VGC 1st RTM. Please be gentle D:

Hello guys, first of all I want to tell that I'm new in competitive battle (yes, I'm a noob, although I've played every pokemon game), so I need more lessons to make a great competitive team.

In 2 weeks I'll have a tournament that runs VGC rules, and with my little knowledge and skills I tried to build up a good team to participate in.

At first, seeing what I have I thought to use one of my good megas (Kangaskhan, Mawile or Manectric). I wanted to use Blaziken as mega (as one of my favourites, I love to use it, but...it's not a kalos pokemon D:), but seeing that I can't use it I decided to use one as powerfull as it, choosing Kangaskhan

Mega-Kangaskhan_XY.png

Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite
Ability: Scrappy
Shiny: No
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power-Up Punch
- Sucker Punch
- Return
- Fake Out

The standard set is what I wanted. With scrappy it hits ghost types before mega-evolving, so I can Fake Out ghosts like Gengar and Sableye, 2 of the most annoying ghosts. Power-Up Punch serves as the "Sword Dance" to boost its attack stat, and Sucker Punch as priority move. Return, the STAB and most powerfull attack, kills almost every pokemon on oposing team. The Evs are to boost its attack and speed stat at the limit

The main (and only) weakness of this one is fighting. When I was thinking about a pokemon to kill fighting types, I went straight away to Talonflame, the gale wings digim...attacker.

Talonflame_XY.png

Talonflame (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Roost
One of the most powerfull fast killers of the game in my opinion. I prefer the life orb set than the Choice Band cause when I cannot switch I got locked in one attack. Roost is used to give Talonflame the recovery that it needs. EVs given are to maximize it's attack and speed. Nature adamant is prefereable over Jolly cause Talonflame doesn't have a great attack stat.
(BTW, I'm the only one who see this pokemon a great semblance with Birdramon from Digimon Adventure?XD)

Talonflame's strong weakness, rock, can be dealt with Rotom-W, who's typping is great to stop rock types, earth and opponent's Talonflame too.

Rotom_lavado_XY.png

Rotom-Wash @ Lum Berry
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: No
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Rest
- Will-O-Wisp

The defensive set is what I want to deal with Talonflame. With Lum Berry and Rest Rotom has the recovery it needs. WoW to stop strong offensive pokemon as Garchomp, and the rest to deal with flying, rock, fire, earth and water type pokemon.

Thinking about another pokemon I like and can be a great help to my team I came with Aegislash
Aegislash_escudo_XY.png

Aegislash (M) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
Shiny: No
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Shadow Ball
- Sacred Sword
- King's Shield
- Flash Cannon
seeing that I have 2 attackers, I wanted to go with the special set with Aegislash (although this is a mixed one. Great that Aegislash is so versatile). I wanted be so slow that it can attack the last, so the nature and the 0 IV speed was perfect for me.
At first I was going to give it leftovers, but someone suggested me to use Weakness Policy to expoilt more its natural power. With it I could defeat an entire team with only it as the remaining pokemon.

Then I thought about using something to support my team. Someone (again) suggested me to use Amoongus, as a support with Rage Powder to give pokemon like Kangaskhan a bit more of logevity
Amoonguss_XY.png

Amoonguss (F) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Regenerator
Shiny: No
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Protect
- Rage Powder
- Giga Drain
- Spore

And now comes the most difficult choice, the last pokemon. At first I thought to use another offensive pokemon as Haxorus, who has Mold Breaker (a great ability to deal with opposing Rotoms, but it proves to be a bit innefective. Then I thought about another annoyer, our favourite imp Sableye as annoyer.
Sableye_XY.png

Sableye (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Shiny: No
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Impish Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Taunt
- Foul Play

As I said, I'm a noob in competitive playing. In a row of 10 battles, I only won 2. I don't know how to improve my team or what to add or remove. Any suggestions?

Thanks ^^

I love using Life Orb Talonflame, but I don't think your set brings out it's full potential

Talonflame @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 68 HP / 252 Atk / 12 SpA / 4 SpD / 172 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Brave Bird
- Overheat
- Taunt / Tailwind
- Quick Guard / Protect

This is a Talonflame set I've been using for a while now, to great effect. Overheat is, in my opinion, superior to Flare Blitz on Life Orb sets. It allows you to avoid Intimidate, which is important in KOing Mega Mawile, a huge threat to Mega Kangaskhan, and avoid a lot of recoil as well as Ferrothorns Iron Barbs + Rocky Helmet. Taunt can shut down annoying supporters and Tailwind speeds up your team, it's personal preference for what you use. Quick Guard can stop priority, which is extremely helpful, but Protect can help make some clutch plays, again it's personal preference. The EV spread allows you to KO 252/4 Mega Mawile with Overheat 100% of the time and outspeed Mega Kangaskhan so that you Quick Guard before it can Fake Out. An alternative spread that I haven't used as much: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 12 SpA / 4 SpD / 132 Spe with a Hasty Nature could be used as well. It allows Talonflame to outspeed 252 Spe Adamant Nature Talonflame so that it Brave Birds first and also has a 50 something percent chance to survive standard 76 Special Attack Rotom-Wash's Thunderbolt.

