What I meant was, do I need Platinum as opposed to my copy of Pearl that I already have? Will having pearl make it impossible to battle to my full potential, etc? I kind of want to get Plat. anyway, but I probably won't be able to for a long time.

Honestly, if EVERYONE could do it EASILY, I would say yes. Just have a team of RNG abused and a team of Non-RNG abused and use them depending on what the other person has. Honestly, overall it kind of is, because it's random for a reason.
