( \ : [1ST] OU TEAM : / )

.:Intro:.

I picked up Pokemon more or less two weeks ago . . . and got on Smogon no more then a day later. I have been getting the basics down and feel like I should actually try and make a team so here it goes. I do realize it's extremely early to be posting an RTM but I have lurking since day 1 and feel like this is one of the best ways of learning.

Suggestions are more than welcome.
Issues
There are obviously many issues with this team and what I hope to do by posting this RMT is to figure out what those weaknesses are and break them down until I can take care of most of them. I will post each versions changes and how they did when tested respectively. I'm not hesitant to changing Pokemon for better ones, as thats the only way to improve on my setup. In fact, I see many flaws in this team but the main problem I have is being able to choose Poke to counter those problems all the while keeping the team together. This is where you guys come in and help me become a better player and hopefully, a better team maker.

Team

Spr_b_g4_251.png

Celebi @ Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 76 HP/180 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Leaf Storm
- Earth Power
- U-turn

The first lead of this team. Experimenting with it still.

Flying: Jirachi, Magnezone, Heatran
Poison: Jirachi, Magnezone, Heatran, Gengar
Bug: Magnezone, Heatran, Gengar
Ghost: Magnezone, Heatran
Fire: Latias, Heatran
Ice: Jirachi, Magnezone, Heatran
Dark: Magnezone, Heatran

Spr_b_g4_385.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch

Jirachi's main point in this team is to be annoying. Rachi's ridiculous flinch rate with SG makes it one of the most annoyingly gay Pokemon in the OU and if you've played against it then you realize how aggravating it can be to get flinched over three times in a row. Substitute and Leftovers are to keep its defense / HP up while flinching the opposing team and Thunder wave is to be used when switched in at first. After substitute is up, theres no stopping Rachi and he always has the choice to switch out when needed. Fire punch is for those who don't get hit by T. Wave like Swampert.

Ground: Gengar, Latias, Celebi
Fire: Heatran, Latias

Spr_b_g4_380.png

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire] or Grass Knot [?]

The answer to dragons and heavy duty fire types. Haven't put this team to test yet so I don't know how well Latias will fit but he seems fine. If there are any better replacements throw 'em at me but be sure to give good reason. CM + DP is pretty legit.

Bug: Gengar, Magnezone, Heatran
Ghost: Magnezone, Heatran
Ice: Jirachi, Magnezone, Heatran
Dragon: Jirachi, Magnezone, Heatran
Dark: Magnezone, Heatran

Spr_b_g4_462.png

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 40 Atk/216 Spd/252 SAtk
Lonely nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Explosion
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Great synergy with the team. Destroys nasty Scizor if Rachi fails to do so with Fire Punch because it fainted? and also beats Scarf'd Rachi? STAB'd T. bolt makes it a pretty big deal. I'm also still trying to figure out how Explosion over Magnet Rise will play out. Will test out if I can get a 6th.

Ground: Gengar, Latias, Celebi
Fighting: Gengar, Latias, Celebi
Fire: Heatran, Latias

Spr_b_g4_485_s.png

Heatran @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Explosion

Backs up my Latias and Gengar. Takes down Swampert. Earth Power to take down incoming Heatrans and other fire types. STAB'd FB for Salamence, if I have SRs up it could do damage. I chose Explosion over Substitute because I don't see Sub being used nearly as much but that's subject to change.

Fighting: Gengar, Latias, Celebi
Ground: Gengar, Latias, Celebi
Water: Latias, Celebi

Spr_b_g4_094_s.png

Gengar (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 100 Atk/252 Spd/156 SAtk
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Hidden Power [Fire]

No idea what to give Gengar. He's fast and has a great moveset, probably one of my favorite Pokemon and I think he would work fine on this team if I had a decent set to give him. I'm going with SubPunch until' I find something better. This set allows him to take down bug types if Magnezone fails to do so and can 2HKO the OU norms. STAB'd Shadow Ball along with its hasty nature and EVs allow it to take down other Ghost types. More subject to change then anyone else on the team.

Dark: Magnezone, Heatran
Ghost: Magnezone, Heatran
Psychic: Jirachi, Latias, Magnezone, Heatran, Celebi

Ladder Battles
1. Lose
2. Lose
3. Win

note: I'm going to start taking small notes during battles, though these notes might not be posted. These notes will include but are not limited to: what does the worst in battle, move set that I might want to change, revenge killing tactics, what destroys my team.