Good luck at your tournament!

Lol, some how I ended up posting this on a another team not even using Talonflame xD

Hey man pretty cool looking team you have here, I think your main issue right now is using EV spreads that are good in the VGC metagame. A lot of your spreads look like they've been ripped straight off of the Smogon Strategy Dex which is generally fine but you're using spreads designed for use in Smogon Singles and are therefore not effective in level 50, flat Doubles VGC14.
I'll give you an example, Rotom-W runs 44 Speed EVs to outpace 0 Spe Landorus-T in Smogon OU. Landorus-T does not exist in VGC14. A Defensive spread is also preferred to check Mega Pinsir and Banded Talonflame. In VGC14, Mega Pinsir is practically non-existant and Talonflame, while still common, nowadays tend to prefer more support oriented sets with Tailwind and Will o Wisp, or even a mixed set as the rater above me suggested. The days of Banded or even Max Atk Talonflame in VGC has been waning. So why use that spread?
Instead, a more specially defensive spread is preferred in VGC to tank Solarbeam from Zard Y and take Thunderbolts better from Rotom-H.

Heres a more optimal set:

RotomW@Sitrus Berry
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Def / 76 SAtk / 132 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect

Volt Switch is also an inferior option to Thunderbolt in VGC simply because with a spread like this Thunderbolt gets you clutch OHKOs on 4 HP Talonflame without resorting to Hydro Miss. It also does much more damage to bulky threats like Zard Y and Azumarill.

Speaking of Zard-Y, you still bear a pretty massive weakness to it even with the new Rotom-W set, and especially with such a frail Talonflame set.
I'm honestly not seeing much use for Sableye on this team, I'd honestly just scrap it for Tyranitar, it gives you a form of weather control and can check Rotom-H, Charizard-Y, and can potentially act as a lure for Garchomp, Ferrothorn and other annoying Pokemon hit by it's surprisingly massive special coverage. You're not particularly weak to Mawile and Azu anyway considering you pack both Rotom-W and Amoonguss (who is better off using Black Sludge and giving Sitrus Berry to Rotom btw).

Here are a couple sets for Tyranitar I can recommend for your team:
Tyranitar @ Life Orb
252 Sp.A / 252 Speed / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Rock Slide
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse/Fire Blast
- Protect

Allows it to still KO Talon, CharY, more 4x Rock weak mons with Rock Slide while also being able to hit Garchomp, Salamence, Hydreigon. Fire Blast or Dark Pulse depending on which Steel type you are afraid of. Protect just because Fighting types and how it can change momentum.

A more bulky, lure-ish variant:

Tyranitar @ Assault Vest
252 HP / 20 Def / 108 SpA / 4 SpD / 124 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Rock Slide
- Assurance
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast/Dark Pulse

Surives Jolly Garchomp Earthquake. 252 HP 4 SDef lets it survive Timid Mega Lucario's Aura Sphere 15/16 times. 108 Sp Attack Quiet allows it to always KO 4 HP Garchomp with Ice Beam. Speed was just to outspeed things like Mega Mawile even with the - Speed Nature.
Finally, you really do need Protect on just about all of your Pokemon, for example, Protect > U-turn on Talonflame and even Protect > Fake Out on Kangaskhan has become more popular this late in the format where everyone just double Protects against Khan expecting the Fake Out. Therefore being able to Protect that slot is much more useful to prevent mindless double targeting.

I've also addressed only the most problematic EV spreads on your team, do be aware that there are still more efficient spreads for all the other Pokemon I did not mention in this brief rate that you should look into on your own time.
That's all I have for you.

You could also use Scarf Tar to get suprise KO's on Garchomp, Zard-Y, Talonflame, etc.

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
Level: 50
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 180 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rock Slide
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam

The set allows Ttar to outspeed Garchomp and KO with Ice Beam, and can still KO Talonflame and Zard-Y with Rock Slide despite the - nature and the spread reduction.

I love using Life Orb Talonflame, but I don't think your set brings out it's full potential

Ability: Gale Wings

Thank you to both you. As I said, I'm a noob and a EV spread like this would never come at my mind. The mentorship program is still on?I tried to contact to one of the mentors to learn more about this, but I didn't got any response yet. How I can learn about this?
Tyranitar is a good option for me. At first I was "afraid" of it's Sand Stream ability and the residual damage that can deal to my own team, so I decided not to run it, but if you think it can be a good option for my team, why not to test it?
About Talon I'll try the sets Spits recomended.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks for all ^^
