A separate point of a groupchat is a personal use sandbox chatroom (like for using commands) without interfering with other rooms. I and others have gotten lots of use from groupchats over the years for using it to test features like polls and tournaments without interfering with public rooms...

If I'm doing some project that requires a lot of commands, I'll often use a groupchat for it, because regular chats usually scroll too quickly to be helpful, I don't want to clog up slower regular chats with accidental command misinputs (eg forgetting a slash), and pms have a small window...
