Tournament 1v1 OGPL III - Team Dump

All the teams that I used (and a few that I didn't) https://pokepast.es/2b1caef3d506c90c

Yes my team names are weird, they're usually just the first random thing I think of. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Some Highlights:
Machamp @ Leftovers
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake
- Encore
- Scary Face

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
IVs: 14 HP / 28 Atk
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Haze

Raikou @ Miracle Berry
IVs: 14 HP / 24 Atk / 26 Def
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Reflect
- Rest

Wow my top 3 mons on a team wild. While the mons on this team might not be revolutionary, this is where I realized how nice Hidden Power Flying Raikou can be for Heracross reliability (until people start clicking Counter turn 1), and also I made this cool Vaporeon set. The idea is similar to that one ADV set, using Vaporeons great bulk and special attack to hit things hard with coverage, notably doing well into opposing waters like Starmie with Hidden Power Electric, and having both Surf and Ice Beam is very nice. Of course you give up Acid Armor and Growth, which is a lot, but this set can be solid on certain teams in my opinion. The last move I had here was Haze, just because I knew the opponent's team was a fan of Quagsire and I needed a way to beat it, but I've found that Rest is probably just the best 4th move for this set.
Magmar @ Scope Lens
IVs: 26 Def
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Cross Chop
- Screech

Donphan @ Leftovers
- Earthquake
- Curse
- Rest
- Protect

Raikou @ Miracle Berry
IVs: 6 HP / 28 Atk / 28 Def
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Reflect
- Rest

This is when I realized how good Donphan really is. Unlike Marowak, you have access to Leftovers and significantly better bulk, allowing Donphan to reliably take on most physical attackers. With Protect + Leftovers, you even beat Ice Beam / Surf Tyranitar which is really nice. You do give up some matchups over Marowak, notably Exeggutor (Marowak OHKOes with HP Bug), non Never-Melt Ice Blissey, and without the space for Rock coverage you can lose to some Flying-types, but I used Donphan a good amount in this tournament, and this is definitely a hot take but I think its slightly better than Marowak. Also Magmar was a super nice third on this team, and Hidden Power Grass Raikou is on this team for similar reasons to Haze Vaporeon on the team above.
Meganium @ Miracle Seed
IVs: 6 HP / 28 Atk / 28 Def
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Earthquake
- Leech Seed
- Swords Dance

Typhlosion @ Mint Berry
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Sunny Day
- Rest

Gatr (Articuno) @ Leftovers
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Reflect
- Rest

While there isn't anything revolutionary here, I just really like this team. Articuno can run Reflect to help deal with physical attackers like Machamp and Normals since Meganium handles Marowak for it, and Typhlosion is nice here to 2-1 Raikou and to beat the things you need your fire to beat while helping against opposing Fire-types.
Marowak @ Thick Club
IVs: 26 Atk / 26 Def
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Hidden Power [Bug]
- Swords Dance

Miltank (F) @ Leftovers
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Growl
- Milk Drink

Raikou @ Leftovers
- Thunderbolt
- Crunch
- Psych Up
- Rest

While I never really got to test this Miltank set out fully, Growl + Milk Drink + good speed and physical bulk seemed really solid to deal with a lot of physical attackers. Toxic + Seismic Toss is to help with Rest Pokemon, and Seismic Toss in particular is great at handling Curse Pokemon, since Growl cancels out their attack boosts but not their defense boosts.
Machamp @ Leftovers
IVs: 14 HP / 24 Atk / 26 Def
- Cross Chop
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Encore
- Scary Face

Espeon @ Leftovers
IVs: 14 HP / 28 Atk
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Sunny Day
- Growth

Piloswine @ Soft Sand
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Rock Slide
- Icy Wind

Two really cool Pokemon here, I want to talk about Espeon first since it popped off in the series I brought it to. Its very similar to Mime, but with Hidden Power + Growth it tends to do better into a lot of special attackers. I really like Sunny Day on it since it allows it to beat Vaporeon (you don't need a super effective Hidden Power for that), and while I usually prefer Hidden Power Grass so I can beat Starmie and Marowak in one slot (you need Miracle Seed for Marowak), I ran Hidden Power Electric to handle Starmie and Gyarados, since Piloswine already handles Marowak. Piloswine is really neat, while the Ice-typing is not great defensively, you are a Ground-type that beats Marowak and also opposing Ice-types, which can be very handy. Soft Sand I believe was for opposing Espeon, and Icy Wind + Rock Slide + Soft Sand Earthquake can do well into Mr. Mime.
Xatu @ Leftovers
IVs: 26 Def
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Solar Beam
- Sunny Day

Scizor @ Mint Berry
IVs: 26 Atk / 26 Def
- Hidden Power [Bug]
- Swords Dance
- Light Screen
- Rest

Suicune @ Leftovers
IVs: 14 HP / 28 Atk
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Mirror Coat

