Other Metagames [1v1] Get Smart (#2 Peak)

Intro: The element of surprise
This team relied on common 1v1 threats, with less common sets used to lure in opponents. I consistently fool around with it on the ladder, and generally stay around the top 5, with a peak of #1. It is most effective against high ladder/competent players, because it is designed to take on the most common threats the meta has to offer. There are always lesser used mons that will beat any 1v1 team, so don't be surprised if there are plenty of lesser used things that can win, or random sets that can win 50/50s.

Teambuilding

deoxys-defense.gif
I started off with Deoxys-Defense because, well, its broken in this meta. I originally had the typical defensive set, but it really wasn't reliably beating what i wanted it to. So, I had the idea of taking the Deoxys-Speed pp stall set, and applying it to Deoxys-Defense. The result was me playing around with which 4 moves are ideal, and eventually ending up with a set that beats a ridiculous amount of the meta due to its surprise factor. Ban Deoxys

With me trying to build a gimmicky team, the clearest problem is Whimsicott. I played around with a few different answers to it, but my favorite is hyper voice Sylveon, as it also beats Mega-Sableye and Greninja. The set is not the common specs one, it relies on custap berry to beat even more mons, such as some Char X and Gyarados sets, and Meloetta.

Rhyperior is amazing in this meta, especially specially defensive. This was originally added as a check to both Charizards, but I realized it ended up being insanely good at beating anything that isn't setting up. It lures in Charizard-Y solarbeams, and lives it to return KO with 2 different options.

In Depth

Deoxys-Defense @ Sitrus Berry | Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe | Timid Nature | IVs: 0 Atk
Protect | Cosmic Power | Recover | Taunt

Man, this thing beats pretty much everything unless it gets a crit. Almost all Charizard sets, mega Metagross, Chansey, Kyurem, Aggron, Altaria, Heatran, I can go on. All it does is keep spamming cosmic power, protect, and recover until opponents run out of PP thanks to pressure. Taunt prevents set up and status, and further limits PP. It is max speed, yes, it is max speed. This means it can taunt and beat Gyarados, unless it is running crunch. It also outspeeds Dragonite, and unique Charizard sets. Outspeeds other stall teams, and much more, base 90 is great. With protect it can also scout choice tricks from things like Meloetta, and taunt it away. You will generally be able to just click this and win, there are very few things that beat it.

Sylveon @ Custap Berry | Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD | Modest Nature
Hyper Beam | Hyper Voice | Psyshock | Endure

Ahh, F*** you, Whimsicott and Sableye. Sylveon is really here to beat both of them, but it ends up beating a lot more thanks to custap berry. Most opponents expect a specs Sylveon, so you can use that to your advantage. Using hyper voice, surviving a hit, and getting your priority next turn to hyper beam will beat most threats. It also beats the random physical Gunk Shot Greninja, however you have to endure the first turn. The rest is pretty straight forward, if you can ohko, click hyper beam. If you 2kho, click hyper voice and endure. Must beware of protect users on the custap turn.

Rhyperior @ Assault Vest | Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD | Sassy Nature | IVs: 0 Spe
Earthquake | Rock Blast | Counter | Metal Burst

Good ole max special defense Rhyperior. This lures in things that think they auto win, such as Genesect, and Charizard Y. Metal Burst easily beats Genesect, and Rhyperior will live solarbeam to revenge kill Char-Y. However, rock blast is more reliable in case of substitute. This will also beat all Char-X sets, by chance. Bulkier sets make it a 50/50 of clicking counter or earthquake, so, buena suerte. Its natural physical bulk lets it live things like iron head rom Mgross and MMawile, and revenge with counter. Rhyperior beats most of the meta, but it can often come down to 50/50s, so use Deo-D if you can.

Threatlist
  • Crunch Gyarados. I don't understand why anyone would run it in this meta, because it literally only hits deo, but people do, and it beats this.
  • Deoxys. Facing my own Deoxys just causes a bunch of speedties, and Deo-S auto wins. (ban imo)
  • Slowbro. Special defensive sets are a problem, and if people run oblivious and don't mega, it challenges Deo-D with rest sets.
  • SD Mawile. Results in 50/50s with both Deo-D and Rhyp.
  • There are always unique sets that will CT any team, that's just how 1v1 goes.
Conclusion
Don't be turned off by the threatlist. If anyone tells you they have a 1v1 team that beats all common threats, they are full of it and you can find something that auto wins in 2 minutes. This team beats the vast majority of the meta, with Deo-D auto-winning against most teams. The other two pokemon compliment it excellently, providing you with plenty of victories. Have fun trolling!

I would use banded rhypherior as your team isn't very offensive from the start and it needs something to do good damage to special walls. I have tried both sets and found this set to be far more useful. Like seriously, this thing can take hits and it can do far more then it really should be doing. Besides, you already have a defensive pokemon that can preform it's job. (Deoxys-D)

Thanks for the rate! However, If you run this, specs genesect auto beats this team. This team isn't really designed to be offensive, and doesn't need a threat itself. There are however, different options that beat different things, but whenever you change something, you open up new holes that you have to consider!

Specs genesect exists?

Specs genesect exists?

Unfortunately and for some reason it does, but scarf far outclasses it and is better in basaically every way as specs genesect only really beats a few things that scarf doesn't.

I would suggest changing sylveon to this set:

Sylveon @ Custap Berry
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 248 HP / 68 Def / 192 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Endure
- Hyper Beam
- Hyper Voice
- Fake Tears

Evs let it live a jolly flare blitz from zard X, plus it beats everything your sylveon now beats, and more due to fake tears, as fake tears+hyper beam beats chansey and basaically any stall mon, as long as it doesn't have 100 ish spdef and resist, eg Aggron or something.
