Alright, I figured I was getting a bit bored with RS. RBY was way too bland for me, with only 7/8 useable Pokemon, and GSC was much too stallish for me. GSC UU I wanted to try out. Then while I was playing Stadium 2, I came across perhaps the most fun and most ingenius thing I completely forgot about: Little Cup
Here's to refresh your memory:
Sleep/freeze clause
Only Pokemon hatched from eggs are eligible
Eligible pokemon must be a preevolution (no lv 5 skarm, please)
Item Clause on
All Pokemon lv 5
Selfdestruct moves on last pokemon is automatic loss
Dragon Rage and Sonicboom are banned
Keep in mind this was all GSC, but I suppose it is possible to extend this to cover RS as well
From what I've seen, this thing is fast paced. Maybe not as fast as 2vs2, but still pretty fast for a GSC sub-metagame.
Okay, from what I've seen these are perhaps the biggest threats in the metagame:
Abra - This mofo has speed, and the SA to pull off a whole bunch of shit. The usual moveset here was Psychic/TPunch/FPunch/IPunch, and was pretty much unstopable although you could try some strange alternative over Fire Punch.
Scyther - this beast is fucking overpowered. Its a hell of a lot faster than Abra, and can pretty much OHKO most of the time. set I believe was WingAttack/Return/SteelWing/SwordsDance or something similar
Cubone - not as fast as Abra or Scyther, but it has alot more hitting power with Thick Club, which is perfect for this. RockSlide/Earthquake/Rest/SleepTalk seems to be the set of people's choice, but some do use Return and maybe Fire Blast (why?)
Those are pretty much the big three, at least from my experience. Chansey might rank up there, but all the offense sort of kills it. Chansey does have Softboiled and that nice CH rate with Lucky Punch, tho.
I thought it would be fun to extend this over into RS with a few altered stuff, probably something along the lines of:
Sleep/freeze clause
Only Pokemon hatched from eggs are eligible
Wynaut is banned/claused/no leftovers
Eligible pokemon must be a preevolution
Item Clause on
All Pokemon lv 5
Selfdestruct moves on last pokemon is automatic loss
Dragon Rage and Sonicboom are banned
As you can see, very little altering of the rules, but that doesnt change the metagame, and believe me, it has changed. The only things that did change tho, is that Marill is no longer eligible, but is replaced by the much more devastating pre-evo known as Azurill. Those deserving of mention:
Azurill - this thing shits on Scyther when compared together. Huge Power + Choice Band + STAB on Double Edge makes this thing a pain in the fuck to kill. It lacks the speed of Scyther, and thats the only thing going your way
Meditite - same with Azurill pretty much. STAB Fighting moves and lets not forget Fake Out.
Scyther - this can still be useable, mainly since its so damn fast compared to other eligible Pokemon. I'd probably go HPground/AA/Return/SD or something
Aron - its typing makes it one of the few to take Azurill's DE and survive. Makes a decent physical wall in this environment and attack-wise its decent, with stab on Rock Slide and Iron Tail if you really want to use it.
Diglett - with Arena Trap and speed, this is your Azurill killer. movesets & such should be the same as its evolved lv 100 counterpart for the most.
Chansey - Its back. Serene Grace and Calm Mind, and lets not forget Lucky Punch. This can be either kill or be killed. Its worth a shot, though
Larvitar - unfortunately you can't go BOAH with this thing, either because it lacks the arm or the punch to do an FP. Go DD with this, but I'd use maybe Crunch since taunt won't be used as much, and neither would Sub. just keep in mind that Larvitar is Rock/Ground instead of Rock/Dark, and also gets Guts, making it a nice status absorber if the situation arises.
Based on testing, the following rules have been decided for Advance Little Cup:
* Sleep/freeze clause
* Only Pokemon hatched from eggs are eligible
* Eligible pokemon must be a preevolution
* Item Clause on
* All Pokemon lv 5
* Selfdestruct moves on last pokemon is automatic loss
* Dragon Rage and Sonicboom are banned
* Scyther is banned (added 4/20/06)
Additions and comments are welcome.
