1st RMT

Hi. This is my first RMT. I'm not so new in competitive battling, but never have done a RMT. The team has been tested several times and it had good results. Enjoy:

Smeargle @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe

Moveset:

~ Trick
~ Spikes
~ Spore
~ U-turn

TrickScarf Smeargle is a nice lead. This Smeargle is used over the common Focus Sash Smeargle because he doesn't gets Taunted. I just Trick my Scarf while the opponent uses Taunt and he gets locked into his move. If the opponent lead doesn't uses Taunt, I use Spore to cripple one of his Pokés and begin setting up spikes. U-turn is just to scout out while doing 1% - 10% of damage. Speed doesn't need to be maxed because 216 Speed EVs reach 396 Speed, that's enough to pass Max Speed Aerodactyl.
Still, there are some leads that Smeargle can't do his job effectively. So that's why the next member of the team is...

130.png

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spe

Moveset:

~ Dragon Dance
~ Waterfall
~ Return
~ Taunt

The Bulky DD Gyarados' moveset. Gyarados is a fine partner to match up with Smeargle. Gyarados sets up on Infernape, Metagross and Jirachi. Waterfall and Return make a nice coverage, only resisted by Shedinja and Empoleon in OU. Taunt prevents some ghost to cripple his attack with WoW and also blocks PHazing moves.

Obs: Suggestions of moves over Return are highly accepted because Normal attacks doesn't make Super Effective hits.

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Nature: Mild
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 40 Atk / 252 SpA / 216 Spe

Moveset:

~ Thunderbolt
~ Flamethrower
~ Hidden Power Grass
~ Cross Chop

The classic GyaraVire combo. As Gyarados attracts Electric attacks and has a 4x weakness to them, Electivire enjoys absorbing them. Electivire pairs up nicely with Gyarados not defensively, but offensively too. Electivire takes away Swampert, Skarmory, Forretress and a lot of other Pokés that Gyara (and Metagross) hates. I'm using HP Grass on him because no Swampert expects it, making an easy OHKO.

485.png

Heatran @ Shuca Berry
Nature: Naive
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Moveset:

~ Fire Blast
~ Earth Power
~ Stealth Rock
~ Explosion

I was needing someone that could lay Stealth Rocks. Heatran was the obvious choice because he could absorb WoWs aimed at the other team members. Shuca Berry is the perfect item as it makes Heatran survive a Celebi's / Shaymin's or Heatran's Earth Power and OHKO back with Fire Blast / Earth Power respectively. When his job is done, he Explodes, taking away one of the opponent's Pokémon.

376.png

Metagross @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Moveset:

~ Meteor Mash
~ Earthquake
~ Zen Headbutt
~ Explosion

The Team was weak against Gengars and Scarf Tyranitars. Firstly, I tried using Lucario, but he wasn't Powerful enough and had another Fighting Weakness. So I changed Lucario -> Metagross and the results were better. Scarf Metagross is unexpected, so it always gets a KO. It has defensive synergy with the team too, being the only one to resist Rock.
Explosion is used because it will always OHKO CroCune (after Stealth Rock damage), that my team has some troubles dealing with.

Rotom-c @ Leftovers
Nature: Calm
Item: Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD

Moveset:

~ Discharge
~ Shadow Ball
~ Will-O-Wisp
~ Pain Split

After having the work of laying three layers of Spikes and one of Stealth Rock, I could just let the opponent come with a Forretress and blow away my Entry Hazards. First off, I chose this form of Rotom because he's easily my favorite one. I chose Rotom-c as my Spin Blocker because he works greatly as a Status Platform. He also counters Gyarados excellently and abuse nicely of the BoltBeam Combo. Lastly, Pain Split recovers HP while being a great way of weakning Blissey.

Not a bad team, I like the unexpected surprises that you have in it.

Rotom does not have any EVs, so be sure to add those in. If you are wanting him to counter Gyarados, he wants defense, so change his nature to Bold. Because he's not an attacker, he doesn't need BoltBeam, and would prefer having a secondary STAB of Shadowball. As you acknowledge, Return on Gyarados doesn't do much. Change it to either Bounce, Earthquake, or Stone Edge, whichever you like most. I prefer Bounce as it works well with his Leftovers, and it's a secondary STAB, and is only resisted by Empoleon and Lanturn, the latter which is not seen much on OU.

This team has a gaping Starmie weakness. Shaymin isn't a bad counter to it, although it doesn't like eating Ice Beams. Leech Seed Shaymin causes a lot of switches, and your team has Spikes support, which will rack up tons of residual damage on your opponents. I had forgotten to suggest who to replace but I had Electivire in mind (agreeing with LegendKiller) as he doesnt do much for your team. Shaymin can also help take Tbolts for Gyarados.

Shaymin @ Leftovers
Timid
252 HP / 68 SpAtk / 188 Speed
Leech Seed
Protect
Seed Flare
Hidden Power Fire

This is a pretty solid team to begin with. Hope I helped out and have fun!

Hey, you're missing EVs on Rotom-C, please do fix that.

