1st Smogon OU Team

Hey guys 1st team iv posted on here. sorry about no pics in advance... not too sure how to get them up. Anyways the base of the team is around annoying the foe within the sandstorm. I find usually its my fav weather. Anyways let me know what you guys think. Feel free to be as critical as need be.

Tyrant In the Storm

Lead: Uxie Impish
148 hp, 192 def, 112 sp def, 56 speed
Item: Sitrus berry
1: stealth rock
2: thunder wave
3: U-turn
4: recycle

Uxie's main goal is to set up stealth rock and then get out. If possible thunderwave a set up lead (ex coyster with shell smash) Runs just enough speed to keep up with most leads/ and late game sweepers. Recycle allows me to keep bringing back my sitrus berry which is very helpful. And as stated Uxie likes to re appear if I see a potential foe that could cripple me due to speed advantage.

2: Houndoom Modest
252, sp attack, 252 speed
Item: Choice scarf
Flash fire
1: Flame thrower
2: dark pulse
3: Shadow ball
4: Solar beam

Houndoom is one of my all time fav pokes no matter what. People usually like heatran in the OU, and even with better stats/ move pool, Iv always found houndoom works better for me. I personally think its because people under rate this litte monster. Houndoom works well because it covers a large fire weakness in my team. He also can deal with annoying psychic pokemon without a great fear. His main counter, which gives my whole team trouble is Alakazam. I can get by his psychic but after that im faced with the fear of a focus blast to the face. Tyrantiar and houndoom dont really care much for that. (so if u guys can help with that? along with still being able to deal with fire weakness and handle psychics.. Main prob for me here..)

Ferrothorn Adamant
252 hp, 88 attack, 168 def
iron barbs
Rocky helmet
1: Rest
2: power whip
3: thunder wave
4: gyro ball

Ferro's main job is to come in again and again against physical attacker. Most run leech seed trying to gain more life back. But my goal is a quick in and out. He also serves well in a personal matter. (Iv got a buddy who runs a really well done azmural Who spamms aqua jet at amazing power. So great counter for him) Also can deal with many ice pokemon via gyro ball. Thunderwave is used much like uxie. Rest over leech seed because like i said quick in and out. Much longer lasting. Also his ev spread allows him just enough attack to 1hko politoad and still make the physical wall i was looking for.

Tyrantiar adamant
252 hp, 252 sp def, 4 attack
Sandstream
Lum Berry
1: payback
2: rest
3: earthquake
4: stone edge

Speaks for himself, used as a great counter due to his lack of speed. With the mix of stealth rock, sand, and spike from scar my teams set to go. Not really much to say about this guy. People know how he gets his job done.

Skarmory Impish
216 hp, 192 def, 100 speed
Studry
Leftovers
1: counter
2: roost
3: spikes
4: whirlwind

Skar is my main wall as well as a great counter. Its not often seen a skar running counter.. but Iv seen it work wonders. Everything else goes without say. Basic skar set up. I feel with his low offense brave bird doesnt work out too well. I find counter is the best option

Gengar Timid
216 sp attack, 104 sp def, 188 speed
Black sludge
Levitate
1: psychic
2: sludge bomb
3: Thunder bolt
4: Des bond.

Serves as a great counter for fighting based pokemon or attacks. Physically cant take a hit but with his ev spread it allows him to finish off a bulcky sp defender and have enough speed to des bond the next foe. I did notice that Mismagius can out speed and kill me so that is a problem.

Anyways Thats the team in the nut shell. Hoping for Feedback :)

a Nasty Plot Lucario could take out atleast half of your team... provided its packing Aura Sphere, Shadow Ball, and Dark Pulse. Luckily Lucarios arent as popular as they were in 4th gen. Butttt.... i still see some minor improvements that could be madee...

Rest without Hydration / Early Bird (what pokemon even HAS that in OU?), or without Sleep Talk is almost useless. So, i'd get rid of it on both Tyranitar and Ferrothorn.
I recommend a SubSeed set for Ferry....

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Careful (+Sp. Def., -Sp. Attk)
252 HP, 136 Def, 120 Sp. Def
0 Spd IVs
~Substitute / Thunder Wave, Gyro Ball / Payback, Leech Seed, Power Whip

Pretty much standard... Gyro Ball or Payback, take your pick, STAB Gyro Ball with 0 IVs hits pretty hard, so i'd definately suggest that.

Do you play under Item Clause? if not, then i'd definately bring in Lefties on Uxie. Although, Skarmory basically does Uxie's job, only a little better. Ferrothorn can use its Thunder Wave, Skarm could replace Counter with Stealth Rock, and you'd have a free slot. I'd suggest putting in Landorus in its place. Not only does it benefit from Sand Stream, but its a solid counter to Lucario, which is the only large threat i immediately notice.

Landorus @ Life Orb / Leftovers
Jolly (+Spd, -Sp. Attk)
252 Attack, 252 Spd, 4 HP
~Earthquake, Stone Edge, Substitute, Swords Dance

Packs EdgeQuake. 'Nuff said. Swords Dance once and you're good for some sweeping. Substitute lets you get off atleast one dance before it breaks, unless its a S.E. hit.

I'd also put a Life Orb on Gengar.... Black Sludge really wont save it from a hit.

With a lack of physical moves, I'd really suggest replacing Houndoom with Excadrill, if you're going for a Sandstorm team. However, i see that it can take out some major Sun team pokemon, so... take your pick. Excadrill is pretty tempting, though...