Changes to team
The only change to the team was the lead. I didn't feel as if Lead Celebi was doing enough and over I think I made a bad choice in using it in the first place. I found Azelf a much better lead after playing a few games with it. At the same time, the synergy of the team didn't really change that much. Not only was Stealth Rocks a given 90% of the time but he outspeeds almost all leads and takes down most Leads without a problem, something Celebi wasn't doing AT ALL. Focus Sash guarentees a stealth rock or a hard hit Explosion / FB if anything goes wrong. The only problem I have with him as a lead is Aerodactyl, who outspeeds Azelf. :|

Spr_b_g4_482.png

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Fire Blast
- Explosion

Spr_b_g4_380.png

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]

No changes yet.

Spr_b_g4_462.png

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 40 Atk/216 Spd/252 SAtk
Lonely nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Explosion
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Someone recommended HP Ice but I'm not sure how this would play on my team. I know I have nothing outside of Latias that can hit Dragons hard but Mence > Latias so . . . :/

Spr_b_g4_485_s.png

Heatran (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Explosion

Nothing, gets the job done . . . unless against Ttar.

Spr_b_g4_094_s.png

Gengar (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 100 Atk/252 Spd/156 SAtk
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Hidden Power [Fire]

After sub is up, there's no stopping Gengar.

Spr_b_g4_385.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch

Again, after sub is up nothing stops Jirachi. I usually switch him in late battle but if things are going wrong mid battle, I switch in T. wave and switch out or fire punch, depending on who's opposing. The one Pokemon I want to keep on this team forever. Moveset can change but this has been doing me better than fine.

Ladder Battles
1: Won
2: Won (suggested HP ice on zone?)
3. Won
4. Won
5. Lost (demolished by Electivire)
6. Won
7. Lose (Realize I need a fix to opposing Tyranitars, Surf doesn't do the job and I always get hit OHKO'd before being able to land HP Grass or Earth Power etc . . .)

Basically took most of Grim's advice. To be edited soon. Here's the team's set now. Will do specifics when I have time. Still, feel free to help and tell me what I should change.

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Fire Blast
- Explosion

Fine lead. Always gets SR up which is the only real reason I need it. If I get a Metagross, I can setup then Fire Blast it to death most of the time. Aerodactyl is still somewhat of an issue but I can mostly setup against them as well. The occasional switchout for future revenge suicide or mid game SR.

Latias (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

Putting trick and Draco on it makes it a very good revenge killer to look out for. It's speed is high for the same reason and Surf is for when switching out when Ttar or someone goes for an Earthq.

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Explosion
- Flash Cannon

Has been doing the job of killing Choice'd Scizor. HP Fire might be better for the job but this does it fine since this is a Scarf'd Zone + it makes for a good Revenge killer.

Heatran (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Explosion

Swampert, go die. I don't think I'll change this set soon. It hasn't failed me: EP against opposing fire types or when they switch out and think I'm going for the FB. Explosion for the bulky normals and FB is just a great STAB'd move that can OHKO a few unprepared OU.

Gengar (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 100 Atk/252 Spd/156 SAtk
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Still testing this setup. If I set up a Sub. they usually get Scizor out and try to Bullet Punch which breaks my Sub but I can 1HKO with HP Fire. Basically the same situation for others but if they're immune to HP Fire and don't take much from FP then I just go with the STAB'd Shadow ball which hits hard.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch

Scizor switches in, I Fire Punch it to death. Everything else, Thunder wave, Sub., then Iron Head. Fire punch is mostly for those steel types that think they can handle Iron Head repeatedly.

Ladder Battles
[Was 11/16 before deleted]

Note: Dropped the Win/Loss thing. Kind of dumb, I'll just take notes of what gives me the most problems.

Outro
Will keep editing team as needed but I will note what I need help with most under here. I lurk the boards a lot so I'll probably respond to any posts immediately. Jirachi has gotten me quite the amount of games if I get Sub. up so he's the main one I want to keep on this team. Future thanks to anyone who helps me (: This is just the beginning of my future here on Smogon.

Hey welcome to Smogon.
This is a pretty solid team, and I wans so excited that someone else used lead Celebi. Then you changed it. :/

Anyway, I'll try to help as much as I can.

Azelf - A solid lead

Latias - The CM versions are gonna have some trouble setting up with T-tar around. I suggest changing it to a Choice Specs variant, as you can still do a shitload of damage without setting up.

Magnezone - How's explosion working for you? You currently lack a revenge killer, so you should maybe slap a scarf on this. HP Ice would work pretty well with a scarf, as you already have Heatran with HP Grass.