Threats
  1. Offensive Suicune
  2. Dragon Dance Dragonite
  3. Lead Machamp
  4. Dragon Dance Gyarados
  5. Life Orb Starmie

Looks like an interesting team, but Offensive Suicune can get Metagross locked into a NVE move, and Gyarados (HP Electric) out and get in that CM boost. From there it can OHKO everything with Hydro Pump/HP Electric/Ice Beam. Likewise, Starmie can also cause havoc, outspeeding everything and KOing with Hydro Pump/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam. You'll have to play Electivire very carefully to get the Motor Boost and defeat Starmie, if you switch in on Hydro Pump, it's gg right there. Dragon Dancers in Bulky Gyarados and Bulky/Offensive Dragonite can also be bothersome; Both can set-up on Metagross locked into the wrong move and Heatran (unless you Explode) and do bucket loads of damage with boosted Waterfall and Stone Edge from Bulky Gyara, Outrage, Earthquake, Fire Punch from Offensive DD Nite, and Outrage, Earthquake coupled with Roost from Bulky Dragonite. Rotom-C does counter Gyarados but not with a Calm Nature, no recovery, and lategame when its taken prior damage. Machamp leads with Stone Edge are quite troublesome to deal with, as Dynamic Punch/Payback/Stone Edge is hard to handle for your team.

Solutions:

First of all I think you should change Smeargle to a Focus Sash lead with Counter, which handles Metagross (which troubles your current Smeargle) and many other Physical Attackers in the lead spot, and begin setting up the necessary Spikes right from the get-go.

  • Solution A: Choice Scarf Rotom-W over current Rotom-C
As you may already know, Rotom-W ith Thunderbolt and HP Ice is a great check to all Gyarados variants, and Mixed/DD Dragonite, as well as Flygon. It shuts down CMers and other stat-uppers with Trick, while still providing that Anti-Rapid Spin, and revenging a whole bunch of threats.

  • Solution B: Leech Seed Shaymin over Electivire
I'll be completely honest, Electivire sucks. Period. It is walled far too easily by common Physical Attackers due to lack of a powerful STAB move. Shaymin on the other hand provides a much needed check to Offensive Water- types such as Suicune and Starmie, providing a tool to mess up stall, and racking up residual damage with Leech Seed+Spikes. For example, Infernape switches into 2 layers of Spikes, and an incoming Leech Seed, and loses about 1/4 of its HP. You protect on its Fire Blast, and it will be down to 50%. You bring in Gyarados on Fire Blast, it loses even more due to leech seed and LO damage, next time it comes in, its a dead monkey. Its also a great check to Rotom-A (no Overheat) which helps Gyarados a lot

  • Solution C: Agility Metagross over current set
Two Revenge killers with Scarf Rotom-W and Metagross is highly unnecessary, as both are trying to revenge similar things; Agility Metagross loves Spikes support a lot, due to a lack of Attack boosting move. Its two physically defensive nemeses, Gliscor and Swampert, are set-up on by Gyarados between Taunt+Dragon Dance. Definitely try it out, your team gives it the correct support in entry hazards and covering its threats, so most of the time, it will sweep the foe clean. Shaymin handling Rotom-A helps Gyarados and Metagross sweep much easier

Thank you both. Focus Sash Smeargle is something that I will really consider. Machamps are really problematic to this team, and I couldn't counter him safely.

Electivire was a team member that I really didn't like much. The reason was because he wasn't too powerful, and other members of my team could easily do his job (Heatran could take care of Skarm and Forry, Rotom could take Electric attacks etc). I will begin testing SubSeed Shaymin right away, especially because I had problemas with CroCune, Offensive Calm Mind Suicune and with Starmie.

Obs: I don't know why there are 188 Spe EVs in the first suggestion, as they won't make Shaymin outspeed anything important.

Also, I will begin the tests with Scarf Rotom-W and AgiliGross. I liked the suggestion of both, as AgiliGross abuses Spikes and SR nicely, while Scarf Rotom-H can Trick his Scarf to Suicune or simply revenge kill Starmie.

And just to stop your curiosity, Rotom EV Spread was 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD. He was just EV'd in Special Defense because I knew that Starmie would be a serious threat to my team. He also could do his job more easily against Tentacruel, who is so common in Stall Teams. Rotom also took 50%-60% HP when defending Bulky DD Gyarados Waterfall.

Obs: Why your suggestion of Scarfed Rotom has just 56 SpA EVs? He can't even OHKO Dragonite after Rocks damage, and even Flygon has a chance of surviving his HP Ice.

Yeah just make it 252 Satk /4 Def / 252 Spe. Also as a heads up, you are weak to DD Tyranitar, and you'll have to use Gyarados' Intimidates as a way to soften its blows, send in Metagross to hit it for a solid amount with Meteor Mash (and survive the Fire Punch with more than enough after intimidate), and revenge it with Rotom-W's Hydro Pump. If it has LO it is easier to handle, since LO+Spikes+SR will be enough to wear it down and you can revenge it with Rotom's Hydro Pump. In this case especially, by all means max out Rotom's SAtk.

Again, thanks for the suggestions. All were really good and they improved the team even more. The only thing I will change is ThunderPunch in AgiliGross to Zen Headbutt, that deals more damage to Zapdos. Considering Zapdos Change on Meteor Mash and is hurt by SR, Zen Headbutt KO's it.