Overall, its a pretty solid team. a bit confused on the items and Rest without proper reliable status healing, but, its still good! Hope I helped a bit!

Hey thanks for the quick reply! :)

I figured people would attack the ferrothron. So ill try and explain the tatic behind using it this way. The point is i want it to get hit. So subbing only hinders that options. Iron barbs plus rocky helmet is really a nasty combo. And with his already high defense it takes two (if lucky) to three hits to drop. unless its like flare blits or something. But even then iv taken a full flare blits and survived. Rest plays a key role because i can heal up quick allowing myself to keep getting hit while the foe is still taking damage. It sounds like a weird tatic. But throw it up on PO and give it a test for a few games. you might be shocked :)

I do play by item clause. so thats why sitrus berry is on uxie.

Lum berry wakes t-tar right back up after rest allowing him to go right back into attacking. One time use ik... but because of item clause i cant throw on left overs again.

Skar i thought about and took in 100% of what your brought up... Lucario and running a stealth rock type. But Counter works like no other counter move. With the combo of sturdy and counter... Even if a lucario where to come in nasty plot aura sphere. (which someone actually tried on me today) I still will survive with one hp and counter DOUBLE the foes damage done to me. Lucario is no more. And with the speed ivs invested i have the solid chance to heal back up and make use of skar again.

Ill take a look at landerous as your brought up. My only thing im iffy about is he is 4x weak to ice... and im trying to avoid ice weakness. (more so because one of my buddies i play loves ice pokemon)

Anyways im not sure if this broke it down a little better for people... This t-tar is actually smogon made.. and i loved it enough i tried it out and it works wonders. Still havent covered my pyschic/ fighting type weakness though... So might need help with that.

But ill play around with what you brought up and see what it can do!

Bolded some of your misconceptions. Maybe you didn't know, but since 4th Gen all types can be either Special or Physical (which use Sp Atk and Sp Def for damage calcs and Atk and Def for damage calcs, respectively). Aura Sphere is a Special attack. Counter works only with Physical attacks. So, in other words, you'd waste a pokemon, a decisive move AND look like a noob. You look like one right now. Make sure you now HOW the game WORKS before you play it. Take this advice. Please.

You should try to lower how many of your Pokemon are weak to Fighting. You want to have more Pokemon to switch out to if you're up against a Fighting-type or anything that makes common use of a Fighting-type move.

And why do you have Counter on a physical wall like Skarmory? Counter only works with damage taken from physical attacks. I recommend this set instead:

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp.Def, 4 Def
Nature: Impish
-Stealth Rock
-Roost
-Brave Bird
-Roar

Brave Bird is the best physical attacking move you can carry on a Skarmory, even though it has recoil. Assuming your opponent is using a physical attacker, you should be able to take some hits before roosting up, so that recoil shouldn't bug you too much. If you really don't want the recoil, you can replace Brave Bird with Drill Peck. Hope this helps.

Uxie: With team preview, designated leads are no longer viable. With Tyranitar, this team could definately use a Sand Abuser like Excadrill, Landorus, or Terrakion (you can find their sets in the Smogon OU Analyses). If you want to take a more defensive route, try Rotom-W @ Leftovers, Modest, Levitate, 112 HP/ 252 SpA/ 144 Spe, Hydro Pump/ Volt Switch/ Will-o-Wisp/ Pain Split. Definately replace Uxie outright.

Houndoom: I have no idea why it has Solarbeam. As this move is completely useless outside of the sun, it not only allows the opponent to easily predict and act accordingly, but also turns Houndoom into set up bait, use Hidden Power Grass instead. I would probably replace it outright with an Air Balloon Heatran. Alakazam is never used and Air Balloon Heatran helps you take on sun teams.

Ferrothorn: First of all, Rocky Helmet is very gimmicky since most people fire strong special attacks at Ferro anyways. Replace it with Leftovers/ Shed Shell. Rest turns Ferro into set up bait, replace it with Stealth Rock (since Uxie is gone). Thunder Wave and Gyro Ball counteract each other, replace either with Leech Seed or Protect.

Tyranitar: Rest Tyranitar is kind of awkward. If you opt to run a sweeper over Uxie. Try Tyranitar @ Leftovers, Sassy, Sand Stream, 252 Hp/ 180 SpA/ 76 SpD, Crunch/ Pursuit/ Fire Blast/ Ice Beam to bring down walls that impede their sweep such as Gliscor and Skarmory. If not, try a Choice Scart Ttar, Jolly, Sand Stream, 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 Hp to help deal with threats such as Thundurus and Tornadus.

Gengar: Gengar definately needs Shadow Ball, none of its other attacks provide as much of a punch. Sludge Bomb and Psychic have no competitive value whatsoever on Gengar. Try Gengar @ Life Orb, Timid, Levitate, 252 SpA/ 252 Spe/ 4 Hp, Substitute/ Pain Split/ Shadow Ball/ Focus Blast. Essentially Substitute to ease prediction and Shadow Ball/ Focus Blast for perfect coverage. Pain Split to rip a chunk out of Pokemon such as Blissey, and abuse the self inflicted Substitue and Life Orb damage.

Well i agree with integral1993 that sub-split gengar is a much better choice, however you could go with a more offencive set,

Gengar @ life orb
levitate
Evs: 4 hp / 252 s.atk / 252 spd
timid
- shadow ball
- focus blast
- thunder bolt
- substitude/destiny bond

But the team is quite cool i think...
