose their target at random and then choose their move using smart AI. It can feel really silly at times, but the added randomness can sometimes catch you off...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

All I meant by that part of my post was that lategame Super Potions tend to be actively detrimental for an AI trainer, whereas Full Restores are at least turn-neutral. Also 7yo me playing Sapphire for the first time definitely didn't master the mechanics and was always very underlevelled, so...