Heatran - Timid decreases Explosion's power. Run Naive.

Gengar - Ew, SubPunch. Personally, I think it does too little damage to be successful. If you don't like a scarf on Magnezone, change Gengar to Modest and give him a scarf. However, you can also run Sub-3 Attacks, so you can beat Scizor and escape pursuit.

Jirachi - Hmm. Your team would like some wish support, as many pokes cannot heal themselves. I recommend the CM - Wish set, as it gives you a great late game sweeper and a wish supporter.

I hope I helped!

Team looks pretty nice.

I'd give Rachi Wish, because most of your pokemon lack healing ability.

Your Gengar may want to try the Life Orb set. I use this on my team and it works wonders.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spe / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Sub/Hypnosis/Explosion

Sorry >_> I mean, I love Celebi I just don't think he'd do better then Azelf, especially not what I was running on it.

Okay, first things first. I ever so rarely use Magnezone's Subs. Explosion actually gets some decent kills off and I actually like the sound of ScarfZone with HP Ice. Flash Cannon would do good for my Ttar problem.

I'll try running Specs Latias since it apparently outruns Salamence and has some real power to it all the while.

For Gengar, I'm iffy on changing. There's nothing thats gonna take down a Blissey as easily on my current team, unless I take Gengar out for Machamp or Scizor (I wonder how Machamp would fit into this team, actually).

Heatran, didn't notice I wasn't running it. Will do.

Jirachi, I don't know about this one. Might consider if I start running into problems.

I'm off to play some more games and test out what you recommended, thanks a lot Grim. Tell me what you think about the Machamp idea, if anything! (:

-
Hbest!
I just realized my Gengar set is all over the place. I never thought of running Hypnosis on Gengar, Substitute is a no, since it's a Life Orb set. I think I'm going to run LO with T. Bolt / Shadow Ball / FB /HP Fire. Just replacing sub with thunderbolt because Gyarados is pretty gay (Earthq > Zone). Scizor Pursuit has yet to give me problems but I'm sure if I run into it, I'll be screwed. I'll go check all these out now.
/
Nevermind, I have enough T.bolts running around. I think I'll stick with my current SubPunch Gengar as it gets me the needed kill off of Blissey and Scizor.

If you're really afraid of Blissey, Sub-Pain Split on Gengar would work just as well, as Blissey can't do squat to you while you drain out her HP and heal yourself.

Jirachi has a myriad of movesets you can try. If you don't like one, just switch to another. xD

It's not really Blissey but my Gengar gets taken down way to fast. I need a more sturdy Poke while doing the job he does. If I can't get a proper Sub off then he's basically finished with a switch in or I have to take a good hit. :/ I'm thinking Leftover / Scarf / Band Machamp. I'm leaning towards Subs. Leftover Machamp with Payback so it could take on the likes of Gengar and Rotom while still being able to confuse Poke that give me a problem and do some serious damage.

Well I got your PM (sorry I could not do it yesterday it was Easter,)
Ok I looked at your team and saw 5-1 ratio of special attackers. Which would not be bad it a Pokemon named Blissey never existed but she does. So yes I would say use Machamp (Though I have never used one before) over Gengar. The sub set will keep it like your Gengar so you would not have to make a major overhaul just to get into the team. Well your team seems like it wants to welcome him with open arms because Heatran is his buddy because of his immunity to burn. And the burn would actually help him due to flash fire. Anyway I think this set should get the job done:

Machamp @ leftovers
nature Adamant
evs 248 HP 252 Atk 8 Spe
Ability No Guard
moves
- Substitute
- Dynamic Punch
- Stone Edge
- Payback

Yeah I know this is the Substitute+3 attacks set right off the StrategyDex. But I think it is so good it does not need any changes at all and would work great on your team. Well substitute is there (Duh!) for blocking status drops form intimidate and ease prediction against ghosts that could come in and hit you with a 100% accurate Will-O-Wisp. But will have to break you substitute first this when you can smack them with Payback that is there because ghosts are evil for Machamp so he needs a way to take them out. Stone edge is for hitting flying types like Gyrados and Salamence (BTW if you think you already have one of these two covered well by other Pokemon switch stone edge to thunderpunch or icepunch depending on which one you have trouble with, you do this change for higher PP.) Dynamic Punch well we all know why this is here 100% confusion with a powerful STAB 100% accurate (No Guard factored in) move yes please. So I think this set would suit you well and if nothing at least give you some ideas for the evolution of your team.

Well I hope I help and good luck
