[SET]
Hatterene @ Leftovers
Name: Calm Mind (Fairy)
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Draining Kiss
- Mystical Fire / Nuzzle
[SET COMMENTS]
Hatterene serves a pivotal role on Fairy teams with its Psychic typing, which helps to threaten out Poison-types such as Toxapex and Amoonguss. Magic Bounce provides Fairy with its main source of entry hazard control, preventing threats such as Blissey and Skarmory from stacking hazards. Calm Mind enables Hatterene to stand off against threats such as Volcarona and Greninja. Psyshock threatens special walls and Calm Mind sweepers such as Blissey, Clodsire, and Primarina. Draining Kiss provides a reliable form of recovery along with enabling Hatterene to handle Dark-types like Hisuian Samurott. Finally, Mystical Fire gives Hatterene an option to torch Steel-types such as Corviknight and Iron Treads. Alternatively, Nuzzle acts a support option to slow down problematic targets such as Meowscarada, the Ogerpon formes, and Tornadus-T. The EV spread maximizes Hatterene's physical bulk while outspeeding Toxapex, enabling it to use Psyshock before Toxapex has a chance to use Haze or Recover.
Klefki serves as an incredible teammate for Hatterene, as its secondary Steel typing enables it to check Poison- and Steel-types that handle Hatterene such as Sneasler and Scizor. It also provides dual screens support to enable Hatterene to have an easier time setting up against otherwise overwhelming attackers like the Landorus formes and Greninja. Similarly, Tinkaton can serve as a solid partner with its Steel neutrality and Poison immunity and can more reliably check threats like Alolan Muk, Glimmora, and Corviknight; it is also able to use Thunder Wave to let Hatterene comfortably run Mystical Fire. Iron Valiant's Close Combat can easily remove problematic Steel-types like Hisuian Goodra and Heatran, while coverage options such as Knock Off and Ice Punch can check threats such as Gholdengo and Gliscor, respectively. Flutter Mane easily blasts through faster threats attempting to handle Hatterene such as non-Choice Scarf Urshifu-R, Pecharunt, and Articuno. Azumarill can easily break through threats capable of handling Hatterene such as Hisuian Goodra, Flutter Mane, and Ceruledge while appreciating its use of Nuzzle to slow down would-be checks like Sinistcha and Ogerpon-W. Primarina is a secondary Calm Mind attacker capable of taking on the Steel- and Fire-types that threaten Hatterene like Archaludon, Bisharp, and Cinderace.