Three really cool mons here. Xatu is the only Psychic with a great matchup into Starmie, and Sunny Day Solar Beam also gives it the Vaporeon matchup. It is a surprisingly customizable mon, one of my favorite mons in the whole tier. Suicune is also pretty nice here, I chose to run this over Vaporeon here since I expected Thunderbolt Scope Lens Starmie, and I was hoping to catch them off guard with Hidden Power Electric into Mirror Coat to KO them. Mirror Coating turn 1 can be risky but turn 2 can be fairly reliable. Now Scizor was a mon I didn't really like before this tournament, but Swords Dance + Light Screen + Mint Berry beating Raikou is really cool. Hidden Power Bug doing well into Grass and Psychic-types is really nice, and with its typing you can also do well into Normals.
Piloswine @ Soft Sand
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Rock Slide
- Icy Wind

Skarmory @ Sharp Beak
- Drill Peck
- Leer
- Curse
- Rest

Smeargle @ Miracle Berry
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Def / 8 SpA / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
- Seismic Toss
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Encore

First, Piloswine was a third here, it was very nice to squeeze in here. This is also my preferred Skarmory set, as it does well into Fire Blast Machamp and Marowak. So Smeargle, I ran this wild set with 8 Special Defense Stat Experience (Spatk and Spdef have to be the same if you are wondering), so that against Starmie, even if they use Thunderbolt or Ice Beam, they drop to Mirror Coat. I'll be honest, I don't remember what the lowered physical defense is for.
Jynx (F) @ Leftovers
IVs: 14 HP / 28 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Blizzard
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
- Surf
- Growth
- Acid Armor
- Rest

Meganium @ Miracle Seed
IVs: 6 HP / 28 Atk / 28 Def
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Leech Seed

Big fan of this Jynx set, gives you good matchups into Psychics, Grounds, Machamp, Grasses, Flyings, and some other misc stuff. Not much else to say this team felt very solid.
Machamp @ Leftovers
IVs: 14 HP / 24 Atk / 26 Def
- Cross Chop
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Encore
- Scary Face

Starmie @ Scope Lens
- Surf
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Light Screen

Raikou @ Leftovers
- Thunderbolt
- Crunch
- Psych Up
- Rest

A classic team with a bit of a twist; Light Screen Starmie matches up very well into Grass-types. You can also run Never-Melt Ice + Blizzard, but its less reliable from my experience, Light Screen can be very useful in other matchups, and you can use the item slot for whatever you want.
Muk @ Mint Berry
- Sludge Bomb
- Screech
- Acid Armor
- Rest

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
- Surf
- Growth
- Acid Armor
- Rest

Raikou @ Miracle Berry
- Thunderbolt
- Crunch
- Reflect
- Rest

I brought this team to US v World but with Sleep Talk and Leftovers over Acid Armor and Mint Berry on Muk, wish I ran that instead but this team still is very solid. Muk + Water (Vaporeon is my personal favorite here) just covers so much of the metagame.
Muk @ Leftovers
- Sludge Bomb
- Screech
- Acid Armor
- Rest

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
- Surf
- Growth
- Acid Armor
- Rest

Tyranitar @ Mint Berry
- Rock Slide
- Crunch
- Sunny Day
- Rest

This team isn't good and I didn't bring it, but theoretically this Tyranitar beats Starmie and that is funny to me
Vaporeon @ Leftovers
- Surf
- Growth
- Acid Armor
- Rest

Aerodactyl @ Soft Sand
- Earthquake
- Sky Attack
- Ancient Power
- Fire Blast

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
- Thunderbolt
- Psych Up
- Light Screen
- Rest

So this Blissey set took me a long time to land on. With Light Screen and Rest, you can PP Stall a lot of special attackers. Psych Up both allows you to beat the Growth Eeveelutions with Thunderbolt, and it stops Psychic or Crunch Special Defense drops. If you don't care about the Gyarados matchup, you can also run Hidden Power Electric on Blissey with 7 or less Speed DVs, which lowers its base power to 65. This makes it so Leftovers Raikou cannot rest outside of Psyching Up its own Special Defense Drop, or a crit. You might need to lower the power more against Hidden Power Raikou, I didn't look into it. I lowered the base power instead of the Stat EXP / EVs since lowering Special Attack Stat EXP also lowers the Special Defense one. This Aerodactyl can also catch non Reflect + Mint/Miracle Rest Raikous off guard, but I mainly just used it here because it was a good third.
Machamp @ Leftovers
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake
- Scary Face
- Encore

Gengar @ Twisted Spoon
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Confuse Ray

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
- Return
- Ice Beam
- Curse
- Recover

First of P2 is cool, but I want to talk about this Gengar. Shadow Ball is nice for Mr. Mime, but Confuse Ray is the real interesting thing here. TL:DR, it gives you a really solid matchup into Earthquake Heracross. I believe the GSC 1v1 Council will be voting to ban Confuse Ray soon, and I will be voting Ban on it since it is very dumb, but this was a cool use case for it.
