Hello, and welcome to my 2nd RMT. Please ignore the low postcount because I just created a new forum account to match my PO nickname, I used to be Miracle Man0 and I've been around smogon for almost three years (not that any of you care).
Anyways, my other RU teams kept getting demolished by stall, and I felt that even some of the most common sweepers in RU were not powerful enough to overcome the best walls of RU, so I decided to make a stall team.
What I really wanted for this team was solid counters to Yanmega, Sharpedo, Honchkrow, etc. and also a ton of entry hazards, phazing, and some heal bell support. I felt that spin blocking and spinning myself was mandatory for a stall team.
The first version of this team is below:
I soon decided to drop Primeape for Gallade due to the Psychic STAB and a higher base attack, as well as other reasons noted in the detailed analysis, so now the team is:
Detailed Analysis:
Munchlax @ Eviolite
Careful
Ability: Thick Fat
4 Hp/252 Def/252 SpDef
-Body Slam
-Whirlwind
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
This is one of the best if not the best special wall in the entire tier. I chose munchlax, though, because this set does so much in addition. It has phazing, rest-talk for status absorption, and body slam to spread some paralysis, if needed. This serves as my primary switch in to all yanmega and unboosted bug buzz does not even 3HKO, which means I can rest up all I want. I also switch this into Alakazam (trick sucks though) as focus blast does not 2HKO and its inaccurate and because I can phaze CM sets. With thick fat, Munchlax gets nice fire and ice resistances, which helps me tank Entei's hits and phaze him for rocks damage. Munchlax is crucial for my team and I always try to keep him alive.
Qwilfish @ Black Sludge
252 Hp/ 252 Def/ 4 Speed
Impish
Ability: Intimidate
-Toxic Spikes/Waterfall
-Spikes
-Taunt
-Rest
Qwiflish has nice Water/Fire/Fighting resistances, which help me tank the hits of many RU physical sweepers. Qwilfish forces these pokemon out, allowing me free spikes and extra entry hazards damage on those pokemon when they come back in. Taunt stops Ferroseed cold and gives me a free turn for spikes and also helps against other support mons. Taunt also helps against bulk up fighting pokes, except Gallade but intimidate is still nice on him. Rest is really helpful, especially with heal bell support since it can give Qwilfish a second chance to tank hits and set up spikes. Toxic Spikes is the move I use least, so I'm considering putting an atack there instead, help me on this one.
Claydol @ Leftovers
Calm
Ability: Levitate
252 Hp/ 252 SpDef/4 Def
-Stealth Rock
-Rapid Spin
-Toxic
-Earth Power
I needed rocks and a spinner so Claydol was the obvious choice. Claydol also sports resistances to Ground, Rock, Fighting, Electric, and Psychic that really compliment the rest of the team. I use Claydol as a secondary special wall and a check to ground type physical threats with earth power to take them down or toxic to hinder them. Claydol isn't amazing, but he fills his role well enough and I try to take advantage of any set-up opportunities that I can get and he is also one of the better checks for Gallade.
Steelix @ Leftovers
Impish
Ability: Sturdy
252 Hp/ 100 Def/ 156 SpDef
-Earthquake
-Roar
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
Another Rest-talker, this time a physical wall. Steelix sees use countering alsmot all of the physical flying types of RU except for Heat Wave Honchkrow and sports enough resistances to force switches against many other physical pokemon as well. Opposing walls or tanks like Miltank, Cresselia, Ferroseed, Munchlax, etc. have no business against Steelix and are promptly roared for more hazards damage. Roar is really the only move I use unless I'm asleep or if I need to go asleep, earthquake is mainly filler. I split the EVs between defense and special defense because I wanted to boost the Special Defense stat a bit while still keeping some EVs in Defense. If anybody has a better spread for this set, let me know.
Misdreavus @ Eviolite
Calm
Ability: Levitate
252 Hp/ 252 SpDef/4 Def
-Shadow Ball
-Pain Split
-Toxic
-Heal Bell
Misdreavus provides the heal bell support, rapid spin blocking, and toxic spreading that I wanted on this team. Misdreavus also is a secondary check to non-tinted lens yanmega since it resist bug buzz and has the special bulk to tank air slash. Misdreavus is used frequently in alsmot every match since as soon as I see a spinner on the other team I switch her in. Claydol can't hit Misdreavus with Earth Power and can only use toxic. Blastoise scald does very little damage and will likely toxic, Sandslash can't hit with Earthquake and might toxic, or just switch, and Cryagonal is rocks weak and will end up toxicing me too. In all of these cases I can toxic the opposing spinner while healing my own toxic with heal bell. From there, it is a matter of time before their spinner is down, which is the main offensive goal of Misdreavus.
Gallade @ Choice Scarf
Jolly
Ability: Steadfast
252 Atk/252 Spe/4 Hp
-Close Combat
-Psycho Cut
-Night Slash / Rock Slide
-Trick
Gallade is the offensive presence on this team and cleans up late game. Gallade also serves as my trick-scarf counter to last pokemon set up sweepers or other things that I might have trouble with, like Sub-Roost Moltres. By tricking them a scarf, I can PP stall until I win. I chose Gallade over Primape because of Trick but also because of Psycho cut, because I lost once to a Weezing that was my opponent's final pokemon. If I can I save Gallade until everything on my opponent's team dies to a CC after hazards damage, but that rarely happens. Usually, I bring him in to revenge kill something and switch out later. I really can't let Gallade die mid-game, because them I lose all of my offensive capability. I am considering Rock Slide over Night Slash to help against Specs Tinted Lens Yanmega, who rolls over my team, and Moltres.
Former Team Members:
Primeape @ Choice Scarf
Adamant
Ability: Vital Spirit
252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Hp
-Close Combat
-U-Turn
-Punishment
-Ice Punch
My first Scarfed late game cleaner. Punishment was for CM Cresselia, U-Turn for scouting, Close Combat for damage, and idk what Ice punch was for. Gallade has served me better, but U-turn was nice on Ape.
Conclusion:
Thank You for Reading!!!! I would really appreciate any feedback that you have concerning how to make this team better. I'm aiming for a #1 ladder peak and I've made it to #5 so far, so with a little help and a little luck, I think I can do it.
